Okay now who would be stupid enough to know that they are gonna lose money and still do it , i think there is something behide all of this

i agree with you there.... what kind of massive company that's been in the industry for eon's, do something as overwelmingly stupid as that.... i can smell bullshit around... and it's coming from you guys

it you two guys who are the stupid ones.

they do it to sell consoles because people that buy the consoles will have to drop $69 a game.
They will make it up if you buy 4-5 games and after that its profit.

open your ears and eyes before you open your mouths.

Its actually smart business win you think about it. The prices of the consoles will go down as time progresses. Games wont.

microsoft lost money on every xbox they sold. I think sony lost money on every ps2 as well unit it was in its 3rd year. Sony still looses money on every psp as well.

Do your research!

I'd hate to be you when you show your parents your report card.

If only you would do your research..

sony bought the rights to produce Blu-Ray DVDs, they are banking on blu-ray being the next VHS. Still don't understand? Sony makes money off of every blu-ray dvd ever produced. The ps3 bombs if Blu-ray does not take over.

"open your ears and eyes before you open your mouths."

God.

Sony did not buy the rights to blu-ray they are co-creaters and own the rights to it and thus will recieve liscensing from every disc produced.
Also Blu-ray will contribute to the success of PS3 but in no way will dictate the success of PS3. However, it can be said that if PS3 bombs there is a good chance that blu-ray will follow suit.

It's blue-ray and software sales combined that Sony is banking on. So both sides are correct.

I thought that MS was still taking losses on 360s, but I might be wrong now.

The reason that the Sega Dreamcast died was because of this market gamble: Take losses on every console sale and hope to make it up in software sales. The only issue is that the Dreamcast was so easy to pirate software for so sales were down, and 3rd party developers didn't bother with the system so there wasn't much to sell anyway. The PSX one that generation due to 3rd party support and massive software sales.

The XBox and the PS2 did the same and came out ahead. I don't know how Nintendo did. Probably lost or broke even based on their next move.

If Blue-Ray dies to HD-DVD (which I don't think it will, I think it will win because of the Sony brand name behind it - not from a consumer point of view but from the production business point of view) Sony will tank. Nintendo will come out on top just because they make profit on every single sale of everything these days. They're not taking a loss on anything, so the bottom line for Nintendo in the short term is looking very good, from a gaming only point of view.

Assuming that Blue-Ray comes out on top (maybe partly due to the PS3) Sony will be in the black for the next 20 years strictly due to blue ray licenses.

I don't see myself getting a blue ray player any time soon.

Soo wat does that mean?....... not to buy a PS3 right now ?Â

1 year warranty for the win (Wasn't the XBox360 warranty only 6 months??)

In the end with any system its all boils down to luck. For example my PS2 is a European launch system and its still working perfectly..

If your worried that something might happen with your system then yeah don't buy it right now but don't just base your decision not to get it based on something someone has claimed on the internet (And yes the majority of times the issues are made up and far far less systems are actually breaking than people report on message boards). I think I've seen about 2 legit case's of PS3s breaking down both got in contact with sony and were promised new systems in about 10 days.. Not a bad turn over.

Personally I'm going to wait till the PS3 is released here in Ireland (Which knowing Sony will be next September) so I can have a valid warranty. Will have the Wii to tide me over till then I guess..
your right on the money .
for example a lot of people reported problems or have had problems with all sorts of ps2 .
but my u.s. launch v1 still runs fine.
you have to understand when the demand goes up like at launch and factories are pumping chips, lasers, power supplies and other components out at breakneck speed mistakes are bound to happen.
also lets face it the headache to get a ps3 right now is NOT worth it.
just go grab a wii and have some fun

today is black Friday on the u.s. ( biggest shopping day of the year) the sales started this morning at around 4 am est and most products on sale sold out by 7 am at the latest but at 12pm(noon) i walked into a toys r us and they had plenty of wiis in stock and flying off the shelves.
maybe nintendo can give $ony and micro$oft a class on how to release a new console.
