Conception is pretty B-grade stuff. Conception 2 has a more refined battle system, which isn't really saying much since it still isn't that much fun. The only real saving grace is with that twelve girls, you're more likely to find someone that appeals to you.
Though I was turned off as soon as Mahiru threatened to bite off Itsuki's tongue and kill him way at the beginning of the game. Itsuki had shown no indications that he was the type of person who assault her (though it's easy to see a bit of resentment re: her position in school vs his and the way she treats him as a result of that), so the fact that she just assumes that he would was really off-putting.
So the poster girl is a piece of work and the battle system vaguely bleh. I don't understand why so many people want it. Even if all you're interested in is the girls, there are actually decent games with similar girls since most of them fall into pretty familiar sterotypes, up to and including the girl who changes personality if you smack her.
