heres my thought for the day. I think there maybe no bricking code, as such, I think this problem is a result of emunand.

You think 2 much and it's not helping anybody.
All tests done untill now point into the direction that the eMMC is password locked when the brick is happening.
This is not something that happens by accident, and it's also not something usefull for the normal operation of the flash cards.

It's high time you stopped thinking. While you were busy "thinking", people of the profession have been working on the disassembly to find out the truth.

so why are we getting reports of legit users of 2.0b2 and 2.0b1 getting bricked?
ReportS of b1 getting bricked? So far there's just this for b1, quoted in its entirety below:
Amigos!!!!!

http://www.elotrolado.net/hilo_ho-b...o-malicioso-en-2-0b2_1972148_s780#p1734936858

We don't even know its error code FFS (and NO, "BOOTROM 8046" isn't unique for Gateway brick, it's perfectly normal message for NAND dumping using SD reader for example).

i still wonder why they brick consoles... bricking flashcards/clone cards would be much easier to be honest... and you would brick the right thing...

So now anyway it's just a matter of time until somebody that has a backup of the nand and the parts and knowledge to use spi interface, force erase the emmc, flash the backup and report back ^^ or bruteforce the password lol

Bricking flashcarts is still intentionally destroying people's property and for me would have only made it marginally better. That said it was probably impossible.

So what I'm understanding is that people have 2 options:

1. Use a 2.0b1 or b2 launcher. If you do this, you run the risk of a brick whenever you go into the DS Profile in the system's settings.

OR

2. Downgrade to 1.2 and play any 3DS ROMs that will run on that firmware/launcher (have there been any reports of bricks on 1.2 or below?).

There is 0% risk in either of these methods if you just don't go into the DS Profile in the settings at all. This will limit you to strictly playing DS ROMs and any emulation that comes from using DS flashcarts (i.e. GB/GBC and GB/GBC/GBA/SNES on the DSTWO).

Safe according to those who say b2 has intentional brick code. So if you believe them about that, why not about b1 being safe.

There only is one report at the moment of a b1 that has bricked. It was on a spanish forum. Maybe it's just coincidence.

There is number of problems with this report.
#1: It is all based on info being mouthed out by Normmatt which I and many others in scene world know for a fact he is main engineer behind the two clones so of course he will do anything to discredit the GW team and their efforts.

I am not working for the clones. I don't know where they got that idea. I am more than capable of writing my own code should I want to.

Someone must be more right than the other.

So Normmatt worked for 2 clone companies? It's like serving 2 bosses.
Even then, he releases a patch that works for the original gateway card..
Doesn't that seem at least a little bizarre?
