Good to know, and thanks for the offer of help. I'll try some more before asking for assistance, I'm not sure if my USB adapters are compatible. I tried the Windows 7 methods, and my 3DSs just wouldn't find any APs. I picked up a new wifi adapter today to try. I have a Raspberry Pi, but I think SpillPass needs that specific wifi adapter to work, wouldn't work with my other adapters (once stopping the rolling screen, shows an IP etc. but says something about a nl80211 driver/file missing) . And not sure if I need any ports forwarded or not.. I have a ddwrt router, but other people use it to access the internet and don't want to disrupt that.

And then? That means ms wont release any update for XP. That doesnt make an OS dead. I have a working computer with win 98, and its still working
That's not the point. The point is that it's not fit to use in this era anymore. So take the WinXP guide off the starting post.

Sorry, but this is a very narrow-minded thing to say. As a user with a XP server machine, I found and would still find that post informative. Lack of support from Microsoft means almost nothing to me - heck, that's less windows updates and downtime on the server when it's hosting Mumble, Vent, a number of games and a Streetpass relay. Everything I download for the server is pushed to it internally, so I never use any browsers on it.

Just because the OS is old doesn't mean it's utterly useless or "not fit to use". Utilizing it for a relay is one of things it is fit to be used for in my opinion.

As a longtime lurker, I can't help but post on this...

Sorry but i'm not going to remove it because it just lost support from microsoft, people can still use it. I give the tools, but the people choose which tool to use and how to use them.

Alright, asking for help... I thought the best way to do this would be dualboot Ubuntu and run that script, so.. I've done so with one adapter, at the end of setting it up it says.
ERROR:missing module or filename.
WiFi adapter not supported.

I plugged in another adapter of mine, that I'm almost certain can act as a hotspot. Re ran the script and it just says the same thing.. Using Ubuntu system settings under Network I can flip the switch and turn on a hotspot just fine. Any help? please and thank you!

The very first one listed in the first post. Dukes. On the same PC I have a really hard time getting them to work under windows (driver install hangs, PC won't shutdown/boot into windows with either of them plugged in). I think there might be something wrong with the usb ports or something on that PC even though I have the right chipset drivers installed etc. The adapters work absolutely fine on my other Win7 PC. So I guess I'll try the windows 7 method again on a different PC when I have time. Really annoyed I've been messing with this stuff for days on that PC and it never occurred to try another computer. Sigh.

Your WiFI isnt supported?

Type iwconfig on a console with a wifi adapter connected, also try using the second script (its almost the Dukes but manual way without auto change)

Here is Mi(krotik)Pass configuration guide (see attachment). You should be more or less experienced Router OS user.

I've created it for my own purposes & distribute it as-is with no warranties & support. This config successfully working in my 951G-2HnD device. Kudos to dssmiktik for his "random" script (http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=38683).

I've two questions:
  1. Is it necessary for attwifi to be unsecured or I can protect it by WPA2?
  2. What is the minimum bandwidth rate is required to make HomePasses?

1. You can use WPA2
2. Not much. Each pass is about 1MB.

Mi wifi works great, and with ubuntu 12.04 i could use this script.
nl80211: Could not configure driver mode means your device isnt supported for hotspot.

Eep, it seems as though I am running into some problems and am in need of some assistance.

I did the Windows method and eventually got things running. I have a Sony Vaio with Network Sharing capabilities, so normally I can skip using the CMD and go straight to changing the settings for the virtual adapter. At first I tried the CMD method and that was not working as the DS would get past finding the Access Point and then fail to connect to the internet. So I tried using the Network Sharing options to turn on a network instead. This appeared to work, as I was able to finally connect to the internet. Heck, I was pretty excited and thought that I had finally got it working. The Nintendo Zone notification thing even made the sound thing!
However, after turning on MACycle, I lost connecting on the 3DS and from that point forward, my 3DS was no longer able to see 'attwifi' as an access point. I have tried doing a system restore. I have tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them. I have tried restarts. I have tried turning off my 3DS. I have tried doing it through the CMD again. I have tried manually adding the SSID. I am at a loss. As such, I have come here in seek of the wisdom that floods these forums! >_<

I thank you ahead of time!

Still not having any success getting this setup at all in Win7 64bit. The adapter I have, it's driver GUI has access point options, so they might be interfering or something. I click Mode on the utility and selected Access Point, my PC blue screens. The first time I had everything set up like the guide states to the letter, and my 3DS couldn't find the access point, and wouldn't connect when I entered the info manually. I'm about to drop $40 on the recommended belkin adapter for SpillPass and hope that works. This is proving most frustrating and ultimately a waste of time. One big down side to living in a extremely rural area, in Canada no less so adapters etc are expensive!
