You could try actually examining the code instead of just releasing it. Great way to start.

You "can't" examine a compiled code. Once compiled, you have no access to it.

You either try to "reverse-engineer" it, or you try to "patch" it like what R4i seem to have done.

Actually, most of the people with a bricked 3DS console should demand a compensation from their R4i reseller or boycott them. The resellers will then think twice before selling R4i or 3DSLink anymore, and ultimately this hurts R4i and 3DSLink sales
you dont wanna do that right now we have 4 "competition" for gateway who knows if resellers rejected those 4 we may get 16 more new ones

Why didn't Gateway just brick the R4i instead of bricking the 3DS? OOps I forgot maybe because the R4i FGPA isn't upgradeable like the Gateway and the pins aren't lined up correctly?

Maybe they couldn't. We'll never know though.

They must have done that though, they changed some checks around so their firmware would only load their carts and not Gateway.

Either way, if other people could reverse engineer it, they could as well.

EDIT: Nevermind, I can't read.

The downfall of all r4 carts wouldn't be bad, that would eliminate 80% of the adds a t maxconsole and console crunch.

Gateway didn't force R4i's arm to release the brick firmware. The R4i team took that decision themselves because they wanted to copy the Gateway firmware and in the process R4i burned their customers.

How can this be Gateway's fault?

The logic of some people :wtf:

^ Your logic is retarded though, weapon maker does not force anyone to buy their weapons, but still they buy them to kill people. So weapon maker are not the one to blame?

The situation here is a bit difference ofc, but you take the hint.

More like I showed everyone a suitcase of money, full aware that it will be stolen and I planted a bomb in it. The bomb did not kill the stealer but killed many people who relate to him. Many do not even know he is a stealer.
So who is more to blame here, who is the murderer, the stealer or me?

Simple.

This might just breed progress and R4i will become the hero once again by fixing all the 3DSs and then bringing support for up to date consoles. They should be rested enough to make it all happen in the next few days.

I might be reading this wrong, but are you actually trying to make the argument that if someone gets murdered we should blame the manufacturer of the weapon instead of the murderer?

That would require the R4i team actually writing code for the first time ever.

Still, in the end I'll still buy the "best for the buck". And gateway will have to drop their price before I decide to buy their product. But It's not for some time, I'll wait that the exploit are more solid.

In terms of Bang for your buck when you buy a cheapo clone .... you'll have to price in the risk of Gateway bricking your 3DS. Especially b/c your clone company knows diddly squat and won't be able to protect you from Gateway's vastly superior knowledge.

Good luck.

Gateway = low risk for bricking
Anything else = risky.
That's not going to change any time soon.

Yay more dumb analogies over here too
better than a person who sit on a forum 24/7 to protect a pirated card. You look like a dumb fanboy or a person who profit by Gateway.

I might be reading this wrong, but are you actually trying to make the argument that if someone gets murdered we should blame the manufacturer of the weapon instead of the murderer?
Both are to blamed, and as I said, the situation here is difference. The real analogy is the latter.

Use firmware on the flash cart that it is specifically deigned to run on. That way if something breaks you know who to blame. Looks like someone forgot to make custom firmware for their own device.

Can you morons stop trying to make multiple analogies every thread? None of them make sense and they sure as hell don't make you look any smarter or more justified.

now we have a company (Gateway) that seems to have purposely sabotaged their work. While we could argue about the right or wrong of those action, one thing is certain, the one that pay the price are those customer. And I got a huge problem about this.

I'm not sure we have the same definition of "work"... By work do you mean stealing their firmware, disabling the sanity checks and being surprised when something goes wrong?

Certainly Gateway isn't blameless here but R4 was the one to steal the firmware and modify it in such a way that made the bricks possible... It isn't black and white but at least Gateway has contributed real progress to the 3DS flash cart scene, which can't be said of R4.

Don't forget, if R4 had actually done their own work as they 'promised' this never would have happened.
