Hacking Where to get a firmware 4.5 or below 3DS XL?

Just signed up to say thanks to all of u that put up the useful information.

From EU, Wanted a 3DS XL.

I had been looking for a good buy on ebay for a few months, but didn't get anything for good price, and if it was it wasn't the color I wanted.
I wanted either blue/black or whole black, though i prefered whole black. Eventually i went on holiday to spain, and through some browsing in the local stores( El Corte Ingles, Fnac and Game), I found numerous silver/black red/black and blue/black 3DSes with serial number under the "good" Label in El corte Ingles and Fnac.

However since I was in a safe position(due to how many there were) I decided to look for a full black 3ds. I wasn't able to find any in store, appart from a "bad" labeled serial number in a Game store. My last resort was to look online, and i was delighted to find a Monster Hunter Black 3ds XL Limited edition for 210€, cheaper than it would've cost in the UK. so here is my report:

Full Black Monster Hunter Limited Edition 3DS XL from Spain(Fnac.es)
Serial Number: SEF1145XXXXX Firmware: 4.5.0-10E
Copyright 2013

was rather afraid that Fnac would have opened it and updated it like it has been reported before in france, but decided to take the gamble, and was also afraid it couldve been a late unit and had a higher firmware. But all was good. Thank you all very much for the useful info.

hello i am looking for 4.5 3DS XL as well and been looking at the chart for UK

from what i see only 3ds(according to the chart) over 4.5 FW is Red/black and blue/black. does that mean all other 3DS is under 4.5 FW?

also any good uk website for gateway?

How did you get on mate? Mine worked like a treat. Setting it up was much simpler actually doing it than it sounded reading the instructions!

Now I just need to figure out a way to get my save game data off my old 3ds onto my new xl gateway 3ds... hmmm

Hello,

I just bought a 3DS on Ebay before checking all the forum about the gateway and how does the "new" R4 works for 3DS Rom.
I have the special edition Zelda (the one for the 25th anniversary so no XL) and I wanted to know how to be sure of my firmware because I don't have the original box so I can't check on that one.

Got on great. For some reason it crashed the first time I tried to boot into the red card, but I haven't had a problem since (besides deciding what game to play!)

Nope! Does not mean that at all, if only it was that easy they would no need for this thread. Most 3DS (XL) made in 2013+ will contain a firmware higher then 4.5, it does not depend on the colour's (except some bundles)

The only way you can make sure you get a 3ds with the right firmware is to make sure you look at the serial numbers and then determine if it should be safe using this document

What I did is I went on Ebay and messaged the sellers to ask them for the serial numbers, when they mentioned they had a suf101 in stock. I bought it and it had firmware 4.1 installed

However you have to make sure that the 3ds is "new and unopened" as otherwise the user would of probably updated their 3DS.

As for the Gateway the place where I ordered mine from came in just over a week (It was oos first) but it was £54 so you can probably find cheaper, just make sure the one you buy is real (or it could brick your 3ds - look at the offical Gateway site) and that they are trustworthy. I'm from the Netherlands. I just bought a black/blue 3DS XL here at a local store. It had 2012 copyright on the box and SEH1011 serial number. It contained 4.2 firmware. There are many 3DS XL left in the shelve with these specs. So I think there are plenty left at the moment. You just need to look at the box and verify these things we know. There were also black/grey 3DS XL with 2012 copyright on them but there was no serial on the box.

well tbh i think pretty *most* the mario kart bundles are 4.x or lower....but this only applies to the actual official bundles, some shops will list it as a bundle, but it is just any 3ds with mario kart thrown in with the console....in which case you would have to revert back to checking serials etc

basically the official bundles are like this with mario kart branded packaging

but again i dont know if they have done any more bundles that would contain a higher firmware...so really there is no "guarenteed" but it is more likely if you cant check serials that the mario kart bundle would be 4.X (assuming its brand new and completely unopened)

Thank you very much. That's what I call a normal answer. I have an opportunity to buy new, unopened, original white Nintendo 3DS XL bundle with Mario Kart 7 or Super Mario 3D Land. I've heard that they always have <= 4.5 and the users here reported the same thing. So I asked here to be sure. I think I'll buy one.

just make sure its an official bundle like the one in the piture and not one that a shop has just thrown together....it has to be the limited edition packs....if its not the mario kart branded pack it could be any firmware

I went to my local electronic store in germany today (Saturn) to search for a 4.x firmware 3DS XL. I haven't been in these stores for ages so it took some while to find the place where they have 3ds xls, nowadays you can order everything online and for cheaper than those stores will ever be. They had 10 ds xls in different colors at the bottom shelf so I checked their serial numbers.

To my surprise there were 5 ds xls which had a recommended serial with 4 different colors to choose from. 3 of them had no serial number printed on them at all, 2 were from 2013 and had a high serial number. So I grabbed a Blue/Black 3ds xl and it has version 4.4. I have a SEH1105XXXX serial now. Just need to order a gateway card now, mario kart 7 retail from amazon is ordered already (for 10 euro cheaper than in store).

I also went to the local gamestop just to find out that they have half the shelves than they did 5 years ago.

In France, you can buy an already used 3DS on a well-known "freed ads" website : LeBonCoin.fr
I bought a 4.5 3DSXL @ 160 € (with some accesories) with no scratch at all.
And the profil exploit was already installed
