Gaming How do Vita's PSP mode exploits work, vis-a-vis updating the Vita itself and switching regions?

Hello! Before I jump on the latest exploit, I was wondering about some of its technicalities. Mainly, at some point in the next couple months I want to switch to my Japanese account, and purchase DLC for a Japanese game. Assuredly, I would have to update the Vita's firmware in the process. If I update the Vita, would I need to wait for a new PSP mode hack? Also, would switching regions kill the exploit at all, assuming I don't update?
Sorry if these are obvious questions! I have not been keeping up with the scene... Thanks a lot!

Thanks for your reply! What I mean is, will the exploit remain if/when I update the Vita, to download the DLC? I assume it won't, but then again, I know that's not the case when updating the WiiU, since the vWii doesn't update as well. And, would switching to a Japanese account ruin the exploit as well (after running the exploit on a US account), or does that have nothing to do with it?

A bit OT, but how does the "kernel exploit" works anw? If it's a kernel exploit then why can't we run Vita code?
And why only the "kernel exploit" can run PSP games and not the others?

Generally system updates patch the methods for launching the exploit, so if you update, old exploits generally won't work. Since exploits are tied to digital PSP games and games are tied to accounts, switching to another region means you need to buy a game on that account, compatible with that region; since you can't launch games from other accounts, you can't launch the old exploit, and it'd be on a separate memory card anyways since you're only allowed one account per memory card.

There are several exploits for the current firmware, but I'm not sure how many work with the Japanese versions - the recently released Persona 2 exploit, for example, only works on the US and EU versions of the game.

Hm, you know what, maybe I'm misunderstanding how the exploit works. I was under the impression that once the exploit was installed, that was it, similar to Homebrew Channel on the Wii, or custom firmware on the PSP, and you could immediately run unsigned code. From what you're saying FireEmblemGuy, it sounds like the exploit needs to be launched every time you want to make use of its features, through the exploitable game?

Ah, I see then. Well, probably best for me to wait until I have no foreseeable need for PSN or a more advanced hack that would work across all firmwares (probably will be waiting a while for that one though) before I make use of the exploit. Thanks a lot!

Cause the Kernel exploit itself is in the PSP Emulator inside the Vita OS meaning it will unlock the Emulator letting u Run Native PSP Code that's why u basically have a Full PSP with XMB and everything

On the Vita front progress is slowly being made recently inside Members from Wololo have been able to Dump Vita Game catridges and even have been able to Dual Boot Firmware :)

All we need is a lil bit O patience and time......
