Although people could get into the debate of "Why", that isn't relevant. People want to do it. That said, I'll add a blerb about how having a hardmod is recommended.

And for that I will remain forever confused, but to each his own. It gives guys like me job security.

This actually seems like an awesome idea! I sometimes forget to bring my cartridges when I take my N3DS out, so this can help me play some games on SysNAND just in case of times like this. I have a few questions, though:

1. I know a few people answered this question, but what exactly is considered a clean CIA? Where do you get this? Just to clarify, I'm not asking for links or websites on where to get them, but are CIAs from third party websites considered clean or are they the ones you make using Gateway?

2. Can I grab a CIA of a game that I bought in the eShop from a third party site? Speaking of which, what about the games I bought in the eShop? Is there a way to make a CIA out of the eShop games that I bought? This one is my main concern because I bought a bunch of games in the eShop, and I can't play any of my ambassador games in EmuNAND.

3. What happens if you try to install a CIA of a game you didn't buy in the eShop?

4. By doing this, are the saves linked between SysNAND and EmuNAND or are they separated just like they are in their respective folders? So does doing this link the SysNAND and EmuNAND back together or are they still separated?

Sorry for bombarding you guys with these questions. This seems like a pretty cool idea, so I'm hoping this is beneficial to my N3DS needs. :)

For me there is a difference between "clean" and "legit" CIA. In my opinion a clean CIA = eShop dump, legit CIA = dump of a bundled console with universal ticket (that means any console you import it on, region-wise and with a hack of course, will run it in sysnand like if you bought it).

ok, maybe that is ok for 'you', like you say.
but clean = legit.
i should have given the cias made from preinstalled content a better name, like 'universal clean' cia.

I define them the exact opposite.
A clean cia to me is a cia with a clean ticket. (able to install on any machine.)
a legit cia is one that was legimitately purchased via eshop.

Regardless, this is semantics.
If you have a clean/legit cia (Regardless of how it originated) this would work to install it on your sysnand. (how to create the cia is a completely different question.)

just because something is 'clean/legit', does not mean it will install on any console! :)
it can be clean/legit, but signed for my console, it won't work on yours. (this is why the preinstalled 'universal legit' cias are so nice)
every game from eshop needs to be purchased to create a cia

For scene reasons re: CIAs 'clean' means installable on any system AKA bundled games. Other 'clean' dumps aren't totally untouched unless they are system specific and won't work on any other console. Those titles will only work in CFW / GW.

Edit: Repeated some of cearp's info I see

i can't agree that clean means it will install, sorry.
you could have a clean cia for development 3ds consoles, it would not install on my normal 3ds. clean just means it is untouched, if you touch it it will be dirty.
if it happens to be clean and install on every 3ds console, then that is a bonus, = universal clean cia

i can make a clean cia from an eshop purchase i made that will not install for you, or even me! because we do not have enough things in the fw patched to allow it to install. :(

Yeah, I agree. I was just referring to how the scene labels things and how patches via CFW/GW are required for anything else. End result: anything beyond bundled titles won't work in sysNAND without patching.

Edit: I'm not trying to teach the master but clarify some things for laymen. :)

If I wanted to install a clean/legit cia on an unhacked secondary O3DS using my gateway, would I just load the exploit straight away and install to sysnand?

What about making an emunand and keeping it linked, then install the cia through emunand. Since it would use the same ID folder on the SD card, would that cia also run from sysnand, even if I later removed emunand from the SD card?

I'm also a noob but I'll try to answer, if you want to install a CIA(one one of the few that can be installed to sysnand) to your sysnand you only need to use gateway once eg. start the gateway epxloit, (assuming there is no emunand yet) choose "Boot Gateway Mode", install the CIA with DEVMenu and that's it.
About emuNAND installs, no it won't work in sysnand, It won't even show up in sysnand because it wasn't registered in sysnand.
Hope that helps(and is correct) :)

Actually, all installed title that are from the same region should show in sysNAND if the emuNAND is linked to it but give you a BSOD when you try to run them if not from a truly clean CIA.

Would I be correct in assuming none of this trickery is needed if you just get a second SD card?

ie. the simple process would be
put BBM on the 3ds sd card
put launcher.dat and blah.cia on the clean SD card
boot gateway
load BBM
install the CIA
take the SD card out and copy/paste the folders onto the original SD card

would that work?

slightly off topic but why? is this just a joke thats gone over my head lol
and back on topic
just to make sure i understand when you install a cia through bbmenu it installs shit to the sd card thats why if we dont want to swap sd cards for sysnand and emunand we would need to use this method of installing legit cia files?

That is the idea, making those legit games available from a coldboot.

Maybe we should start a poll about what to call bundled CIA's. There's been legit, clean, I'll add official, etc.
