Hi, i was playing bravely default... enjoying this game so much got about 20 hours in, i usually put my 3ds in sleep mode by just closing it and letting it idle because that's how i unlock things in bravely defaults. And then i woke up this morning.. and the game tells me the game was not inserted! so the 3ds ends up restarting itself and so i proceed to startup bravely default from gateway and it tells me to start a new file )': . Can anyone tell me what happen and how to avoid this in the future? thanks also the game was on autosave but i also manually last saved myself.

Edit : Is this where cia will come in and be beneficial? Since my game cart told me it got removed maybe if i install the game to the home menu i can play it without save issues? thoughts.

edit 2 : That being said i was on chapter 2 can anyone upload there save file or help me? sigh.

Gateway stores all running game saves for CARD1 on its internal RAM chip on the card. The save file is ONLY written to the SD card after:

1. The game is closed via menu
2. A shutdown is issued via user input

In the event that any of the following happen WHILE the game is running:

1. The power goes so low your console shuts off
2. The game card or microSD is removed
3. The game title crashes in a manner that takes the entire console down with it

Your savegame will NOT be backed up to the SD card.

I can't know why your game card was found as uninserted, presumably it can even have been badly inserted and moved slightly during the night, enough to lose contact and register as removed, but this is an unlearnt lesson that has repeated several times here on GBAtemp. The moral is: when you're done playing a game PRESS HOME AND CLOSE THE APPLICATION.

Note that this will not apply to CARD2 games like Pokemon and Animal Crossing. They save inside the ROM itself, and do so instantly once you save in the game.

EDIT: Yes, CIA files save instantly, in fact you can even remove the Gateway card while playing them. It's still needed to boot up in the first place though.

EDIT 2: I have Bravely Default. I'm 10 minutes in, so I can't help. XD

So to avoid and trouble and confusion, i SHOULD manually save once im done in bravely default, also save by exiting the game by clicking home (after manually saving?) and my other option is to manually shutoff my game system and it will save? (again after i save the game myself?)

just make sure you exit out of the game ever now and then......also before you leave it in sleep mode, press home then exit, then you can open it up again and leave it in sleep mode to get your extra's......worst that can happen then if it crashes is you get no extra's.....but atleast your save will be safe

other alternatives are, converting the game to card2 or cia and installing

well yeah.....but only if your 3ds crashes, all other ways of the game closing will trigger the save, i.e home+exit, powering off the console....iirc even if the console goes flat it still transfers the save, basically all saves in game on card1 games dont stick until the game closes via normal means
