Pong,

you might want to take out the part of it not working, because I'm sure many newbies will read that part and instantly comment "lol gateway is better, waste of money clone xD".

Or just put the edit in bold above the part where you mentioned it.

So he should cater his post to dumbasses who will come to irrational conclusions based on something that happens from time to time in the flashcart scene? Yeah, I disagree with that, lol. Let the dumbasses be dumbasses and the people who know better come to more logical conclusions.

Not "cater his post", just make it more obvious he received a dud cart. The point of his review was to help people decide on which card to buy, and it won't fullfill it's purpose if people don't know all of the information.

There was a post in this thread, stating that "Gateway team paid Pong to write this." Obviously, this person had not read the entire OP and just decided to reply when he saw that the card didn't work.

i cater to myself and my views

i feel that when i review something im fully honest with my experience and feelings

some reviewers cater to sites because they "work" for the site, or write golden reviews purely to get sent more things to review

in my honest opinion of the R4i Gold 3DS Deluxe, its a nice, well built solid card, nothing visually wrong with it.
but things happen and you get problem units (how many people have even moaned about the 3DS and duff hinges, screens)
but like everyone else, the company is happy to replace (which shows very good support to there products)
and once i receive a functioning as intended item i will continue with the review/comparison

I see your point, but still maintain my stance: there will always be someone who will misinterpret the information and see what they want to see in a post. So if this is true, then why bother making the post more clear if it doesn't need to be made more clear for people like you and I? That's the point I was trying to make.

*nod* That's all you can do is remain neutral and give your honest opinion based on facts and not emotion. Good on you for doing that.

I guess you are referring to my post here: http://gbatemp.net/threads/comparing-gateway-vs-r4i-gold-3ds-deluxe.357263/page-2#post-4822228

To which I have to say this to you:

Learn to open a spoiler tag, you dumbass! The irony of your post about me not reading Pong's posts entirely and jumping into conclusions! :D

lol i wasnt referring to anyone here
im referring to reviews in general on the web

like places with give bad reviews of games because it stirs controversy and gets them views, which means there adverts get views and they get more money

and review i give is literally how i see a product, and its producers, GBATemp dont pay me, im not a mod in any shape or form. i just hope it helps people in deciding on what they want

R4ids.cn Team are bloody good, i mean in the past, they have had 2 bugged units, and suppliers that contacted them could send them back and replace for the customer, to me thats a bloody good service, considering even if you have a Rev 9 R4ids.cn card there still supported on the latest 3DS Firmware, where other teams have pumped out more cards.

Gateway have some serious competition here in my eyes, and it will fall down to who provides what features and the fastest

wel gateway has to be quicker and if the make an announcement the must have there software ready to be upload within a few days not within a month also gooing on a rampage mode towards the other flashcards makers wont help the one which offers the best and cheapest cards wins the game

but gateway is innovative the created a GUI and found the exploit

my thought is: if there is a "crack"in 5.xx and 6.xx is and the one who find it will be the "supreme ruler"of the 3ds flashcart world

Hopefully it's actually competition and the cards get independent feature sets/updates, pushing the other teams to do better/add more stuff & not Gateway does X, other teams crack and copy. That won't be good for any of the cards :(.

actually the DS MSET hack was known for a while and all the Information to do it was on 3DSBrew, as well as the info on the 4.1>4.5 Kernel Exploit
Gateway appear to have done the rest of the coding tho, as far as we know.

well the R4ids.cn team have said they are working on there own features also, so i guess it will be a wait and see on that front.
most likely be teams borrowing code from each other to save time in the end

This whole thread shouldn't have been posted in the first place IMO. It's premature, and inconclusive. We have the giant elephant in the room of whether the R4i Gold can stand its own against the Gateway, and then we read that the cart was a dud. Essentially, this entire guide just became a comparison of two R4i styled chips. While I see that Pong######## was trying to help out of the interests of the site, the overall objective failed as the major topic of discussion couldn't be held. But this name calling thing? That's a bit much.

My thoughts exactly. Maybe we should merge this with whatever Devin posts, since he has his and I'm sure he's going to make a review for it.

I was told that the reasoning behind posting it was because it was written as he went along, but that's not exactly a valid excuse as you still have to submit the post and everything, if you get my drift. If it goes to the end and it suddenly turns out you have a dud, why not save as a draft and resume when you get the working chip? It doesn't make any sense.

Yeah, but Pong isn't resident staff. He's not informed on review/news etiquette. He did it for information's sake, and since many people have been talking about build quality and the like in other threads, at least some of it was informative.

i would actually disagree with you there, i feel a review as it goes shows the true user experience over waiting and writing about it

not only can he post about his experience with the dud card(which shows QC issues), he can also post his experience with dealing with the company and their return procedure, whether he gets ripped off or not, ect.

Oh, I'm not saying it was completely worthless, the build quality part is nice, but the bigger issues were missed, so overall, the discussion could be seen as a minor failure . Just a bit premature, that's all. ;) The majority of this thread is balking at how incomplete the guide is, or how users think Pong is using this as a way to advertise.

Huh, that's a fair point, I guess, but it doesn't really quell the clamor that people are dying to know about. :( I am not saying that what he did was completely wrong and he should be punished over it. He's received more than enough of that judging by earlier responses. I admire the effort he at least put in to the writing of the thing, but the execution could have been a bit better. :P As I write a lot of reviews myself, I find that my creed is that reviews are a guideline to help a user make an educated decision with facts and evidence. I find that getting a dud unit can go in multiple directions as far as interpretation, but a lot of people are concluding that due to one user getting a defective cartridge, the entire team should be burned at the stake. Which is regrettable considering the decency of the company. If I were placed in a position like that, I'd simply wait a little bit, and then get a replacement unit, while noting the defective unit in the follow up. It just seems a bit more controversial to release an unfinished comparison, you know? :P
