Hacking what happens to your DS when u close it?

Hi,
i have e question about using G6/PassCard3 on DS Lite.
1-when ur playing DS games, what happens if you close the DS? doest it Sleep? i mean like hibernate in XP? or it does close the game? does it shutdown or still stays ON ?
2- same question but when in GBA game mode.

Puts it to sleep, I use it a lot on FF3 and leave it sleeping for 4 hours sometimes yet the clock only says I have played the game for 3 hours total meaning it just puts your Ds to sleep. When you open your lid you will be in the same spot.

thnx, would someone say something about GBA mode too?
and/or verify that Sleep mode works in every DS game or not?

DS: There needs to be a proper DS cart in Slot 1 for sleep to work properly, but there's really no reason not to just leave one in there all the time. You can tell it's sleeping because the power LED will blink.

Gameboy: Will NOT sleep automatically. The game will keep going even if you close the DS. Some games, like Metroid: Zero Mission and Minish Cap have a sleep function you activate from the pause menu. As far as I can tell, this feigns sleep by turning off the displays to save power.

I do that a lot too... Does that kill your battery a lot, even though it's technically "conserving power"? Also, does it still take a toll on your battery in the long run even if you have it plugged into a power source (DS charger)?

DS sleep mode pauses the game and turns the LCDs, backlights and possibly the audio amp off when you close the system. GBA sleep mode is the same, but you have to enter it manually.

On a full charge the battery should last for hundreds of hours in sleep mode.

There are tools (Like GBA Tool Advance) that will patch GBA roms to add sleep mode if the game doesn't have it built in.

Yes the PassCard3 works with sleep mode.

I've read that the passcard drains the battery in sleep mode faster than a legit game card. I may have experienced this myself, one time I let it sleep and the battery was red after but its possible that was a coincidence.

I have a Passcard3 and I do this frequently. IIRC, in the DSL docs, it says the battery will last for about 24 hours in that "stand by" mode, and that seems consistent with my experience. Some games actually respond when you close, for instance, in Yoshi's Island DS, you actually hear Yoshi say "Yoshi!". Some games go into pause mode for you, so that when you open it up again it's like you hit pause before you closed it (which I like), whereas some games just continue on their merry way.

GBA games seem completely unaware and everything stays on (even the music keeps playing), so it doesn't buy you anything. How does one put the DS into "stand by" in GBA mode manually? Is that a function of GBA Tool Advance or is a software feature of some games (example please)?

I use sleep mode all the time. The only time it drains fast is in the cold. That is the same with all batteries though.

I just noticed that someone said it should last for 100s of hours in sleep mode. I tried that link but it didn't work. I am 100% sure that I do not get 100s of hours on DS games when I close it, even with a full charge. I'm sure I've never even be able to go for two days (48 hours). Perhaps the article refered to a DS and not a DSL, although I thought the DSL had better battery life (when the screen brightness isn't all the way up). When the lid is closed, screen brightness should be irrelevant (since it turns the screen off). Maybe some games are less CPU (power) intensive in sleep mode; I tend to only do it on games where I can't save frequently.

Software feature of some games. You can put some of them into a sleep mode through the game's menu.

i heard there is a software.
AFTER ALL, if G6 is able to save real time in every game, why need to worry about sleep mode in GBA mode? we can just save, am i right? correct me if i'm wrong.
and in DS mode,which u dont have real time save, u CAN safely close the lid.

Last time I closed my ds during a game, the screen started flashing on and off rapidly (i saw the light) and it made a rapid tapping sound. so i opened it back up, in the past it worked normally and went to sleep. Weird! It was tetris ds.
