Hi. Just bought a Nintendo 3DS with a firmware higher than 4.5. Is there anyway I can hack my 3DS to play old NDS games or does that also require 4.1-4.5? I got an old R4 card for an original Nintendo DS.

Thanks

if the r4 card has any updates to work on the 3DS firmware then i would google search your R4 and look for firmware updates, most flash carts were blocked after 4.5 update you might have to buy a new DS mode flashcart

As far as i know AC uses different offsets than Pokemon. So either use a Hex-Editor (I like to use http://mh-nexus.de/en/hxd/ (one of the few with a good working binary diff), other free good ones are available) or give a http://gbatemp.net/threads/way-to-d...n-from-power-saves.364150/page-3#post-4960003 a try (haven't tested this tool on my own though) which seems to allow you to specify your own offset and length.

Sorry for the noobish question but what would I set for the offset and length?

no need to feel sorry, this is the noob thread after all :)

anyway: offset should be (at least for the EU version) 0x3AF80000, length 7892992 (which looks kinda wrong, but should be right according to the proper release notes of AC EU (unless i messed up the subtraction in hex -.-))

edit: just remember to do backups of both roms first, especially the one containing your save

I got corrupted save data again. Also, I'm keeping the original EUR rom on the card so I don't need to back it up (but I did anyways), Gateway allows both the US and EUR Animal Crossing in the launcher at the same time.

Is it possible to get this working at all?

You can also always (footnote: as long as the eshop works on emuNAND that is) redownload eshop purchases, as those are tied to the console.

That's not entirely accurate, at least not in my situation. I am using the same 3ds, but I switched from an R4i deluxe, to a Gateway.
With the R4, I had emunand 7.0, and I bought a few eshop games that worked just fine. When I switched to a GW card, and rebuilt the emunand, the games were gone. I connected to the eshop (updating to emunand 7.1) and there is no free option to download the titles again. It wants me to pay full price.

The eshop games are somehow ID'd now to the emunand data, NOT the system info or nintendo user ID. (because I logged on the same as before, with my same user ID)

So I got my gateway a couple of days ago a friend of mine set it up for me and updated the emunand and everything is great so my question is do I need to format the emunand every single time before updating or not necessary ? also do game updates ( like pokemon for example V1.2 ) affect updating the emunand ?

Hi i got the gateway card recently. i got a few questions.

1. Exiting settings in gateway or classic mode will revert back to original fw. Is this intentional or am i not supposed to press x to exit it?

2. Is there a way to disable updates. My classic mode nan is vers. 7 for my sibling to play animal crossing. if they start the game without going to classic mode will it update the fw?

3. I saw you can save sav. files onto the sd? does this mean i can have multiple save files i can switch through in gateway?

1- Yes this is intentional or maybe something wrong from the gateway team :D you're not doing anything wrong every time you open the settings and close it it reverts back to the original firmware you'll have to open the gateway mode again, try changing the view in the gateway mode ( I made it two rows setup for the gateway ) so you can differentiate between the gateway and the original firmware.

2- as far as I know there is no way to disable the updates unless you disable the internet if you accidentally downloaded an update it will ask you if you want to update and the only way I know to get out of this is by formatting the 3DS because the 3DS holds the update in the internal memory. As for animal crossing the game won't force you to update as long as you're running it from the emunand not the original firmware so don't play the game on the original firmware it requires 5.1

here's a list of 3DS games and firmware versions they require

http://www.eurasia.nu/wiki/index.php/3DS_Games_with_firmware_updates_in_the_4.1_-_4.5_range

3- Never tried that so no idea really hope someone else will help you with that.

Random thought, can you fill your internal memory with stuff so that it is too full to download system updates, or does it have reserved space for that? I have a feeling something this simple would have been thought of already if it worked, so I can guess the answer :)

Well you can fill it with DSi ware games since they can only be played from the internal storage also I think there is a partition reserved for the NAND and the updates.

Is there a good link to a Gateway 2.1 tutorial somewhere? The manual from Gateway has very little information and I am somewhat lost... especially with regard to how emuNand and the main features work.

Just tried it out of boredom (set up GW emunand on a clean SD card) and it works for me, the redownload feature is just quite well hidden: (as i only get the german eshop version i'll give the rough menu point translations) menu ->settings and more -> downloaded titles -> redownload.

Thanks for testing. Did you mimic my scenario, or just wipe and put a new emunand on?

I didn't browse to the same spot as you, so maybe that's the reason. I browsed to the same game as I purchased, and it would only let me re-buy it. Strange how the eshop wouldn't know I already purchased unless I went JUST to the path you mentioned. I'll test it out later today.

Tested: Doesn't work. Shows my downloaded titles as just the eshop update stuff like YouTube. All games I downloaded with the R4 card are gone. So Duo was right. After 7.0, The eshop account is tied to the emunand somehow.

Hello all!!!!

Think this is really a noob question!

I am still waiting to receive my new Gateway-3ds card, my system is 4.4, I do have a lot of old DS games. Can I play them? Won't they update the system? (I do not think so but need your knowledge!) Forgot to say it is a 3ds XL!

Waiting for ur answers!

Thank you!

Yes you can play them, they won't update your 3DS they're DS cartridges not 3DS.
