Ok, for the record, I have no idea what I'm doing. But I can follow instructions and run programs and if this works, I'm really gratefully to all those who made it so easy for me.

I've followed the instructions in Chaldron's second post, and all that seems to work as the connection test worked and my Nintendo Zone icon is highlighted. Now I'm running the MACycle program on random at an interval of 900 seconds. No StreetPasses yet though.

So how long before you get your first tag usually? I'm not particularly bothered how long it takes once I know it's running, because any number is good enough really. I just want to get even one pass just so I know it's working.

Also, I think I'm right in understanding that there's some sort of honour system going on that makes all this work? Is 900 seconds the minimum cycle time that is socially acceptable? Or is there another time that still connects but cycles quicker and thus gets you more passes?

Finally, am I understanding right that the more people doing this, the fewer passes available?

Or am I just way off?

I put 90 seconds and it was enough for a streetpass, that was on Windows 8, seems like W8.1 is incompatible.

Make sure your network adapter for the Wireless Card/Dongle is named "Wi-Fi" otherwise MACycle won't know which device to cycle on.

Also, please use 900 seconds. If you cycle through them all too quickly you increase the probability that other people will only StreetPass you and it can be very frustrating to others.

I tried MaCycle on two machines, one with win7 and other with win8.1, and it doesn't work. I have the virtual wifi working well, I CAN change the MAC using macshift cmd and that works fine, I'm getting passes. Only I have to change MAC manually. Any thoughts? Tried other two mac cyclers and the same thing happens. (PS. I'm actually using macycler to restart the virtual router after manually changing the MAC because it's simpler. And I noticed that every first time I do this after a manual MAC changing is that macycler, I think, adds +1 to the last number of the MAC. i.e., i changed to the MAC *****44 via cmd, I run macycler, then the MAC is now ******45. It doesn't change anymore even if i run Macycler again, restart my PC or remove and plug again my usb adapter. I use macycler in random mode not restricted to prime MACs)

I can tell you this much from just looking at your image: It is a driver issue.

First, check to make sure that you have the newest version of the Driver for your wireless card or dongle. Maybe check the one for your Ethernet Port too.

You can do this by going to the Control Panel and selecting Device Manager, finding your Network Device under the Network group, and right-clicking on it and hit "Update Driver Software..."

If that doesn't work, then here is what I think you should do: I had a similar Blue Screen just a couple days ago and I solved it by disabling the Wireless-N functionality of the Wireless Card in my laptop.

Go to the Control Panel again and select Device Manager and find your wireless card or dongle. Then right-click it and choose "Properties". Under the Advanced Tab you should see an option that says something like "802.11n Mode". Set that to "Disabled" and now hopefully your problem will be solved!

I got it working 3 times but it only works with the first MAC and then streetpasses don’t appear.
The biggest problem I have is that after I try to reset everything—I reboot and «Wi-Fi» name on my adapter is changed by Windows to the default string. I cannot rename it back because it says that this name exists already. Sometimes it’s reversed to «Wi-Fi» (and I can MACycle again) but I dunno why!
I enabled hidden devices in device manager and there are some, but deleting them does not help. My wireless adapter has already gotten #5 after its name in device manager. There are some ISATAP adapters (ni idea what they are) which were cloned up to #18 and displayed by 3 items like #16−#18 now. But I could not delete previous iterations of my wireless adapter.
Can the restriction for the adapter to be named «Wi-Fi» be changed? Like, input custom string somewhere. I can rename it to anything but previous names it had.

This makes me so frustrated. It worked flawless for the first time and I was happy. Purchased all the Streetpass games and they were really cool. But now I simply cannot get it to work. I have already tried DD-WRT on my router, but failed to setup internet access, only LAN worked. Ubuntu does not install on my PC, it crushes my video card somehow and does not even boot. I failed to use Virtual Router too. Phew, what a looser.

Ok, I need some help making this work. I've been at it for days with no luck at all. Here is what I'm doing, step by step. I'm on Windows 7 x64.
1. Connect my laptop via ethernet cable to the internet.
2. Open CMD and enter
netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=attwifi key=password.

3. Type
netsh wlan start hostednetwork.

4. Go to Network and Sharing Center, I now have 3 connections. Ethernet for my internet,
my onboard wireless and now Wireless Connection 2 for attwifi
5. (This one is where I get a little confused, as it is worded strangely in the original post) I click on my ethernet internet connection, go to sharing and select my Wireless Connection 2 (attwifi).
6. I then rename my onboard wirelesws card to "Wi-Fi".
7. To sum it up, I'm connected via ethernet, my onboard is rename to Wi-Fi, but not connected to anything and I have a second wireless connection named attwifi that is being shared with my ethernet.
8. I go to my 3ds and connect to attwifi and the connection test is successful. Nintendo Zone is recognized and I can use the internet on my 3ds.
9. I open MACycle and start it up and it goes through the addresses as normal, but no streetpasses for hours.
10. Using netsh wlan show hostednetwork, I can see that the MAC of my "Wi-Fi" is successfully being changed to the correct values, but no streetpasses are being made.
The instructions are simple and I don't know where I went wrong. As for step 5, I did that right? I've been reading that you should be connected with ethernet and not wireless for the best signal and no drops when it resets the card. The instructions then state to select the connection you use for the internet (ethernet) and share it with your attwifi (wireless connection 2). This leaves the Wi-Fi adapter free of a connection so that my internet won't drop. Any help would be much appreciated, I've been at this for days and no luck. I live in the middle of nowhere and I've gotten probably 3 streetpasses since the launch of the 3ds. Homepass is an absolute must for me.

Make sure there are no other competing internet connections in your 3ds's Connection Settings. Attwifi should be the only way it can connect to the web.

Other thing to check is using an over the air wifi-sniffer (i.e. airscan for NDS or WiEye for Android) and make sure your MAC address isn't being altered by your access point. That's quite common.

Other than that, I don't know.

Yeah I made sure it's the one in connection 1. The only other AP is my girlfriends house which is well out of range. I did set it up correct though right? And I'll try airscan when I get home from work.

So to make sure: laptop connected with Ethernet cable. Onboard wireless card named Wi-Fi and not connected. Second connection with SSID of attwifi being shared on my ethernets properties. And I need to use airscan to make sure that "Wi-Fi"s MAC is staying at what MAcycle is changing it to and not reverting back right?

While it may not fix your underlying problem (Windows renaming your adapter), the way to fix your issue with Windows thinking the name is being in use already would be by modifying your registry. Open Regedit (Windows Key + R, then type "regedit" and hit enter) and search for the string "Wi-Fi" and see what you can find, then delete the ones that appear to be Windows saying that so-and-so adapter is named "Wi-Fi". I had a similar problem using Hostednetwork on Windows 7 where it made about 7 different Virtual Wi-Fi Adapters and I couldn't rename them because even though they weren't showing up, they "Existed" in the Registry.

Oh and another thing I forgot, does it matter that my attwifi is considered a wireless connection and not a wired one? Every guide I see says it should be that way, but when I host the network it automatically becomes wireless 2. Could that be a possible issue?

So each of the MAC addresses on the list actually belongs to a single physical router somewhere and we're linking our router to that one by using the same mac address? Is my understanding correct? I'm a bit confused on how my router actually links to other people's routers by using the same mac address.

From what I understand, you're not connecting to someone elses' router at all. Basically, there are MAC Addresses that Nintendo's servers recognizes as Nintendo Zones and we spoof those MAC Address to pretend to be one of those. Nintendo's servers just serve up the data that corresponds to the MAC Address of your Access Point. Technically you could make up your own MAC Address that just you and a friend could use to just StreetPass them using HomePass; there is an option for it in MACycle.
