I just got this done by a professional at soldering and it seems to work even though I haven't tested writing yet.

I made 3 backups of the clean system using dd under Linux and they where all the right size for a Toshiba chip and had matching md5sums. then upgraded the firmware and made a couple more backups that also matched.

My error code for anyone interested since the only mention of the same never said if it worked.
BOOTROM 8046
ERRCODE: 00F800FF
DFDFFFFF FFFFFFFF
00000008 00000000

I would just like to clarify for matched nand+sd backups I just have to tar up the memory card not image the whole thing right? Which would let me revert my digital Pokemon Y copies save.

You would just need the matching nand dump and save from the 3ds folder to revert your save, just be aware if you have other eshop games, doing this frequently might cause some confusion as to which saves go with which save and no being able to get one save back without loosing another, if it's intended for cloning pokemon just always make a dump right before.to restore direct after so as to not mess up saves from other games

I'm not a fan of cloning my main reason for doing this is that I seriously mainly wanted the ability to backup my data. Also the only thing I would also do is extra event Pokemon in the future if needed.Since I did this just yesterday I have the Pokeball pattern Vavillon ready for unlimited creation in the future

I would backup my current save.
revert to the backup made after doing mystery gift but before picking up the Pokemon in game which is when the unique IVs and nature etc get generated.
pick up a new unique one in game
trade it to a friend for storage (or to bank if it is not messed up by the downgrade)
restore my newer save
get the extra unique event Pokemon back from friend.

Micro JST also fit nice into the strap hole if Micro USB has the potential to confuse (some idiot plugging USB in). Not sure why but I actually prefer it over USB.

No cutting required. Goes in well. Dollop of hot melt glue to hold her stable is all. I've done 3 of these and a dozen or so Micro USB mods in the "strap hole". USB is a darker socket is probably neater as the white Micro JST stands out, but Micro UBS does come with the risk that someone might try to "charge" the socket.
Both types of plug do the same so it's personal preference.

That is exactly what I have been looking for to do mine. Can you link to where you got the connectors please?

Search Micro JST on ebay. They came from China but delivery was moderately quick to the UK. Around 10 days I think.

I wire the JSt straight into the card reader now so the ugly SD adaptor is no longer needed.

Done quite a few now of this and the Micro USB. I have one of each (JST and USB 4.5XL) surplus to requirements that I was thinking of putting on ebay but don't know what they would think about a hardware mod like this. Grey area.

I have been considering actually restoring one of my 3DS backups I have made regular backups over time. I was just wondering if it could be made safer by only restoring part of the backup. I can't find it again but once I saw a partition layout article. So would it be possible to just revert certain partitions. by using block sizes, count, and offsets in dd. Then we could leave any boot loaders untouched will only reverting whatever partition is needed to downgrade a Pokemon digital edition save.

Sure a more complete flash may be better if it is a firmware downgrade but for my use a smaller flash to revert a save would seem to be faster and safer.

I have a Toshiba nand in my 3DS XL using dd from a Linux computer.

Hey so I was trying to unbrick my 3ds and I thought my mod job might have been the problem so I had someone else do this for me.
When I got my 3DS back the raspberry pi wasn't even able to recognize the SD card. I put a multimeter on the DAT0 CLK CMD pins on the SD card and they were all connected to ground.
I tried removing the wires from my 3ds and while doing so noticed that the top pin looks kinda burnt in now like it's much deeper than before.
Just touching the test points it looks like the CMD, CLK, and DAT0 are all connected to ground. My guess is that somehow layers got burnt though and now all these are grounded but I'm not sure.

Is my 3DS ruined or is this fixable?

Before I sent it in I was getting error code:
00F800EF
FFFFFFFF FFFFFFFF
00000008 00000000

Now I'm getting
00F800FE
00000000 00000000
00000400 00000000

Hey mate! I'm sorry to read that. Well, if everything is "grounded" I guess you have your 3DS dead.

What exactly did the "technician" tell you when he sent back your console?

kinds looks like someone f**ked up it may just be that the pad is burnt off, does it look like a gouge or just the small inset that the pad normally sits in

the fact that there is solder stuck to it might mean he has gone through the layers to the next layer of copper or the solder wouldn't be sticking to it if the pad was gone

who was it sent to? someone from here or just random soldering iron dude?
here is a picture of one i did that someone had tried to do themselves and ripped the pads off....does it look like this or is the holes deeper

It's possible that if it hasn't fried something you could clean it and solder to the trace. This requires more skill than the person you had do this for you posesses.
If you can get a better (steadier) pic to show us I'm sure we could give you a better idea if it's fixable.

It kinda looks like it's a bit deeper than that. But I'm not entirely sure.
It was someone I know personally who after getting it back made me realize I know more than they do.
Here's an attempt at a better picture though my phone camera really doesn't like focusing.

yeah they have really done a number on that, i see a component has been knocked off and resoldered on and all the scratching around the pads

for the record lets say its not all the way through and its just a ripped pad

anyways from the picture i think the component....i *think* it may be a capacitor...in which case it may of been put on the wrong way around
also there is another what looks like solder splash highlighted
and a alt point for the ripped pad
spoiler2.jpg

EDIT: had a little look into that loose component (C154) and apparently the 3ds would still function without it http://gbatemp.net/threads/fixing-my-3ds-xl.367891/

have a look up at that possible solder splash...that may be shorting something out
