Currently: Hearthstone! Fucking hell this game is amazing. I don't even like WoW anymore, but Hearthstone is goddamn brilliant. I didn't think Blizz could pull off a card game. I mean, they're not Wizards Of The Coast, right? But they did it, and since there is no real world counterpart, they're able to do things that could never be implemented in a real life game. I could rant about this game all day, but I'll stop here.

Of all time: Little Nemo for the NES. It took me almost an entire decade to beat the game, and until that point, I played it nearly once a week, if not more.

I'd have to go with Dark Souls. When you die leaving a mountain of souls behind it gives the game that "one more go" factor because you have to have another go to reclaim all your souls. Then you inevitably die again....so on and so forth.

Dark Souls and Freelancer here. I rarely put more than 50 hours in a game, but these two are well above that. Especially Freelancer. Kind of the only two games I'm confident I'll always have installed in my PC.

Hill Climb Racing on Android. It really did become a chore. I was playing the same level over and over to get money to unlock the next level or vehicle.
Going to download it, wanna give it a try :)

For me it's LoL and maybe Age of Empires 2. LoL I've been playing for a year already, every day, just an epic game and basically a different world you emerge in.
Age of Empires 2 is just a game that I've played every year since it came out in 1999 (!!!) . Amazing game, timeless classic, the balance is incredible, the community is STILL active. Wow, just wow. Best game ever in my opinion, timeless!

1488 hours played up to now, still not finished with the game, trying for top medal in every map.

Puzzle Quest and Pokemon on occasion.

Pokemon fluctuates, like sometimes I'll have a real craving for it, other times I'll get bored of it easily.

To be fair you play any game 13 times over and it won't be "that hard".

Pokemon is a seasonal game for me, once is new I play like a madman(clocked more than 450 hours on White) and after some time I decrease my daily dose until I stop playing daily but always play from time to time.
Borderlands 2 is a game that used to play on a daily basis that become a chore, but lately I been playing a little less because I'm doing a coop run with a friend and sometimes he can't play and because is Pokemon season.
another game that used to play at least once a day was Super Smash bros Melee when my only console was my Gabecube Gamecube.
and to finish, on my pc master race only days Jazz Jackrabbit and DooM where my fascination, I had only a few games but the ones that where a must play where those.

EDIT: oohhh just remembered when I bought my GBA SP, the only good game I had was Metroid Fusion(in fact I saw a demo stand of GBA with Metroid Fusion and that was the reason I wanted one) and played the shit out of it, finished at 100% on 1:53 and then started playing again and again and again, love it.

Totally forgot about the original puzzle quest. I bought it for my original flip phone at the end of high school in 2008 and then played the shiz out of it till... Almost 2011 when I got a smart phone. I beat it with all the characters at least once almost twice.

I don't think I've ever had a game that I was both addicted to and considered a chore. I get addicted if I love the game, and I think a game is a chore if I find it really frustrating or unenjoyable, but continue playing out of some sense of obligation.

A recent game I've been addicted to is Kid Icarus: Uprising. Now I play it in spurts since I still need to beat every level on the highest difficulty, but I used to play it every day almost without fail.

A couple games I found chores were Sonic 06 (I swore to myself I would beat it, and I'm glad I did) and, more recently, Zelda II. I'm playing it for my New Year's Resolution to beat every Zelda have I haven't already, but good God, the game is bullshit hard in a really not-fun way, even with save states on the Wii U virtual console.

Fucking...Dark Souls. Dispute having a backlog of games I want to play, I always seem to just go back to Dark Souls and play that for an hour or two. Thanks to some corrupted save on the Steam Cloud, my last save that had like...20 or so hours in it got corrupted, so I have to start the fucking game over again, which I never fucking do. But I can't help it, the game is addictive ._.

Ehm... if we're going by games that we can't stop playing...
I may or may not have about three-thousand hours played on smash bros games (In comparison: even pokemon and civilization games only get to a few hundred hours). I actually bought a wii just for that (and I'll only get a wiiu once the new smash comes out on that).

However... addiction to the point of it being a chore? I never let that happen. When games start to become a chore I stop playing them instantly and never return to them, just as I did to world of warcraft.

For me only one game actually became a problem of "oh well if I don't do X than Y will not happen..." WoW when it launched was super hard/challenging, then it became a little easier, then it became easier yet and super popular. Then WoW became so easy that the challenge was gone and instead it was just tedious.

I guess for the game peaked at WotLK and after that I just kept playing because I felt like I had to supply the guild with this that or the other thing. (I had every profession maxed out and most of the hard to get recipes plus farming a metric ton of mats.)

At the end it felt like I was paying Blizzard to do work and the final straw was when my gmail account was hacked and Blizzard banned my WoW account. I never spent another dime on WoW.

which game do you play or had that is addicting(not your favorite, maybe it is), to the point that is a chore?

for me its Football Manager series and Pokemon series...

The Civilization series (more the early games and Revolution). It does become a bit of a chore as you start dominating.
