Hardware eShop Prices are Shitty!

Here is one of those things that hinders Wii U traffic (the buying/selling of consoles and games). Why is it that I can get a copy of Need For Speed: Most wanted for 13 bucks (USD) used but, the damn game is STILL $59.99 new on the eShop? Shouldn't the game be at least $29.99 new on the eShop by now? Here's a better one. Why did the UK get a 75% drop in price on Batman games for Batman's anniversary but the US did not see the sale at all?

WTF Nintendo?! If you want people to use the eShop more and take the plunge on digital games, you have to put up a few sales every now and then. You need to competitively price your games so that gamers will want to buy the game on your console. Am I the only one that thinks the eShop prices are garbage? Personally I want to move away from physical games. The only reason I have a physical copy of Nintendo Land (outside the fact that it was cheap) is because I believe you should have one disc for the sake of testing your disc drive. Nintendo is making it really hard to start a digital collection with prices this crummy.

The US had a sale on Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate a few months back but not in the UK. Sales are regional.

But yeah, pricing is ridiculous. Even Sony have adjusted their prices to be less extreme on Vita.

Yeah... this is nothing new. eShop prices are often higher as they are for physical games. And also sometimes completely absurd and far from reality.

A kid, that compares Nintendos eShop with the Xbox Marketplace or Sonys SEN will tell you the following after 30 Minutes of browsing:

- the prices are too high
- not much demos
- not much games at all
- slow download speed
- too few updates

I don't know what Nintendos problem is. They can't be so dumb, that they don't adjudge these problems. Maybe they're too silly or incompetent to manage their own servers.
If a company grows too big, it gets old, slow and unflexible. Maybe they are also unable to hire the right people and/or the managment dosen't want to hear or accept the advice of the few competent manages/technicans.

Anyway, they can't go on forever like this.

I don't see why they wouldn't want to cut out the middle man and save on manufacturing costs.

Nintendo should fire their economists.

Which is why I don't really buy from the eShop, the only time I did was during the last Ambassador game (Mario Vs. Donkey Kong for 30 cents).

I did download some F2P games they have there but when it comes down to it, it's always the retail games I play.

Well, NFS:MW is an EA game, so unless Nintendo controls all pricing of games on the eShop (including 3rd-party), I'm gonna go with it being EA's fault.

That's just it. People don't really stop to realize discounts by 3rd party retailers are not official.
Of course publishers should be more proactive in lowering their own prices when it's clear a game isn't selling any longer.

I think console shop prices in general are pretty shitty compared to Steam. I have a real pet peeve with the Virtual Console prices in particular, $5+tax for NES games is fucking insane, and oh god SNES and GBA prices D: I've been buying only my absolute favorite of games, I like DK JR on NES but being at the same price as SMB3 is just dumb, of course I'm only gonna buy SMB3! This is the same shit as fucking anime and tv shows, it's no wonder people pirate these things, they have way better options (VC doesn't even have options to turn off filters) and it's far more convenient but I'm digressing now. Nintendo really needs to have sales and not just 20-40% off deals.

Nintendo is the greediest of the console manufacturers and this is the result.

They would rather get less sales by setting their prices high than risk selling a single copy cheaper to someone who would have been willing to pay full MSRP.

No kidding. Not counting digital, Mario Power Tennis (Wii) back in June 2012 was last disc-based game Nintendo lowered to $19.99 USD.
Pikmin 2 doesn't count because it began at that price.

The E-shop prices are extortionate. Must admit I have only buy the VC titles or the download only games. Everything else is physical.

How do you know those games on the eShop are "new"? For all you know you could be buying used games from the eShop.

You're complaining about pricing on EA and WB games, but blaming Nintendo? Yet several Ubi games have seen permanent price drops on the eShop, which would tend to indicate that it's on the *publisher* (surprise?) to dictate the price, yes?

IOW, you are pointing the finger in the wrong direction.

(As for Nintendo games, they won't be discounted because they can still fetch full price in sufficient quantities that discounting them sharply in the eShop is a bad business move.)

Given that many Snes and GBA games on eBay or Amazon are more expensive, the prices are reasonable given the content of said games. Can you find Castlevania IV, Contra 3, Super Mario World, or Golden Sun for less than 10 dollars in good condition? I highly doubt it. Games that are short, like sports games or less than 1 hour of content, are overpriced.

Super Mario World - Used is $12, $240 new
Super Castlevania IV - $32 used, $208 new
Earthbound - $171 used (cart alone), $1000 new with box and manual
Contra 3 - $37 used, $199 new
Golden Sun - $15 used, $150 new
Superstar Saga - $12 used, $80 new

And you're telling me that eight dollars for each of these games is overpriced? Are you kidding me? That's just BS man. Those prices for those games are not overpriced, NES games like Tennis, Donkey Kong, Gold, Baseball however, are not worth $5 at all.

For games with a lot of content, the prices are not bad, for games with piss poor content, I can see that being an issue. Granted, there are some products that are overpriced, yes, most Snes are priced well, NES games however, are not. $3 would be better.

The eShop is probably the part of Wii U which Nintendo least cares about because they know their fanbase relies on physical releases not digital. After all, this isn't your PlayStation/Xbox audience which are used to use digital format games.. or even Vita.

This is why I either buy my games used or from a store and not digitally; digital retail game downloads on the Wii U aren't that great and are overpriced.

Maybe I could agree that VC isn't overpriced if Nintendo at least provided some more options, basic things like filter/smoothing options that emulators elsewhere have and also not have inferior color output to FCEUGX on Wii. These games are fucking ancient which isn't to undermine their quality in any way but god damn that shit stacks up quick too when there's tons of good games across all these old platforms plus they have the usual DRM that goes with digital distribution, this isn't even factoring in that you can get far better deals on Steam.
