QW1028 (Black) - 9.0.0 (surprisingly!)

Gonna be borrowing one of these for cfw dev, hehe

I bought New Nintendo 3DS XL - Black

Version: QW4008
Region: US
Firmware: 9.0.0-20U
Seller: Walmart online
Purchase Date: 02/15/15 then picked up on 3/5/15 from Walmart store

QW4008 is already in list on first page. I'm worry I maybe get defect hardware. I don't have new game to test c-stick and two extra buttons. I'm not hurry to pick up, because due to winter storm hit my area about 3 times and got 6 inches of snow at my home.

If we get defect hardware and must return system back to store then refund to get money back!

Made an account to say that I just picked up a black (after just returning one with a dead pixel that I got on launch) new 3ds xl.

The new one was QW4022 and has 9.4.0.

Pissed because I got a Gateway and my old was was fine except for that issue.

Between dust being stuck under the screen, which can appear like a dead pixel, and actual dead pixels, I think you're unlikely to find a screen without one or two of them. I've even seen several hot pixels on this N3DS XL line. Yikes. Nintendo must have really dropped their QC levels to optimize profits.

It's best to look at the units holistically since so many different things can go wrong, like screen color temperature mismatches and whatnot.

Here's a funny story.

I bought my n3ds RED on day one (02/13) serial QW4028 - firmware 9.4

Today I was at best buy and decided to buy another Red one (told myself what if by some crazy luck I'd get a 9.0/9.2, didn't know about this thread not read about serial numbers at the time.

Low and behold serial QW1021 - firmware 9.0

I'm thinking maybe they shipped the latest batches received straight to the stores and once that was depleted they shipped the ones in the warehouses.

Funny thing is that they had plenty available.

I don't want to give anytime any false hope but you might get a better chance at getting an earlier firmware now than on launch.

Also not that it changes anything, but my hinge on the newer serial (QW4028) is much looser than on my newly purchased one today. The new one barely nudges left to right where as the first one I bought would move left or right by almost a millimeter.

PS: I'm located in Montreal, Canada so that's North American N3DS

Is there a thread like this for the 3DS XL? (Not N3DS XL)
I want to know the retail nand version of regular 3ds xl's.
Is it below 9.2 still?

A simple search could do the trick you know ;) But given the fact that the regular XL is no longer in production I would safely say that you're good to go!

Assuming it's brand new (hasn't been returned and put back on the shelf), it will be 9.0
Thank you. I looked at the first post, but I wasn't sure that serial number was safe, as it only listed it for the Majora's Mask 3DS, not for the metallic red one.
