'Free shit' - I, like many others pay a premium for piracy... Nothing is free. I get devs wanting to protect their work. But this 'holier than thou' crap has to stop. I have a stack of retail 3ds games... About £300 worth to be exact, I have also made a point of downloading the ROMS for every single one of the games I own. Yes I like piracy, I also support Nintendo and the game devs.

Pfff, downloading. If you really have the games then dump them yourself.

I only do this once and see it as little hint: The public available tools allow easy ROM dumping but people keep begging to get everything on a silver platter. Everything needed is there. It only needs to be coded.

smealums brick wasn't a gateway brick, and as he stated he bricked it months ago, so any possible theoretical exploit is not relevant, to put that one to bed i can confirm his 3ds was on 4.x not 6.x(thats not to say he hasnt looked at it since....just that that isn't what bricked his 3ds)

any bricks smea encounters should be nand corruption or stuff like that the gateway brick needed additional hardware as it locked the nand, smea simply messed his up somehow, this was before he had his emunand working so now he does have emunand in place its presumably safer environment to tinker with the nand contents.....as to what he is up to.....he usually shares most his developments on twitter (or at least his progress of what he wants to share)

Link? ... And have GW on the mind gamesquest1? I didn't mention GW at all lol.

Now, all the above is simply just conjecture and pointing out all the possible reasons as to why there isn't a public CFW at this point.

I'll like people to read through and comment, logically and calmly in something that makes sense instead of simply "WTF, fuck off". Be logical like my comments on CFW, explore every possible option instead of fixating on one. Did I miss out any reasonable possibility?

Wtf have we to do with flashcards? Are you not going a bit to far? As you should know, we hate them ourself. You see things only from the pirate side like the most here. "It's good, if it is cheap and even better if it is for free!". Typical thinking of pirates.

A CFW opens the door completely for everyone with the right firmware and for free. I bet there are a lot of users only waiting for the free solution.

Speculate what you want but don't make facts out of shit.

This is a classical example of failure to read. Did you even read everything or just selectively read the bits that you find offensive. In fact, it wasn't even meant to be offensive, it was meant to explore all possible options. So wait, we should just take your word for it? Perhaps. But what I simply did there was to list out all possibilities. I did not at any point make any of them out to be fact. You need to chill and be less defensive. Being defensive and failure to take in everything in its entirety is detrimental to progress.

This thread is to mean to speculate current events in the 3ds flash cart scene using a logical approach. Consider every possibility. Not dismissing a possibility simply because you find it distasteful.

Don't know how I can spell this out to you, I advocate piracy because I can't afford many luxuries in life. I enjoy melting into different scenes and following simple guides that make stuff easier and more interesting. I pirate stuff usually because I have no way to afford the content I consume (it's an addiction).
Movies/music/games/porn - I pay for stuff when I can, the stuff I don't pay for I never would purchase IRL so no one loses. I never profit financially from anyone elses work.
But lets get this straight - I own a 3DSXL (£200+), £300 worth of games, SupercardDSTWO, GateWay, R4i and many other peripherals... The 'piracy' stuff is just a service to access the content I either own or will never own physically.
If I don't pay for something I will never purchase... Who loses?

A 4.x exploit would make shit free for the cheap pirates that can't/won't/can't afford a flash cart sure. Better yet, sell me a CFW for 4.5 that offers me the features of GW or EVO. I'll pay you more for the work you do as standalone devs than I would the flashcart teams. Dont be sour because you don't have a business model.

but you mentioned needing a pi to unbrick....this isnt the case except for the gateway bricks

also link to what? i know it was on 4.x because i unbricked it for him

Smea's twitter - Most of the code stuff is way above my head but I enjoy it all the same, the decapping walkthrough on these boards earlier was fascinating!

Speculating is pointless here. All which comes out of it are rumours. But you seem to be an expert to spread shit.

Anyway, do what you want.

I can only imagine that's the forum's equivalent of storming out and slamming the door... Dramatic. Fuck you lambstone for having free speech, fuck me for being a pirate... And while I'm at it, fuck you gamesquest1 for being so helpful! :)

So you'd rather everyone just shut their mouth because it pleases you. So much for civil liberties. To reiterate, this thread is to help people make sense of what's going on. Having all the possible explanations allow users to come to their each unique own understanding of the situation. I'm not trying to spread a specific idea to people, just trying to arm them with everything in its unadulterated form so they can form their own conclusions. Heh, I suppose you could possibly be a proponent of the Turkey Twitter ban. This is the last I'm mentioning anything related to this sub-mini-topic.

Well. Thanks for the fucks I guess?

the way i see it is everyone is entitled to their own opinion, some opinions may be backwards, but its still up to each person to make up their own minds

as for the whole piracy vs anti-piracy i'm pretty much firmly set in the middle, not denying that i own a gateway card, but i do also think that making it a free really simple easy task would actually do damage to the reputation of what homebrew is all about, once/if a completely free method is released it will just result in every 4.x console getting snapped up by people selling them "preloaded" to people at a big profit, usually the people who buy consoles like this are people who "might" of genuinely bought the games, i dont like it when you see the like of "wii with 100 games installed" on gumtree and occasionally on ebay etc.

pirate if you want but don't try profit from it, i think anyone who does take the decision to pirate should do so on their own and not really have a step by step easy tutorial......this means users who genuinely don't have the money to buy games would put the work in to achieve it, whilst the general public would be put off the prospect as it looks too complicated, the R4 card was just rampant with the DS you could ask pretty much anyone what a R4 card was and they would kinda know, i think that's the point where it got too simple and easy and it does genuinely remove some legitimate sales from nintendo/developers

Not really an issue in the west though - Laws etc make these sales en masse prohibited... Generally if I see stuff like that online I report it to the moderators. I've considered selling my 3ds in the past, if I listed it on eBay or another site as a bundle I doubt I would mention the flashcarts in my collection. My 'collection' is exactly that, a story of my 3ds journey, including many things I've not even used (CirclePadPro anyone?).
Given the whole 'ease' of CFW you'd be surprised at just how few people actually have the know-how to install the most basic shit. If this was an actual danger you'd see people selling MT with 64gb cards and 'ALL BUT 3 3DS GAMES' bundled with 4.x devices. Which as far as I've seen... Hasn't actually been listed anywhere?
Which is why I've said over an over a 4.5 CFW wouldn't destroy the scene, the game devs, Nintendo... It'd just destroy the flashcarts.

yeah speculation is good for brewing up solutions to possible future problems.....now assuming the "cpu" rumor was true, they could of cut gateway loose because the platform wasn't secure enough against clones, so they held the new features back so they so they could protect them with extra security built into the card as launcher based security had obviously backfired. its clear from their last update they where thinking security security security, having a built in cpu to manage the security of their future firmware i imagine would be a good way of stopping clones,so they just screwed their original customers over to prevent the clones...if this was the case just getting the FPGA update wouldn't be enough.
This is a great point. For a flashcart team that has been leading for so long, making it impossible for clone devices is your very first concern.
I've read people speculate in the past that the delays could have been entirely related on looking for security measures.
If I were the head of GW team, and I found a very valid hardware anti-clone solution, I could easily consider dropping everything in favor of making a new flashcart. I mean, they risked killing their customers' console for the sake of security, you cannot put it past them that they would just make you buy another cart with just better DRM.

Maybe they're good with softwares but bad with hardwares?
Or maybe neither. Think back to when the GW was announced. People speculated that neimod sold the exploit.

Isn't the founder of GW the same dude behind the trueblue? Or a similar correlation?
I remember their dongle survived quite some time before the first clone came up, and there was only one clone, before their stuff was leaked and became free. Unless I am mistaken.

I also remember that TrueBlue threatened people publicly saying that using their code could cause the PS3 to brick.

Trying to look up information right now but the ps3 dev wiki seems to be down for me.

Where is that from?

Yeap. Steena, please do post up any links that you've discovered. Until then, this is really really really really unusable for this thread.
