Hardware Wii U Video Capture?

Getto method: connect the Wii U to a DVD recorder.

You could also connect it to a VCR, but I dunno what you'd then do with the footage on VHS tapes.

DVD Rec to a DVD? That would take a lot of time to get it into youtube altogether.
So a Capture Card is most efficient. Sadly they're too expensive. Why is that?

The Game Capture HD II allows you to store videos on a USB flash drive/HDD connected to the front USB port or to the internal HDD. However you could also just transfer the videos from the internal HDD to a USB flash drive if you want to edit it on a PC.

For people that wonder how good it is, i suggest you search for "usb capture card comparison" on youtube or google.
There should be plenty of vids and sites that can offer that info.

HD Capture cards are expensive but ones that only record from composite can be bought fro 40$ or less.

Wii U and composite is just...weird to me, component would be better IMHO (720p instead of 480i).

Component for me on the Wii U felt a bit washed out. It might have been my settings but I don't remember if I tweaked them. This is a video I took using component on my Wii U, and you can see the wash. Link. I need to finish my AVerMedia Game Capture HD II review sometime but I've had some people mention that it sort of dips on the frame rate. I don't have my Wii U anymore so I can't test it out on it but here's a video I took on the device of my 360. Link. (Click 1080p.)

I didn't have too many issues on my component cables when I used them, what happened to your Wii U? And are the files a pain to transfer to a PC?

Sold it, and not at all. You can upload the videos directly to Youtube using the device, or throw them on a USB flash drive. The device records in MP4 format so it's pretty easy.

But overall, you haven't had any issues hooking up component (i.e Wii/Wii U) with framerates or overall quality? Maybe I'll get one of these for my birthday

Forgot to mention that the Wii U footage was recorded on an Hauppauge HD PVR Gaming 2, and the 360 footage on the Game Capture HD II. I had no issues with the Wii U on PVR with component but I think HDMI picture is a bit sharper.

I'd rather get the second device, I've heard mixed results with the Hauppauge PVR, plus, it looks a little too cumbersome IMHO, while the other looks like a good space-saver (I don't have a lot of room, like, at all, with how my Wii U is set up and all)

Currently have HDMI for video and component used for sound, how would that work for the recorder?

I'm not sure about the Wii U but the 360 when an HDMI cable is connected in addition to a component cable it outputs sounds to both. The GCHD II has HDMI and Component input but only HDMI output. So it should suffice for your recording needs.

The recent system updates for Wii U enabled dual outputs (HDMI video, RCA audio, currently set up as such for my PC monitor and speakers), so I'd assume there'd be no conflicts for the capture device. Given that there are space constraints on my end, would the second choice be good to go with?

If you saw the Skyrim gameplay and like what you see then I'd recommend it. It's a nice compact all in one box. The GCHD II does some things. (Trimming, combining clips, audio overlay, commentary mode, as well as watermarks.)

I need a HD TV nao, can't read any text in game.

Ok, so I might get avermedia portable.
Just a few questions. Is this a good SD Card for the device?
Is this the right capture card? And, is it possible to use micro sd card adapters?
