You do know that the soldering can always go sour right?
I'm guessing the download code you tried to use was probably the free Super Mario game one?

Anyway, being a minor never stopped me from buying my stuff, then again, I've been doing odd jobs here and there since I was 13 because I just loved money. Selling your 3DS just because you can't pirate anymore is just stupid imho.

Tbh the XL is pretty easy for anyone with a bit of soldering experience, if it was a standard I would advice leaving it unless you can find an expert but XL. Shouldn't be too much of an issue

The real question to me is why even use a download code for a game when you know you could just download the ROM and play it with your Gateway instead? SM3DW was the first game I completed on my 3DS with the Gateway. Altho this isn't as bad, this reminds me of 4-5 years ago when Wii softmodding was all the craze and these forums were filled daily with posts of kids who had trashed their Wiis due to lack of fundamental understanding of basic concepts.

In all seriousness you could probably find a 4.1-4.5 3DS in one of your local retailers, altho chances go down everyday. Just make sure the serial number is within a known range of having 4.1-4.5. If you ask nicely the salesman will let you inspect the package of each 3DS as the serial is printed on the side! If you want to find out what serial numbers are safe to buy their is an awesome post on this very forum discussing that!

I feel like that guy is a total d**k dont you agree huntereb? Talking to that one guy who is telling me to buy games: If I had a job dont you think that I actually would? I would love to support the people who make these games because I personally know how hard and how long it takes to make a single game. I personally know this since an uncle of mine participated on a few past need for speed games. Dont hate because you didnt have the chance to get a gateway buddy. For me, the choice was either to buy a gateway for 80 or to be two 3ds games for 80. When i grow up, ill be more than happy to support the game makers. I am done arguing with you.

I kept a copy of my nand backing up with gateway. Check out aliak11. He was able to downgrade it for me and install a mod so you can downgrade your flash if you accidentally upd ate again.

He did forget to send back my stylus and sd card, but he was nice enough to mail them separate, and I just got that in the mail today too!

How about not playing the games if you can't afford them? I really hate those double standards. Well I'd love to support the devs, but I can't so I steal their work.

Would you mind if I asked where you got the download code for a free copy of Super Mario Bros. Deluxe? I thought that was a (EUR)-only offer.

I feel greedy asking you for a code without offering anything in return. No sense of entitlement whatsoever. I was just asking if there was something that one needed to do, to be sent the code from Nintendo. I thought it was just for EUR-region players who registered their Nintendo Network ID during a certain time frame. Being a US-region gamer, I don't think they offered us anything like that, across the pond.

Well, an European code wouldn't work on a US system even if you tried the code. x'D
But that's weird... I thought that the offer was for both EU and US... Oh well.

What a hard and cruel way to learn to never update a modded system unless you are absolutely required to do so and know it's safe.

I love how the white knight anti-pirates eventually visit threads like these to give their useless opinions. Yes, some people love to pirate. Fucking deal with it.

#ontopic Glad to see you're gonna get this straightened out, OP! Make sure to post updates on your situation in this thread, as I'm sure the non-douchebag, non anti-pirates in this thread would like to see how this goes for you too. :)
