PSNOW Changes Coming soon (PS1,2,4 games, Lower Pricing, keep what you get, etc.)

Sony's Playstation Now service has been a roller-coaster of hype, disappointment, and somewhere in between. While the service has become a revolutionary ground for adding a netflix like experience for games (and at least pulling it off unlike a certain other service) it is still in open beta and continues to test the waters of what it can offer for its users.

From the First release of the open BETA, there's been a lot of outcry to add retro games to the platform, as well as fixing the somewhat RIDICULOUS pricing for some games (are you really gonna pay $2.99 to rent Sonic the Hedgehog episode 4 for 4 hours..?)

But not to worry, Sony has been taking your feedback. And they've finally come out with a response that may please a LOT of people.

"In our plans going forward we’re looking at everything so there’s the real possibility that you’ll see PlayStation 1, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation 4 titles available," VP of Sony Network Entertainment Eric Lempel told Game Informer in an interview. "Right now it’s just PlayStation 3, but these are all options for the future."

In addition, Lempel said that Sony is currently looking at making changes to PlayStation Now's pricing model based on user feedback. As we've pointed out before, with rental prices that run as high as $49.99, and no way to access digital games you've purchased previously on PSN, prices are currently way too high. Lempel didn't specify future prices, but PlayStation Now did recently introduce game rentals for as low as $1.99.
Lempel said that Sony is exploring the option of setting a price for a certain set of content. "No details on that just yet, but we are actively working on that behind the scenes because we have heard from our users that that’s something they’re really interested in," Lempel said. He added that Sony also hasn't ruled out letting users just buy a game in full from PlayStation Now.

Being able to keep what You're renting is ABSOLUTELY a preferred option for me, as paying full retail to rent a game for 90 days is ludicrous at the moment. Good to know Sony it taking feedback seriously on its offerings in order to add a better platform for it's fans.

As much as I love Sony, PS Now isn't anywhere near revolutionary, sorry. OnLive is and was a "competent" enough service (the main problem with them IMO is pricing and the shit game list, the streaming service itself actually works), and stuff like NVidia GRID is pretty great, too. Streaming console games is just some small addition to what's been available already.

As for the news, I hope they at least add buying PS Now games (for good prices, anyways) in the next update, the rental prices are dumb as fuck and the game list is pretty garbage, too. I hope at some point they'll integrate a PS+ -> PS Now list, offering whatever games free to play if you're a PS+ user, too, so I wouldn't have to deal with the shit prices anyways.

But really I don't think I'll ever even use PS Now, at least not until they add PS2 games I can't emulate and really really want to play to the list.

They could have done way better and showed Nin10doh the real definition of Backwards Compatibility....

They should make an optional subscription where customers would pay like $60 and play whichever games they'd want (of course there'd be a limit of how many at a time or such), as it is right now I wouldn't get it for myself.

I prefer playing on the original consoles anyway.

I'd rather say pay 70 bucks to have unlimited access to PS Now plus a year of PS Plus. This i wouldn't mind paying to play old games plus have online gaming and free games.

Renting a game for a set number of hours has really got to go, whoever came up with that idea should be fired honestly. I can never see this being successful with that system in place, its just a massive rip off. It wouldn't be too bad if say it was say rent the game for a week/month etc and play it as much as you like in that time, oh well.

PS+ is by far the best value subscription service in the history of gaming and I am seriously not exaggerating with that statement. Anyone criticizing it has either never used PS+, is an idiot or is a sniveling smug little Nintendo fanboy.

Renting a game for a few hours is perfect for those who want to test the game out without any demo restrictions before making a full purchase. As for the "keeping what you get", it's a fantastic addition which should've been a part of PSNow since the very beginning. As for PSPlus, it's indeed possibly the best value for the money ever - I have no problems paying a subscription fee if I get a ton of games each month on all my PlayStation platforms - most of my PS3 and PSVita content actually comes from Plus.

Yes, but you keep them for a year instead of 90 days and you get a ton of games instead of just one. There's a bunch of additional stuff too, like cloud saves.

Well, you keep them as long as you have PS+, so not necessarily a year.

But yeah, PS+ is an excellent value, you're "renting" 60 games a year for $50 (the cost of a year of PS+)

I don't like it, yeah it's a good system for those who don't mind never actually owning but for me I rather purchase physical copies and that way they're mine.

Actually you can reactivate your content once you purchase the service again. That's what happened to me a few years ago. just saying..

Also on topic: Streaming really needs some kind of smarter price system. Netflix succeeds because $7.99 is pennies for the content available. PSNow and other services need similar type of cost-to-value-ratio and they'll succeed.
