Hacking First DS... these things normal?

Just went and got my first DS, Charged it up and played some GBA on it (don't have and DS games yet)

Few things i noticed ..

1. D-Pad --> are they supposed to feel kinda cheap?
2. While playing GBA from my 512Mb EFA there are faint downward rolling white lines regardless of which screen i use

Normal?

Not bad considering i was worried about....

Dead/Stuck pixels (NONE!! yay)
Cracked hinge (Time will tell)
D-Pad weak diagonals or is just bad (Seems ok .. just CHEAP feeling)
Shitty shoulder buttons (Mine seem great)
Shifting Touchscreen (Mine seems fine so far)
Yellowish screen (Mine is in fact yellow-er then the top but it bugs me FAR less then i thought it would)

Are you playing in bright light by any chance? My GBA SP's screen shimmers in bright sunlight.

Anyway, I also have the same cart, and have not noticed any issues.

Normal light .. Tryed it and looked closely in my micro .. No lines so its not my cart

2. Mine has faint white lines that scroll down. They look like refresh rate frames, kinda like what you see when you try to video tape a crt monitor but they are faint white.

err.. theres something else you should be worrying about too.
The R crack. :\ It can make the top screen crack lose from the DS if you aren't careful. I've had it happen twice. You can keep it from happening, by lightly pushing on the LED area as you are closing it. It will also keep it from cracking all the way if the cracks already present.

This is where it is before it snaps. It will appear to be a hairline , barely noticable crack at first. 1 or more cracks can develop around it. (Mine has 2 :\)

Its more rare than the hinge crack from what I've read though. I know 3 other people that have it. My friend Chris that lives next door has it too.

You have a DSL, right? Yeah, the D-pad is kinda squishy. Very much like GBColor, I remember. That's one of the reasons I got a Phat DS.

(That and the $35 price difference... and the fact the Lite is too small for my hands... and the danger of screen-crackly... and the tinny-sounding speakers... and the fact they still didn't have Navy Blue DSL... I would have forgiven and forgotten all that if they had a Navy Blue one... )

those with the white lines should their console changed

and about GexX2 who was able to destroy two dslite with the R crack :
how the hell do you manage to do that !
you must be using it in a way that helps a lot to destroy it. I'm not saying it's your fault, but something you do is wrong with the console.

nope. I did nothing to it but play it. I treat it like a baby. Its caused by the force that the top screen exerts on the plastic led cover as it switches positions. You can see this by looking at the plastic betwen your LED cover as you close it. It will move back slightly. Its caused by opening and closing the DSLite.

For those lines when vertically scrolling, you should be able to "tune" the screen voltages.
I know on the original DS model, there are two sorta screw like things under the battery cover. These change the voltage to the screen and help get rid of the scrolling lines.
There should be something under the cover of the DS lite, I can't check though because I don't have one.

The D-pad for the DS lite is way too small...

Yea the D-Pad sucks ... weird cause i loved the one on the micro.

These lines are really irritating me. Now that i know they are there i see them constantly. so unless i find a how-to on changing the voltage (If that even works) ill have to return and run the risk of getting one with the above mentioned problems

.. such a hassle

EDIT: Gonna return it i guess .. stupid lines! ... bet the next one i get will have another problem :'(

First make sure they are the lines I think they are, your description sounds strange.
Do they appear when you scroll vertically, for example, in zelda:lttp, when you walk upwards, you should see them on the grass, on trees, or on buildings.

What you have to do is get a very small screw driver.
Firstly start up the problem game and go to an area where the problem is easily reproduced (e.g just by the flick/hold of a button).
Open up the battery cover and you should see the two holes I speak of, they are different to the SL1 hole used for flashing.
The way they are adjusted is just like turning a screw. However, they are very sensitive, so only turn them a small amount. You need to find out which one is controlling the screen you are playing on.
Once you've found out which one is controlling that screen, fine tune it.
Once you're happy with the results (I doubt you'll completely get rid of the lines, but they can almost completely be removed) switch the screen and adjust the other one (if need be).

Good luck! I adjusted these on three normal DS, but never on a Lite.

Looks like that on black and color screens constantly scrolling (same on both screens for all games so far)... like the lines you see when you see a computer monitor on camera.

So do these come up whether you are moving or not? Well they definitely sound different to the ones I'm thinking of, but you'd may as well try adjusting those anyway.
But how many games do these appear in? All gba? What about DS? (because the ones I fixed appear on both DS and gba)
