I don't know if this is a bug or not.
Whenever I scaled x1, x2 or x3, even if I have borders, the whole image won't fit the whole screen like when I disable scaling.
I get a 4:3 image, but when I click the home menu, the paused image now stretches to fit 16:9.

Although that only happens when the emulator is paused, as soon as I go back in the game I get the boxed image again.

That was intentional - it tells the Wii U to go into 4:3 mode when using fixed pixel ratio. You can disable it by editing the meta.xml file and removing <ahb_access />.

EDIT: Version 2.3.2 is posted! Grab it from the main post.

Does 2.3.2 still have game cover image support?

I just read this from the ReadMe:

Colourised games still have some distortion in this version, but it is improved from the previous version, and better than VBA-M.
Some unpatched monochrome gameboy games have built-in palettes in this emulator and will appear in colour.

Just gotta say thanks. :D
Even though they still have the distortion, it is good to know that they have been improved somewhat. :D

I have a feeling it's something stupid and my own fault, but I can't seem to get any custom borders to work. No combination of "Hardware" and "Super Game Boy Border" give any results for GB, GBC, or GBA games. Named borders seem to be ignored, default borders are ignored; The only thing that seems to generate some type of border is setting a Super Game Boy Compatible GBC game to GBC hardware and "load from game" for the border, and even that just results in parts of the palette being applied to the border area rather than a border.

awesome work. this is really coming close to being a perfect gb/gbc/gba emuator. it is only missing multiplayer (1 player per wii(pc?) over wifi) and cheat support. has anyone tried to develop these features or are they just something to hope for?

Sorry for disturbing again, but could You tell me if there will be a plugin of this for Wiiflow? The actual plugin does not have all Your new features...

Hey libertyernie. I have a few questions for you.

1. Could you look into an issue where the audio becomes a little out of sync with the video? I've noticed it a few times when playing original game boy games.

2. I play using a CRT TV, so of course overscan is an issue. It isn't an issue when playing the games as I can change the screen size. But is there any way to move placement of the file select portion of the main menu? Maybe squish it down horizontally a little bit and move it and the screenshot pic a little closer to the center? (losing stuff to overscan irritates the hell out of me) If you can do that, would you be able to do that to cebolleto's version of Snes9x-gx and Fceu-gx?

Thank you! Your versions work much better than the previous ones.

I have one request: I would love an option to mark certain games as favourites in order to start them more quickly

The source is on his GitHub.
Thank You for sharing!

I had to read through the postings to get there. I am searching for an updated version of the vbagx plugin for wiiflow...
Does anybody know how to turn the source into a working plugin?
I am afraid I don't know enough about compiling...

You have a nice work right there, keep working!, I presume that the next version of this program will have fixed the little lag of 0.9 to 2 seconds that happens randomly everytime i try to play a GBA game, is not something too bad because the games works great, but it would be nice if you can fix that, because is not too bad in a strategy game like Fire Emblem or something like Megaman Battle Network, but is annoying in games like Sonic Advance and maybe Super Mario World or Bros 3 for that console, but anyways, keep updating, you have my support :D

Thank you so much for these enhancements, as now VBA GX is my preferred way of playing Game Boy games! I actually brought out my old CRT just to try out glorious 240p (lmao). CRT + 240p + new VBA GX = perfection! Not to mention that it's even better than playing on a Super Game Boy because the aspect ratio is actually correct, unlike SGB (Super Game Boy stretches the screen a little bit because of the way the SNES renders pixels), and the Super Game Boy is slightly overclocked, and obviously you get much more control options with VBA GX.

One glitch though, is that when playing on a CRT, the left side of the file select menu is cutoff and you can't see the first few characters of the file names. This only seems to happen when running on a CRT through composite cables, it does not happen when running on an HDTV in 4:3 mode through component or composite cables.

Would it be possible to fix up the palette editor? It's really glitchy and unstable, though I understand that you're not the one who wrote it.

Anyhow, for everyone who isn't already doing this, go to a pawn shop and buy a cheap CRT for $15, and then hook up your Wii to it. 240p mode along with 1x fixed pixel settings makes Game Boy games look incredible, not to mention slightly less input lag. Use your HDTV for Wii U/PS4/Xbone and all that HD stuff, but do yourself a favor and do all retro gaming on a CRT!

It's not a glitch, It was stretched a bit back so that it is approximately the same amount of wide as an actual Game Boy. The GUI wasn't title safe previously so now it's worse, but it depends on how much overscan the TV uses to notice a difference.

Shifting the title text box to the right by 32 pixels will get it back to how it was before.

Guys, how is your setting in the VBA Gx?
For me, the gba pokemon games are a little bit laggy and been little slowdowns after maybe 10 sec in game, and then it runs normal and so on.
Nothing that really get on my nerves, but if it is a chance to change that in the settings woud be good :)

Really appreciate the 240p Euro RGB. There is one thing that is annoying me though. Where you select roms the whole screen is shifted to the left a little too much so I can't see the first couple of characters of each rom name. It seems the picture is slightly too big for the screen (4:3 PAL CRT). When I adjust X and Y it only affects the picture in-game it seems and not the menu itself.

Also, a similar thing while playing GBA games. I can either have Fixed pixel ratio mode x1 which fits the whole picture on my screen, but in a huge letter box or I can have it full screen with the top left of the picture slightly cut off.

PS - I could be wrong, but Wario Land 1 for the GB plays slightly slower than I remember it from original hardware (I haven't changed any default settings).

Are there any ways to fix these issues?

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
