Tutorial [HOW-TO] Have a homemade Streetpass Relay

The only way I've been able to change the MAC address of the created access point on my Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030 card is using the create_ap script (https://github.com/oblique/create_ap/blob/master/create_ap). Still no cycling, but it's something to try if you are out of ideas.

i dont quite understand the benefit of home/streetpass to begin with, so what benefits/content can this be used for?

So I want to set up a homepass just for myself and my roommate. The reason I want to do this is so that we can streetpass each other more than once every eight hours... would it be possible to set up a relay this way? So that just me and my roommate access the homepass and continually streetpass each other, and ONLY each other?

I am visualizing a setup something like: Every 10-20 mins the MAC cycles up by one increment. (I believe MACs are in Hex)

So, the first MAC would be something along the lines of 00:00:00:00:00:00:00:01

And the next cycled MAC would be .....00:02 .... all the way through 00:FF

I honestly am not great with routing.... so please let me know if this would work...

I will have to figure out how to set all this up... a lot of the terminology makes no sense to me, and sometimes when I'm reading through these tutorials, I feel like I'm reading trying to read greek...

I suppose so... but I thought I was a geek, honestly.... I am a Sys Admin... I just haven't done much routing or networking... I'm fresh out of college in my first Sys admin job... so I'm still learning a lot.

its okay, once you get your head around it, it looks harder than it is but if you're having trouble i'd just get a hold of a galaxy ace cheap and use that for the android method.
i personally would consider this an easy job, ever since i got into hosting private servers for a couple of my favorite mmos, networking can become quite easy and enjoyable once you've got a good grasp of it..

getting more back to my question though, would it be possible to set a basic mac cycle list and me and my roommate be the only ones connecting to it?

I am trying to use the Windows Hosted Network method.

I just ran the maccheck script from nintendozone.no-ip.org/maccheck.cmd

For some reason, it had all zeros below the script, so I am guessing that means that my wireless card cannot support MAC spoofing.... (I read somewhere that is because I have an Intel wireless card...)

I'm honestly not sure where to go from here....

The complaint from iptables seems to be that my computer doesn't *HAVE* a POSTROUTING iptables rule... I'm not sure how important that rule is, but `sudo nzone stop` *does* remove the iptables rule, and stops my internet connection from killing itself.

I *think* the reason my wired connection keeps going out is attributed to the above 2 things, *and* my choice of BASE256 which is apparently supposed to get nzone passes every few minutes. I think that because of this choice, my internet configuration is *reset* every few minutes, thus essentially disabling my ability to use my laptop for regular net usage while it's running.

I just tried changing it to BASE16 and that didn't help the constant restarting of my network connections.
I have also found out that the script in /etc/init.c/nzone DOES NOT WORK.
I have to use the /user/local/sbin/nzone script to both start and stop the connection. I'll post later with a diff between the two files.

I am less looking into the phone option, and more into how to fix the configuration I'm using.
If I have to buy a $15 wifi dongle, I will though I would love some Ubuntu ready recommendations.

I'm running Ubuntu 12.04, and whenever I run the "fixed" version of the /usr/local/sbin/nzone (such that it sets up attwifi instead of NZ@McD1.
I seem to get crashes in a program called telepathy-idle for some reason (I don't know what it does thus I am hesitant to remove it)

So it looks like I can *run* the command just fine, but it doesn't do anything.

digipokemaster I think there is something wrong with duke's link. Something about no-ip being offline, prolly. I think that as soon as he check that, he will fix that.

As of Sunday morning I've had a HomePass connection running smoothly, not any issues with connection from the Virtual Router to the 3DS, the 3DS to the internet or getting the 3DS to get the Nintendo Zone to appear useable, I do however have a problem with the MACycler.
I can't for the life of me figure out how the MACycler works with picking up other streetpasses. It seems to me like there is either a rather large lack of people using the Homepass system, I'm rather unlucky when it comes to the MACycler and when I connect to a different MAC address all others have just left, or there is an issue with the 3DS changing MAC addresses so quickly, because I'm not getting a single streetpass when using the MACycler.

I have been able to get 6 streetpasses every 24 hours or so if I remain on a single MAC (4E:53:50:4F:4F:45), which to my understanding is the unofficial MAC for Pokemon users to use for HomePass.

Please help, I keep reading of other people's success using the same method as the one I have chosen to use and would like to achieve that same level of satisfaction from my HomePass connection

Any other way? Neither one of these ways work for me.
Wireless network cards for home computers are not compatible, the router that supports modified firmware is damaged few years ago. Cellphone not support modification of the MAC and is rooted.

And I have no money to buy new things.

Im trying to make this work using Mac OSX way, the 3Ds does detect the N-Zone, but I can't connect to the internet, even in settings, I'm using my phone's 3G connection, is it mandatory that I use ethernet cable? I'm using iPhone USB --> Wifi

i'm not sure whats going on im seeing people saying they are getting Hits for OR/AS i havent got a single hit, i'm using the Default SpillPassPi list i'm mostly getting hits on X, Fantasy life and Mii Plaza, with ocassional hits on Legend of Zelda,ALBW i made double sure that spot pass and street pass is enabled from BuzzNav & Holocaster. even went as far as Disabling Streetpass for X, has anyone confirmed that the attwifi vs NZ@McD1 is going to make a difference in obtaining the Eon Ticket? is there a spefic Mac to hope that works? or am i better off hittin a few different McDonalds around town?

Yep, it is online now. No-ip sometimes skips a host deletion notification emails.

All zeroes in the first row means your wireless card can't spoof MAC on a hosted network, that's true for several Intel adapters. Anyway you won't be able to make a private zone in Windows because of the authentication mode requrement, which is only possible for european nintendo zone SSIDs which distributes streetpass data between different MACs.

Postrouting iptables chain just must exist, just check with
iptables -L -n -v -t nat
Without that chain 3DS traffic won't be NATed to the internet, so streetpass data exchange will be unavailable. The script might work in Ubuntu 13, 14 and latest Debian and as for now I think nobody have tested it on Ubuntu 12. Several minor changes may be needed to make it run properly.

Have you recently updated 3DS firmware? Have you changed SSID to NZ@McD1
You can abandon MacCycler and follow "Before trying anything else" link in the first post of the thread.

duke_srg I think everything should be fine, but when I run

at the administration / commands at my DD-WRT, I notice that nothing happens.
It should add a Startup Command as soon as I run that, shouldn't it?

You should not anythin to the startup command, it must exist after installation precedure completes. Please reboot your router and try one more time, the DNS name of the server was unavailable for several hourrs, so you router may cache it and download nothing.
