Thanks for your suggestions, I've replaced the HDD, PSU and RAM.
I've added what I think is compatible 3D glasses (since the monitor doesn't include it), but I'm not 100% sure.

I might be going to get a Wii U on Black Friday, so I'm going to have to delay buying this even longer, but hopefully by then I'll be able to get this build for cheaper or a stronger build for the same price :)

If there is GameCube or Wii game that supports 3D it is in and only in anaglyph 3D. (Unless it requires the use of an active shutter glass as an accessories to console, which I have never seen)

GameCube and Wii are incapable at hardware level to do other types of 3D. I have never seen a 3DTV that can do other types of 3D such as H-SBS over composite/component cable.

Wii U can do 3D (not sure if it is FHD3D or H-TAB used by PS3) over HDMI, but so far no Wii U game leverage this feature.

The real consoles (GC and Wii) don't do 1080p either, but you can get those resolutions with an emulator... Did you forget we're talking about an emulator here?
I already told you how to do it, move the camera left and right (given that's possible in the game), really quick. Dumbed down: Find xyz-position variable for the camera in hex, move x-position right a few steps, render, move it left a few steps, render, repeat.
Now that's very dependent on rendering speed to be able to do it with a 3D monitor using active shutter glasses. Anaglypic 3D is FPS-independent and better for that reason, but active 3D is no impossibility. As I said, I've seen it before in the emulator, maybe they've pulled that feature away due to speed issues or something? That I don't know.

I mean FFS you are buying a 1.5 k build to play Wii games?? Are you even listening to yourself?
I linked you a solid build with high quality components and even explicitly stated that an i5 will perform the same in gaming as an i7 would but you just cant seems to get it.
And a 970 for emulation??? I mean common, a HD7850 does the same exact thing. Sixteen gigabytes of RAM is an absolute overkill if youre only into gaming!
You could save yourself A LOT of money if you could just take some advice from someone who actually knows what theyre doing.

The extra RAM would help for multi-tasking (I like having tons of things running at once like tons of browser tabs or afking Runescape with another game on the side).

Upscaling is not the same as native HD with texture packs, graphic enhancement hacks, etc. Even if Dolphin 3D isn't native 3D, there are other games that support 3D.

Picking a strong computer build means I can (relatively) future proof it for if/when we ever get more emulators like 3DS (already a 3DS emulator but no commercial games yet).

Also, I probably will not be just doing emulation, I'll also be doing things like other computer games, firefox, youtube, etc.
I've always had weak computers so now that I have money coming in, I want to get a strong computer.
In addition, the HTML5 version of Runescape is horribly unoptimised and a strong computer to brute force it would help with that.

Just because games cannot currently take advantage of hyperthreading now does not mean they never will be able to. If future games (or even emulators) can take advantage of hyperthreading, then the i7-4790K would instantly be far superior to the i5 for those games.

Again, what you are saying is what simulated 3D is doing, using various hacks and tricks to guess Z value. It will never look as good as native 3D where developers took the time to pre-calculate Z value.

And again, Dolphin cannot do other types of 3D besides anaglyph 3D. It does not support proprietary API such as Nvidia 3DTV Play to make use of 3D transmission such as FHD3D.

I look around and it turns out only 3 Wii games officially supports 3D, all in anaglyph 3D.

Something to keep in mind, if the OP has set his mind on core i7, even after people point out the pros and cons, just let him keep his choice. Work around his choice. Don't stress yourself out debating his choice.

This is why, aside from my initial comment on i7, I will not attempt to enter into a debate about it. Well, that and I'm planning to do the same when I upgrade my own system.

Well, of course it's "simulated 3D", since you see it on a flat screen. This has nothing to do with guessing Z values though, as rendering two distinct images by moving the camera slightly IS 3D, you'll get "the Z values" natively that way.

If it doesn't support proprietary API, that's a shame, and I buy that argument!

Thanks for the help.
Added new pair of 3D glasses:

(there's 2 shown but I'm only going to buy one; this is incase the first listing gets sold)

From now on that link should update itself since I made an account for PCPartPicker.

Unless you are doing video editing a core i7 is a waste of money. Go with a i5.
Also an all in one cooler might be better (lower temp means a long life span)

Just to say again, if this is ONLY for emulation, its overkill/a waste of money.

I really hope you're buying this for PC gaming too. With the Steam sales coming up, save $100 and buy a huge gaming library to last you a year.

my steam library could probably last me my entire life.

The main focus is for emulation performance, but I will of course be getting some PC games to use with it :)

Wait I thought you didn't want to overclock?
Also why are you getting 4 sticks? That MoBo is a dual channel, not quad.

I'm not going to overclock, but eventually this setup will get outdated and the ability to overclock later will help keep it relevant without having to upgrade the system.

I'm getting 4 sticks of 4GB each because it's cheaper than 2 8GB sticks. PCPartpicker said that the motherboard supported 4 RAM sticks (when I added 6 sticks as a test it said it only had 4 slots)

Hmmm.... Since I worked on thanksgiving, I get a 25% discount on anything I can fit in a cart for one purchase between December 2nd to December 6th.

How good is this computer for the price?
http://www.walmart.com/ip/CyberPowe...B-DDR3-2TB-HDD-120GB-SSD-Blu-Ray-2GB/25843543

It says list price was $1739, so I don't know if the $1519 price is the Black Friday deal.
Assuming the bigger price, the 25% discount would make it $1304.25. If it's the smaller one, it would be $1139.25 with the 25% discount.

It has the exact CPU I was wanting (i7-4790K), has 16GB RAM, 120GB SSD, 2TB HDD, GTX 770, liquid cooling and I could probably upgrade the GPU later.

EDIT:
Never mind says if I did store pickup that it would arrive December 15th, too late for the discount.
