oh do you mean the circle pad or the d-pad, i have seen a few people refer to the circle pad as the dpad too(for some reason :wacko:

What is the latest 3DS firmware? 7.2.0? Have I missed something ? Are there any site,where I can chck all the updates and the list of blocked flashcards? Can I safely update my 3DS if I'll get a DSTWO card version 7.2.0.?

Hello everyone.
I just wanted to ask, if I buy a gateway for my european 3DS XL, will I be able to play Shin Megami Tensei IV the RETAIL one (only US) ? I saw the region free feature but I'm not sure if that applies only to a 3DS Rom or to the whole system and makes me able to play a US catridge on my european system.

Yeah you can play retail carts region free. Just enter classic mode from the menu instead of gateway mode

Hopefully the development of a hack for later versions of the software. As much as I enjoy japanese games, it ould be nice to play english translated or west exclusive games without having to buy a new unit. Just saying...

I wanted to ask a question and even signed up to do so.

This is my first time buying a 3DS XL. I read the first page about http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/3DS_ha...the_System_version_before_buying_a_new_3DS.3F but I'm still confused. Which 3DS XLs work with flashcards? Also what should I do? Not update it? I'm a total noob at this.

I just wanted to get past the annoying region lock without having to brick my 3DS or mess up my games.

Flashcards will only work on firmware 4.1-4.5 as of now, this applies to all 3ds (regular/XL/LL/whatever). Only 2ds cannot use flashcards because the lowest firmware it comes with is 6.3 (or somewhere around there).

The system firmware is referred to as Sysnand. It MUST remain in 4.1-4.5 in order for flashcards to work. Do not update it past 4.5 it even if it kills you.

You can also make a copy of your system firmware and emulate it from your sd card. This is referred to as Emunand. While in emunand, it's safe to update to the latest version as changes usually don't effect your sysnand (there are are few exceptions, but only ever ever ever update through the system settings menu).

Get gateway or MT card if you want to minimize chance of bricking and high functionality (Gateway should have lower chance of bricking in the future since MT is a clone). They can both play roms and retail cards region free.

Is streetpass working and safe to use? If so, how does it work with multi-rom support?
If I am using emunand, can I always update to the latest 3ds firmware or do I have to wait for the gateway team to support it?
Are the gamesaves stored on the .3ds rom file now, or are they still tied to the SD card?
What are the requirements to use a .3ds rom online?

Yes, it works the same way as retail cards. Activate it in game and it'll keep running even if the game card's not in the 3ds.
You should always backup your emunand before updating since features might be broken in the latest update (like eshop/system settings/miiverse not working on 7.2). Restoring emunand doesn't require hardware mod.

Most games still saves on the sd card. Except card 2 games, which writes the saves to the roms itself.

Greetings! I have an important question, which is only being asked because I was stupid. I was bored, and I wanted to see what text I would see if I changed the "Open with" program for a 3DS ROM to notepad, but I want to change it back to its default "Open with" program: Windows Shell Common Dll. How do I do this since it doesn't appear when choosing a program to open the file (3DS ROM)? I've googled this and found one solution, but 3DS isn't a default windows extension, which I need it to be in order for the solution to be applicable to my problem. Thank you in advance.

So I just got my GW3D and I have everything setup. i formatted my SD Card and got the EmuNand setup straight after installing the OMEGA 2.2 firmware. I enter Classic mode and my firmware in settings says GW 3D 4.5.0 U-10

When I try to enter the eShop it's asking me to update - which I'm pretty sure people told me not to do. Just want to know if there's anything I'm doing wrong or if eshop is not supported after an update or something right now.

I have a question. I just bought a 3DS XL with 4.4 and ordered a Gateway. Is there any point of dumping my NAND via hardware, or is that just for restoring the original NAND if it gets updated/bricked? From what I gather you can dump your original NAND with Gateway and use emunand to update to newer versions without touching the original NAND.

Also, is there any reason to update my original NAND to 4.5?
