Hacking Looking for some help with my r4i card

I am pulling my hair out trying to get this card to work on my 2DS. Before I post a topic on all the steps I have taken so far, I thought I would just post a general question first.

Will the R4i V1.4 Revolution for DS (www.r4igold.cn) card work on a 2DS running Ver. 7.1.0-15u?

The last update on the site was the end of august 2013. Not to mention that latest patch will not run on my DSL. Or at least I can't get it to run without error. Any help would be great!

My biggest problem right now is running the patch. It is a .nds file and when I run it from my menu the black screen comes up with card type, system ver, card check, upgrading, and result in red letters. But when I press A it just says "fail press key_a again". Any ideas why the patch wouldn't run?

According to http://www.r4igold.cn/, the latest update for that cart only support 3ds up to 6.2.0, so no it won't work on your 7.1.0 2ds.

But serveral cards hadn't had patches for the latest 3DS firmwares (look at the R4i Gold 3DS from R4ids.cn).

I'll most likely end up ordering a newer card when I have the money. I wouldnt mind figuring out how to update the card on my DSL.

I got the card second hand so all the software was already on the card and it works in my DSL.

There are two downloads on the manufactures site: a patch and a kernel download.

I tried running the patch on my current software and I get an error.

I tried formatting the card and putting the kernel folder structure on the card but I just get a white screen.

I tried copying the kernel files to the existing sd card overwriting the files it asked if I wanted to overwrite. The card works after this on my DSL but still wont run the patch.

Any ideas how to update this card?

As in, even if you can get it to update, if there isn't an update that supports the firmware it won't run.

I wonder if the manufacturer would ever update the patch, or are these older clone cards becoming the way of the dinosaur?

Pretty much every flash cart maker only updates the latest 2-3 models, if that.

In fact if you change the URL...

You can see that they have a page for their older model that they don't link to anymore, not wanting people to realize that they drop older models.

Now, whether yours is beyond the cutoff or not varies and your best bet is to try anyways.

Okay I see what you mean. The DL links on the 2nd link you gave me are 404 - and as per my previous posts I cant get any of the files work for me that they do have available. So I think I am SOL.

I know you have a section on what cards to buy but I am curious on which is your favorite?

If you're going to be using it for DS games on a 3DS and thus firmware updates are a concern, go with the DSTwo.
It's the ONLY cart that has survived every update so far, and in fact it came out before the 3DS did.
