I'm trying to setup my Gateway that I just got in the mail today, but it isn't working. I get to the part where I hold L when launching DS Profile, but it just seems to hang, the bottom screen is all black and the top is too, besides the top where the date and time are located. I tried reformatting the SD card and copying the launcher.dat file back over to the card again, tried another SD card, verified the checksum, nothing. I'm trying 1.2 by the way, I setup the blue card as instructed, and yes my firmware is correct, 4.4.0-10U. Am I doing something wrong?

Does anyone know where the thread went which compiled all of the firmware updates and a brief explanation of the firmwares pros and cons ie: 6.5 no eshop access.

I had it saved under bookmarks but deleted it by accident.

Does anyone have a link to a list or something of 3DS games/roms that can be played on 4.5 (no emuNAND?)

Not download links, but just a list of titles. I want to use GW firmware 1.2, so I can only use games that are playable with 4.5...

Are any of these playable without emuNAND? (JP, EU or NA doesn't matter, if one of the versions are playable please let me know.)

- Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance
- Harvest Moon: A new beginning
- Dragon Warrior Monsters: Terry's wonderland 3d (JP)
- Shin Megami Tensei IV

These are the only 3DS games I'm interested in at the moment. If none of them will work with 1.2 GW/no emunand I don't see a point in me using my red card GW at all.. :(

I saw that link, but it only lists incompatible games, and I don't know which games are created after firmware 5.0 because I have no idea when it came out.

You're probably holding L ?
In 1.2 you don't need it, it triggers diagnostic mode.

Okay, my 3ds-compatible DS flashcart is going to get here soon, and I want to get into the 3DS hacking scene. I have already asked several questions here before, but here is my current plan to "stay safe".

My current system is an Ambassador 3ds. I would like to system transfer to my new 3ds XL I purchased (which has 4.4U installed) while still having the ds profile exploit usable for when flashcartless homebrew comes along. (Specifically region-free and screenshots!)

As I don't want to run the risk of GW's 2.0b2 bricking my system, here Is my current plan of action.

1. Hardware dump NAND of 3ds XL 4.4U
2. Update 3ds XL to 7.1.0-15 (latest version ATM)
3. System Transfer to 3ds XL
4. Download games from Eshop (This causes the games to be usable with my system's keys?)
5. Hardware dump NAND of 3ds XL 7.1.0-15U
6. Back up SD card to PC
7. Hardware flash NAND to 4.4U again.

As far as I understand, at this point, all the games I downloaded that are compatible with 4.4U should show up on the system menu and be playable (this includes ambassador titles?)
Any new games I want to play would have to be done through emuNAND on GW 2.0b1, with save issues and all (eh, beggars can't be choosers). If I am on the latest 3ds firmware version, I shouldn't be able to streetpass, use the eShop etc.

However, I need to somehow get my hardware NAND dump of 7.1.0-15U to be usable with GW's emuNAND. I read in a thread somewhere (can't find it again) that this involves hex editing and a dummy sector. Can someone link me to a guide?

I would like to know if there are any flaws in this plan. All I want to play right now are Fire Emblem Awakening/Sacred Stones, with the occasional Ocarina of Time / Kid Icarus Uprising.

Another thing, can someone link me to a list of all playable games on sysNAND 4.4U (if downloaded through the eShop), including ones that are bundled with later system versions?

This has happened to me quite a bit on 2.0b1, its a known bug. I went down to 1.2 because of it, but wanted to use spotpass in fire emblem so I decided to ive 2.0b1 a try again.

When I asked about this people suggested I do a test save, go into game, save and then home (wait 15s) then quit. If it quits successfully you can then save no problem until the 3DS is rebooted. If it hangs again, restart and try again. I've doen this twice and both times this method has worked. I did the test save and then every save after that was fine.

When it does hang you don't corrupt the save, it just doesn't do the save procedure and you lose your progress. At least I haven't had any corruption issues.

always keep at least 1 save copy of your savegame.
If it crash, do not launch the game again right away. Put the SD card on computer and verify that you have the savegame file present on SD card. If not present, Gateway will reset the save chipset and you will loose your progress.

Restore a backup (even an old one) of your savegame. As long as you have a save file present, you can launch the game again, and it will not use the file on SD card but will load the data from the flashcart instead.
Of course, do not launch another game.


the method explained by MrOldboy seems to work fine too, before playing a lot, exit and verify that it's saving/accessing the card correctly.
If it does, then you can launch your game again and it will always save fine.
If it crash, restore a backup (always keep latest progress on your computer in case of crash)

I managed to make Terry's wonderland work with GW 1.2.

Now I'm wondering... it says I need to redo the exploit every power cycle. Meaning, if I turn off the 3DS, I have to put in the blue card, run the installer and go to DS profile again before putting in the red card?

Edit: More questions. How can I backup my NAND? I was under the impression that there would be an option on the blue card when running gateway, but I couldn't find one. Is this only available in later versions of the GW firmware? (Running 1.2 for safety.. don't want to touch 2.0b even with a long stick.)
