I've played it for a few hours, it's pretty fun. Similar to Terraria in many ways, which makes it great.

Although, for the life of me, I cannot figure out how to customize my ship.

How do you mean? You can use a pickaxe or your matter manipulator to remove the objects/lights/walls and just place items around it like you would when on a planet.
You can't get a bigger ship yet, but should be added in a few weeks.

it is quite good and refreshing change from terraria which I lost nearly all interest in

You can plant seeds on land with middle or right click I forget. You might have to use a Stone Hoe first on the dirt.
There are also merchants in towns you can buy tons of food from, it's really easy to get food actually there's wild stuff growing all over as well

i've played like 26 hrs and should be able to answer most questions

It's being played so much on Steam, I didn't see this one coming at all. How do so many people know about this, I never heard about it?
And it's basically like Terraria? Never played such games so can't judge.
Just surprising this is soooooo popular.

it's been in development for like 8 months, and they crowdfunded by selling pre-orders. The team is also being led by one of the Terraria artists (Tiyuri)
the hype for this game was huge! the crowdfunding raised over 1.6million dollars

It will be available DRM free outside of Steam once the final version is complete. In Beta right now

It is very different from Terraria but the same kind of mechanics

edit: I am actually very surprised it isn't more popular, especially on GBAtemp. GBAtemp, a place that had a hype thread for fucking Mad World on wii, and theres almost nothing for starbound

I might pick it up, when it's on sale. I'm not familiar with the genre at all, so will only take the risk at -75% I think :P
DRM free is a nice gesture, I don't mind Steam though.

You're surprised there isn't more hype for a PC game on GBAtemp? Don't be, there is almost NO PC community on here, sadly. To quote myself;
True that we are a mediocre gaming forum, that's very true, and it saddens me really. Especially for my preferred platform, the glorious PC masterrace, there is just no community on here. I made a thread about BF3 a few months ago, and literally only 1 person replied. That is sad, and I hope more (PC) gamers find their way to GBAtemp.....

I didn't really like Terraria I played it a bit and got bored, but I really enjoy this game. The building is very easy and smooth. The lighting is great. The only thing that is a bit annoying is that you can't grow your own trees, my starting planet doesn't have a lot of trees so I have to walk ages to find trees.

I played this, but didn't really like it. First off, the random buildings and villages are nice, but it can cause stupid difficulty spikes and usually it's simply not worth exploring them. On one level 2 planet, I found some sort of Aztec temple with enemies that had sniper laser rifles that literally did 100 damage in one hit. After a bunch of digging around them and doing weird stuff, I finally managed to get past them, climb to the top of it and my reward was absolutely nothing. On the other hand, right next to the temple, easily accessible was a chest containing the double jump tech. Also, while randomly generated enemies seem cool and all, there's basically three types: the guys that do nothing unless you attack them, the guys that shoot you and the guys that run at you. They do look different though, which is nice. Then I encountered some miniboss and it dropped a legendary bubble sword thing that looked awesome, but actually was far worse than my "crappy hammer". Ores other than copper and the occasional iron seem to be very rare or only found undergroud, but digging underground seems to get you pretty much nothing. Because of the leveling enemies, it doesn't really feel like you are getting stronger either. You can pretty much one or two-shot enemies or they one/two-shot you. So honestly, I much prefer Terraria for now.

Yeah, all valid criticisms. Hopefully they can expand upon all those shortfalls especially the monster variety in future updates. I'm not sure what I like about it but I definitely like the fact that you can always hop to a new planet for unexplored ground. In Terraria I basically just memorize my world in a few hours then you're just going back and forth across the same familiar terrain

hehehe C: Why use weapons if you can dig holes and build through walls.
Because digging a tunnel out of certain materials takes FOREVER. I think that aztec temple I mentioned in my other post was sitting on Obsidian or something, and it took ages to dig through it.

Really great game, just letting it flesh out before I delve into it any further.

Always get the best bow you can. Thing is damn strong anyway and pretty soon you have infinite meat.

Saw this a week or 2 ago, it looks great. Haven't played it yet though, I can't decide if I'll play this for more than an hour or so. Kinda looks like Terraria, which I only played for a few hours before I lost interest.

Does it play differently from Terarria?

Not really. You can fly to different planets though, so in theory you should never run out of places to explore.
