Hacking Hacked Wii updated to 4.3 and cannot restore BootMii

I have a Wii that was working perfectly fine until our house sitter decided to update the menu so he could watch Netflix. I tried to restore BootMii nand with the KONAMI code, but I only have a dance pad that plugs into the Wii and not sure if that is sending the right codes as I keep getting the KONAMI message.

My question is, do I need to actually restore the nand before continuing with 4.3 hacking/softmods or can I just continue with the Homebrew menu I already have installed? I see at CompleteSoftmodGuide that they're recommending installation of BootMii, but what's the point of installing if I can't restore the nand?

I'd like to restore the nand and basically start from scratch, but none of the recommendations I've read about online seem to work for me. Any and all help appreciated. Thanks!

kanomi code would only work on a gamecube pad...a USB pad wont work (you didn't specify how it plugs into the wii). regardless though, there is no need to restore your NAND.

with the update, you probably lost priiloader (depending on what it was updated from) and maybe your cIOS. reinstalling those is all you probably need to do, but a full modmii re-softmod wouldn't hurt (link in my sig if needed).

bootmii is a recommended install, especially if you can do it on boot2....though it sounds like you already have it installed.
EDIT: after rereading your post....restoring your NAND and installing bootmii are two very different things....just so we're on the same page.

It sounds like you have BootMii installed as IOS and not as boot2 (that's why you're getting that warning screen requiring you to enter the Konami code, restoring NAND from BootMii IOS is not recommended because it could cause an irreversible brick, although unlikely, hence the added measures)
Anyway you don't need to do that, 4.3 can be hacked just fine. Hacks are removed with the update but can be reinstalled in a similar way as before. As mentioned, use ModMii.

thanks for the quick responses.

the dance pad i have plugs into the gamecube ports. and i honestly can't remember how i installed bootmii as it was done so many years ago. i thought i had installed it as boot2, which was the less riskier of the two when restoring. i know that in order to boot to bootmii, i put in a different sd card that has the bootmii program and also the nand.

in any case, i guess it's already installed and i'd love to follow the modmii instructions, but i'm running on a mac.
