Then by using this method I should be able to do local multiplayer using two 3DS and a single GW, as long as one of the consoles has the game installed in the emuNAND from a cia, right?
I just recently got a 3DS and a Gateway. I've been using EMUNand for a few days and things seen to be breaking. I can no longer return to home in apps that use the full screen "HOME Menu" transition since the 3DS will freeze there, and some games like Smash Bros will freeze after the 3DS logo launching screen. Is there any way to "repair" EMUNand without losing saves, or safely move them to a new EMUNand?
Saves aren't stored in the EmuNAND. With Type1 games (the vast majority of games) store the saves in the root of the SD card so these can be backed up. Type2 games (very few, games like Pokemon, Animal Crossing etc.) store the saves inside the .3ds file itself.

Most likely what you'll download when you download DLC is a .cia file. You need to use DevMenu or BigBlueMenu to install it. If your DevMenu/BigBlueMenu is a normal .3ds file, you can run it like any other ROM.
Hi guys, I have an awesome cart that came along with my 3ds called R4i3D. I have ordered my GW but while it doesn't come I keep trying to play some games using this flashcart.
Most games keep crashing on this cart, there are only a few that don't crash all the way, crashing occasionally every once a blue moon, such as Megaman zx/advent, Castlevania Order of Ecclesia, and so on and so forth. My point isn't to gripe about the cart, though. It came with a class 4, 4gb SD which I thought was the problem. I've tried it with a better SD card to find out the cart is the one to blame.
Ever since, I've formatted the original SD card and stashed it in the drawer. Now I'm using the cheapest SD card I could get my hands on because I'm afraid that all the crashing from this flashcart might burn down my SD cards. What worries me the most though is whether or not it can impair damage to my 3ds.
Does anyone who own/know better this flashcart could tell me if it can damage my console in any way? I know that there's no fix for this, unless the own cart folks come up with a better kernel.

Ninjahax works on 9.2.0-20 (latest as of writing) so no point in not updating if you plan on using Ninjahax. It may not be recommended in the future as a firmware can patch the exploit
Sorry if I misunderstood you, but are you saying that the only methods to play rom hacks are on a 4.5 3ds by:
* gateway 3ds rom playing
* gateway cia installation (via software loaded by gateway)
* unleaked dev kit methods

I can imagine that I will have to stay updated with flashcards software very regularly. I am trying to research first before I even buy one. Can anyone explain this the whole thing to me? Gateway may support 9.2.0-20 in the next update, although no one is entirely sure. Also how extensive that support will be remains to be seen [it may have less functions than a 4.5 exploit system, nobody knows].
As far as bricking, as long as you are careful odds are probably low you will brick your 3ds [keep your power plugged in, don't jar/interrupt the machine during writes or saves/important processes, and all the other basics]. Sky3ds is currently working on 9.2.0-20E but it can only mimic genuine carts and hold 10 games total [altho there is a workaround, ppl are saying it risks bricking your cart/etc].
So in total, it depends on how much you want to do with your 3dsxl. [i sold my updated 3dsxl and got a used 4.5 for all the addition functions gateway provides]. Also about updating, if you are at a stable update, and you are fine with the functions/games on it, you can stay at that update as long as you want [just don't go online]. If you want to update, just quickly check the forums before you do for news. But you can always back up your emunand before you update so you can roll it back if it doesn't work out.

Now after getting it, I cannot run it on the 3DS, only on the DS Lite, even after patching the card. My question is, have I been fooled, or is there truly a way to get this card to run on the latest firmware?

I've been trying to figure this out myself for awhile. I've installed the exploit with Cubic Ninja and installed blargSnes and GameYob. They both launch just fine, but every time I try to play a game they either crash or load then freeze. I can't figure out a solution any help?
