They released a beta, if you have a 3ds with gateway or a save dongle + zelda OOT:3d or Cubic ninja you can use emunand up to 9.0, not 9.6
9.6 may take a while but im set for a while without needing to play certain games

i guess that one guy around page 9 was wrong about news on wednesday.
If you want update your emunand to 9.2 then you can use the smash bros retail card or the rom if you have an us console. For eu you can use mama cooking Bon appetit retail or rom. For JP i dont know but there must be also a game with 9.x update.

What I'd like to do is play all of them in the original Japanese GBA format, once there is a good emulator for GBA on the 3DS
If xenoblade has fw something like 9.5 will we be able to update our 9.0 emunand to 9.5 using the rom?
Yes, it would be possible. Just hold the "up-key" on the d-pad while entering the gw-mode (you don't need to enter gw menu first). After doing that you are able to update the emunand using a rom.
So is there any EU rom that has a higher firmware than 9.2 now? Or we just wait for the xenoblade rom? Also my console is New3dsxl on 9.0 E and I use CN to launch gateway.
So what I should do is use CN for the exploit and hold UP when I press boot gateway mode? and then select the rom from the multirom menu and launch it?
No, the highest FW an EU-Rom is coming with is Cooking Mama: Bon Appetit, it has FW 9.2. But there is no need to update to a higher FW atm, cause with both 9.2 and 9.5 you can't access the e-shop, so it doesn't matter if you have 9.2 or 9.5

I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

Just give it a try, but honestly if you have a 3DS you can play DS games without a card just off the internal SD card
