question is how far can gateway go with firmware spoofing if a game requires later firmwares. say for instance 7.2, 7.6, 8.3, 9.2 or however far Nintendo is willing to go to stop flash cards from working on their 3ds. can gateway create a spoofing firmware to trick the games to work on a 4.1 to 4.5 system. I hope they can they seem to have a lot of talented people working on the gateway card. I mean yes they made a mistake with the brick code but we all are only humans we aren't perfect no means and im sure they didn't intend to brick legit gateway owners 3ds. so hope they stand by their word about fixing legit gateway owners 3ds system or someway compensate for the damage that their code caused.

Dude 3DS is just hitting its stride with software.....the system just got to about 40+ mil units this holiday and 2014 has a lot of greats coming including new Yoshi, Mario Golf, Bravely Default (in north America), SSB, another Ace Ventura game, the first persona game on Nintendo.............plus expect 3rd party to pick up as Vita has sold like 6mi in 2 years and 3DS is the only viable portable to develop on.......Look at PS360 and how its best games came out in its last year as current tech 2013.........so 3DS still has 2-3 more years of great content coming to be sure
An Ace Ventura game...? What is this, the 90s? Although that would be awesome...

If you have an official Gateway card, there is no reason the lock would affect you, after all, if they indeed test their releases, they would test that scene with a gateway card and make sure it is working before the release.

The only scenario is if you buy a false gateway looking exactly like the original, and the protection locks you out.
You seem to be forgetting the fact that people have had their 3DSes bricked after only using their Gateway cart. No matter how much testing is done on a program/coding, there will eventually be glitches that happen.

I agree Devin is known and has no reason to lie about his brick situation................unless the Clone Mafia paid him off....but saying he didn't then why doesn't he try to make Gateway replace his unit? He is known, and has clout in the scene, Gateway has shown they follow these threads so they will know who he is and that he has cred..........

So Devin, are you going to take them up on their offer and send your rig to them for fix/replacement?

IIRC he said he's going to look into options as he wasn't fond of the shipping prices to their location.

Nice! Now the only thing missing is Online Play/Emunand of different regions (If that's at all possible). I'm more than ready to support developers and buy carts for online play.... but my US 3DS XL can't download the update I need for Monster Hunter 4.

I know the Emunand partition being created is based upon the actual nand... but I wonder... would ever be possible to manually install updated from other regions?

this is better than I was expecting. kinda wish they would give you two rows of games to make it a bit faster but its an impressive start.

that said I don't know if I can bring myself to buy a gateway knowing theres a chance it will brick my system. they need clone protection that stops clones from working correctly but doesn't hurt the users system.

gateway also needs to get the retail save key issue with 6.X games figured out. maybe it will work in the final 2.0 but no one has asked.(ive tried they wont respond) if they cant figure out the key issue that means new games using 7.x firmware(smash, Yoshi, Mario golf, etc) will NOT work on gateway due to the new copy check that uses the same method as the save key.

I know people can be pretty desperate to pirate, but who would really trust Gateway after they intentionally included malicious booby trap code in their program that put their customers at high risk of having their 3DS destroyed? Not I.

The only way I would ever buy a 3DS flashcard at this point is if there were some real homebrew going, including a trusted loader for the software, preferably open-source.

Don't be such a Wisenheimer. The 3DSes weren't destroyed. They were bricked. If they wanted to destroy 3DSes, they'd fill the insides of each Gateway cart with C4 that ignited if they ever thought about getting a different product.

It's not only that they made that one mistake, they keep making mistakes such as blaming clones, accusing legitimate Gateway bricks of being liars, accusing Normatt (a long-time hacking god) of releasing the region-free patcher to intentionally brick users instead of removing region locks from the 3DS cartridges, claiming that their product is "100 percent safe" and encouraging people to still use the 2.02b firmware even though it contains the bricking code. And now they released this video to showcase their multirom, which is the equivalent of shaking some keys in front of a baby's face to make it stop crying (no offense to GBAtemp or anyone who got a brick). So Gateway made mistakes, is making mistakes, and probably will make a lot more mistakes and not give a damn about it.

Well aXXo, we have what we have. Clones that don't do crap work on the work they stole. Work that damages consoles anyways regardless of which card its loaded for.
We don't have much of a choice.
We can either go back to paying money like real consumers, or hope GW seriously steps up and apologize, remove brick code, blah blah blah.
