So it's been a long time since I've used my Wii. I recently got it out of storage and hooked it up to a tiny tube TV in my dorm. I went to go boot up a game I'd burned with NeoGamma, and was greeted with a strange error when it attempted to read the disc: DVD Loctl Error (1654), read type, after which the only selectable "Game" is "Gamecube Error", which obviously doesn't boot. I tried a burn of my copy of Starfox Adventures shortly after, since it was a burn on a single disc, and it worked just fine. However, my Wii read multis just fine before I packed it away; what could have happened to it during its time in storage and how can I fix whatever happened to get my multis working again? Any help is appreciated.

OK, sorry to respond so late. I have a cmios already installed, so what would be the best way to swap it out for either a reinstall of that or a new cmios? Do I have to somehow uninstall the one I've got now first or can I just layer it right over? Instructions would be greatly appreciated, I haven't done any mods in years and I don't wanna brick my wii.

OK, I've been looking all over the place for Gator's cMIOS v4 and I can't find a single living link. Even the one in the stickied Neogamma R9 thread on GBATemp has a dead link for it. Does anyone have this program so I can install it? Thank you.

(I DID find a bunch of threads with v1 and v2 of WiiGator's cMIOS accompanied by NUS downloader and some sort of MIOS v10 download function, but I'm guessing this method is outdated and the correct recent WiiGator installer handles this on its own.)

So, I installed a new cMIOS, booted up NeoGamma again and....nothing.

The error is the same, code changed to 1730 a while back when I tried a fresh neogamma.

There's no way that a wii that could read multidiscs fine a while back just magically stops being compatible from being stored in an attic. Is there anything else I can do?

That could be a possibility...When the version of NeoGamma I was using to load GC backups started having problems with multis before, I got the latest version instead...same issue, different error number.

I'm using the Homebrew channel to load it. I don't install any other channels to my Wii's root menu. Is there anything I should be doing differently, or you did differently to fix the problem on your end? Thank you.
