I just sold my DS phat and metriod PH for 110$ shipped on ebay (did I do good?). I want to get a DS lite and was looking on ebay for a used one and they have a few that have problems with the screen. If I bought it, could I send it into nintendo and they would fix it as a warrenty iteam?

I sent my phat in and was replaced no probs, they might be a bit funny if the firmware has been flashed as it voids the warranty. But from what i've read it seems as if they don't even notice. Good idea though if it does work

nice way to save some money, maybe you could get a reciept from a friend

I just sent my DS lite back, it had many problems, so I shortened the Pin connectors to blow fuse 1 (I can easily fix it) for a "valid" reason for nintendo to repair my DS. It had poor shifting touch screen, yellow screen, weak d-pad. I actully also had flashme (non-stealth) on it. I hope they send me a refurbinshed one NTL, I plan on doing very heavy modding on that baby.

I was wondering if I bought a damaged one on ebay (not physically abused) and then sent it to nintendo to fix, if they would do so since it's still under warrenty. I wouldn't think this would be bad ethics because the seller has the opportunity to send it for a 1 year warrenty and chooses not to, and to sell "as-is".

So it was you that bought it!

Was yours one with the broken hinge, or what?

I stalked many, many Broken DS lite auctions.

LOL

Wait a minute... so you guys buy broken ds and send it in and nintendo will fix it without asking for a proof of purchase?

Well according to the manual, you need to be the original customer or owner to get the warrantee. But you don't need proof, they don't ask for receipt or anything, the only thing they check is when you bought it, which is in a huge database.

I am going in for the walk-in service of Nintendo right by my house to replace my DSL tomorrow, I'm kinda worried that I have flashme_stealth installed in it though.

Well, the only way they can check for flashme, if the stealth version is installed, is either load a GBA cart, that is designed to run in DS mode if flashme is present, or they decide to hold A+B+X+Y (Normal force GBA cart in DS mode loader), or A+B+Select+Start (Emergency failsafe GBA cart in DS mode loader). A normal DS will not respond to either key combination, while a flashme DS will.

Okay... how did that happen? Did you bought some kind of extended warranty from them or something?

Nope! Spot out who is doing returns at the counter. At my store, there was a nerdy looking guy, a younger lesbian chick, and an older lady. I let people pass me until the older lady was free. I told her what the problems were, that the unit was still under warranty but I needed a replacement for a trip I was going on. I was generally nice to her, asked how her day was going and how she liked worked here. She said theyre not supposed to take them back without a receipt, but called one of the managers over to sign it anyway and gave me the papers to get a new one!

I know Im a scumbag, but eh

Too much of a risk buying a used DS lite on ebay. Anything could be wrong with it. It would look well if Nintendo didn't repair it. I would have stuck with the PHAT as their seems to be fewer problems with them.

well, my left hinge cracked on my ds lite. this is my replacement unit, that is about a month and a half old (got it because my original had a non-clicky R button)

i also have really hard to see hairline fractures on the body above the R button.

nintendo said they would fix the hinge crack, but probably not the hairline cracks. they said those are caused by stress and probably dropping the unit. it would cost me about $50 to fix those. i told them i keep the ds in an official nintendo ds case and i have never abused it. i also told them to forget it about the hairline cracks, because even if they spread, it doesn't look like they would do any damage.

then i asked if this is a common problem. they guy said he gets about one of these calls a day and they aren't sure why the plastic is cracking there, that they are working on a fix for it. i also asked if this happens with the pink or blue or black units and he says he's never seen one yet. but his reasoning was that there are alot less of those units and that cracks are harder to see. i asked if the plastics were improved on those models, but he couldn't confirm that.

then i asked if my replacement, if i even got one, would have the chance of a dead pixel, if i could return it. he said a single pixel is normal and industry standard, but nintendo cares, so they would replace it. he also made notes in my file that i was a second time warranty return and to check out the unit for dead pixels if sending out a new unit.

so, all in all, nintendo customer service is great. i'm waiting for my rma label, then it should be about a week till they either fix my problem or replace my unit.

I'm not having good luck at all, but mine is still under a Best Buy warranty, which I'm taking full advantage of. My first two DS Lite's had dead pixels on the top screen. Now, on this third one that I've had for a week, the L and R buttons suddenly stopped functioning at all. I've tried three games. I haven't even flashed or modded the damn thing and it dies!

I'm going to take it all back to Best Buy again today and see what they say. Hopefully there aren't terrible about it, which they were last time. "What do you mean it's broke again?" Grrrr ....

I did have the DSL unprotected in my bag, but there was nothing around to hit it, so I think I'm going to invest in a cheap bag/case for right now, just in case that's what caused it.

EDIT: Took it to BB, and they powered it up and the stupid buttons worked. The R button feels incredibly loose, so they are possibly failing, but they work for now. Kinda upsetting -- hard to play Mario Kart DS if the R button fails.

did you guys need to send in the box and all the manuals? or did you just send them the system?
and when they did give you a new system, did they give the entire package with it?

No, I didn't purchase the extended warranty -- I never buy those. I'm just using the original 14-day exchange policy, or whatever the policy actually is.
