So this week, some lucky guys got their XBone preorders 2 weeks early due to a shipping error by Target.
One of the lucky guys took to youtube and twitter to post excited info about his new console.
This led to MS removing his youtube unboxing video, his tweets and finally banning his console from Live. He was able to get the day 1 patch so can play his game offline until launch. MS said they will reverse the ban closer to launch.
What do you think about this? Should the guy be banned? Is it fair? Why should youtube videos and twitters posts be removed? Is that unnecessary censorship?
It's worth noting that over 100 people were playing on Live at the time of the tweets and that Target estimate around 150 Ones may have been shipped early.

It's also worth noting Sony's stance on the same issue.

If you have an idea for a poll you would like to see on the portal just send me a PM with PPOTW in the title and your questions and answers for the poll.

No, its not fair to ban them... If they got it early is not their fault. Even if they unban them when the console officially launches, it still shows their bad attitude towards people who trusted them and gave them their hard earning money in order to support their console...

The videos and tweets is a bit far for my liking though assuming it was not a review or something the law probably sides with MS on this one, temporarily blocking access to Live I have no objection to on any level really.

However as stae1234 just mentioned I can not see this being a PR win.

Couldn't they just disable the XBone access to Live unless you have some special developer key until the release date? As you need to download the patch in order for the console to even work, that sounds like a better idea to me.

Well, I think it's fair to "ban" him until the actual release date. I think it's wrong to remove his videos and tweets. I mean, if they don't want people to play until a certain date, that ban would be an effective way to ensure that. Just as long as it's temporary and has no other consequences.

All other issues aside, Microsoft shouldn't have done this simply to avoid another wave of negative comments about their product. They've received enough negativity as it is. Why they keep on making these decisions is beyond me. If I had anything to say in the matter, I'd fire every single employee responsible. Seriously. Does anyone have anything positive to say about Xbox One at this time? Some guy gets the console early and gets banned? I haven't seen the video, but if his reaction to the product was positive, I'd probably pay him, not ban him. Good job, Mirosoft. I wonder if that grave you're digging can get even deeper than it already is.

As long he can still play his games,I believe it's fair enough.
Though, when I bought my Wii U before the release date,no ban occured.

I personally think they're in the right to ban until launch, they shouldn't have the consoles yet. If it was a permanent ban it would be different but they're only banning them until the time when they should have received them.

Well..
It's MS his console and preventing the fella from going online will prevent any unfair advantage in multiplayer matches etc.
However he did nothing wrong so...

Idk..

I don't think a ban was in order... Surely they could have just had an "error 404 page not found" type message for Xbox One owners until they deemed it time to turn on the network.

From my perspective if they didn't want this to happen, that would have been the bullet proof obvious solution.

Microsoft has every right to ban the guy (and reversing the ban later) to prevent him from getting an unfair advantage. But removing his videos and tweets makes no business sense.

If the guy continued to make positive videos and tweets, talking about how great the console is and how fun the games are, he may actually be doing Microsoft a huge service by inadvertently advertising for their console. What were they thinking?

If he was making negative videos about it (which I doubt; why the hell would he have bought the One then?), then sure, removing his bad publicity makes sense.

I guess its their only defense to temporarily block access to services that arent supposed to be live yet .. However i'd like to know what they are actually banning him from , what the hell are the minority going to do online with the console anyways , what are they acheiving by banning him.

I think it's wrong how they're moderating the internet, that sort of power is just too damn much.

it's elite dictatorship at the highest, i mean who do these people really think they are? gods? law enforcers? what happens if someone gets a game before release date too? are microsoft going to block their tweets and youtube channel too? so much control, power has really gone to their heads.

i know what microsoft should do next, if someone gets out of line on their console they should shoot 1000 volts down to their console and sedate them, they are the law enforcers after all and whatever they says goes, forget bill of rights and democracy.

and kudos for some people (there always has to be the minority) to not go into a fanboy rage and defend this, thats all i hear on the gamefaq boards and it's annoying.

i mean it's a $500 console we are talking here, they have no right doing that to his console he rightly paid for, god forbid what they would have done if microsoft got away with what they had originally planned to do.
