Hi everyone,

I was hoping to buy the ds lite from a friend of mine. The only downside: the DS Lite is a flashy red colour.
So now my question to you is:

  • Is it possible to change the look of the DS LITE? (as cheap as possible) WITHOUT opening the ds itself.
  • So yes, where do I buy it? (Belgium, Europe)

I've heard about skins, i've heard about a friend of mine spraycanning on his GBA SP

Thanks in advance!

Get a can of spray paint and give about 3 coats of the color you want and two clear coats. Just make sure you tape off everything you don't want painted with painter's tape. Cover the inside edge of the top lid so the tape hangs out (so you don't accidently spray between the top and bottom lid) and cover up the hinge so you don't spray that either

Eyyyy look, migles had the same idea! vv

you can just use a can of spray on it.. but i recommend you to opening it if you want to make a good job (also to protect interior..)

i had to open mine to repair it. its pretty easy if you have the tri wing screwdrivers, its really easy to assembly it back.
the only problem is placing the R and L buttons, you have to put the coils right, or you will feel the diference..
after opening mine the first time. i can say. if i ever get a small reason to open it, there is no issue to do it..

you probably can find on websites shells\cases for the console.. to replace it, but you have to open it (and its cheaper to just use paint on it..)

some sites sell stickers\decals, but i don't remember where i saw them. since the console is a bit old now, its harder to find.
but the quality of the decals, if they are poor you will preefer a ugly console than see the stickers coming out

Alright! Thank you both :D

I guess I'm gonna go with spraycanning then like you 2 said.
Do you guys know a good tutorial how to do so? I was thinking a white/red (or other colour, still thinking) digital camo style :)

I saw some pictures of disassembling the DS and it scared me a little, especially indeed with those LR buttons. Where can I but such a screwdriver? Cost?

Again thank you!

Most online video game console modding stores will have the screwdriver for sale. Normally, they are very cheap, maybe $1-$2.

as user above me said, screwdrivers are cheap online.. can find them for 1-3 dollars..

you can also buy them on a electronics store (that sell components to repair stuff) but its a bit hard to find and expensive (i got a set for 8€...)

like i said the L R buttons are the biggest assle, the rest is pretty straighfoward. you will have to be carefull with the screen connections, they can be damaged if you remove them the wrong way..

see the pictures set i showed to you, that guy painted a 3ds he just does the job outside, which is simple but inside "the clam" you have to deal with the sound\micro and button holes.. also the screen...

you can use paint for plastic and a brush too, but i don't know how would that work..

i only got the 3ds and a old nokia phone for filming.. i whish i could show you how to open it but there should be good quality youtube videos already.. and mine would be probably much worse..

the LR buttons coil has a trick.. if you don't know the right position of the coil, you probably will put them "loose"...
