I'm looking for a list of games that employ this annoying control method for some fundamental gameplay actions.
(e.g.: swing the wiimote horizontally to slash the sword, swing the wiimote vertically to jump, etc.)

So far i know:
  • No More Heroes (used for sword slash - annoying)
  • Sonic and the Secret Rings (used for jumps and attack - annoying)
  • sonic and the black knight (used for sword slash - annoying)
  • soulcalibur legends (used for sword slash - annoying)
  • Okami (used for attack - annoying - grab the PS2 or PS3 version instead)
  • Mario Power Tennis (annoying, get the GC version instead)
  • Zelda Twilight princess (used for sword slash - annoying, get the GC version instead)
  • Zelda: Skyward Sword (untested by me)
  • mario sports mix (untested by me)
  • MadWorld (untested by me)
  • Donkey Kong Country Returns (untested by me)
  • Pikmin 1,2 (untested by me)
  • Donkey Kong: Barrel Blast (used DK Bongos-style - passable)
  • Donkey Kong Jungle Beat (used only for secondary actions - passable, but i still prefer the original GC version)
  • Call of duty 3 (used only for secondary actions - passable)
  • Pandora's Tower (used only for secondary actions - passable)
  • New Super Mario Bros. (used only for secondary actions - passable)
  • Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (used only for secondary actions - passable)
  • Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 (used only for secondary actions - passable)
  • Wario Land: Shake It! (used only for secondary actions - passable)
EDIT: other games can be found on allgame via a custom google search

Not interested in:
  • games using IR pointing only (usually works well, if the sensor bar is set properly)
  • games supporting the GC or Classic controller (full list here and here)
  • minigame compilations
Possible solutions:
  • play them on a PC with the Dolphin emulator and remap gestures to buttons
  • use the 8BITDO FC30 pad - only a few gestures are supported - i've asked them to release the firmware sourcecode or a PC tool to config them, but my request was not fulfilled...
  • use GIMX - the wiimote it is still not supported - see and vote my request here.

call of duty games use motion controls.

w@w and mw:reflex use motion controls exclusively, bo2 and mw3 use either motion controls or the ccpro

there is also the option for gesture controls in the cod games but I doubt anybody uses it

Spider-Man 3: swing the remote up 3 times and at the end of it, press the A button. Or, press the B button while swinging the remote forward. Wario Land: Shake it is also a motion game, but it's fun; you pick up a bag of coins and shake the remote to shake the coins. Then after you've shaken it so much, it disappears and you get to collect the coins. And you'll get the gold coins if you shake it especially vigorously. There's also Boom Blox; I've heard the pointing and shooting in there is spot on.

Edit: The motion controls in the Sonic games are annoying as fuck. I think Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity also has its share of annoying motion controls.

There are tons of games that use the motion control's to do those things. In fact, most of the games I've played use them...

I'm playing through Pandora's Tower now and you use the IR pointer to aim and the Wii Remote to "yank" the chain, and it works amazingly well. Its much better than using the Classic Controller Pro, which requires the right stick to aim the reticle.

I think it would be more worth while to make a list of games that don't use the motion controls.

The problem with gesture controls is that they are not accurate as digital buttons.
I think gesture controls are good for minigames or secondary actions, but for repetitive commands that requires precise timing they are not good!
I've also found gesture controls make your arms tire out faster than simple button presses.

Actually the only "solution" to avoid gesture controls is playing those games on PC with Dolphin.
Do you know any method to remap the gesture commands to buttons on the wii?

(As i've said, IR pointing usually works well instead, even better than mouse)

Bully: Scolarship Edition, , you waggle the wii remote and nunchuk to fight, and also use the pointer in some minigames, great addition

The Godfather: I have not played it, but some people say it is great to play with the wii remote

Okami: Haven't played on wii yet, but some people say it is good in some parts of the game, in others is annoying

Resident Evil 4: GREAT, plays much better with the Wii Remote+Nunchuk than with GC, PS2, classic controllers...

Scarface: I don't like the camera controls, but to aim, shoot and fight is very good

Donkey Kong Country Returns: bad controls, annoying and tiring sometimes...

Project Zero 2 (Fatal Frame 2) remake: I hate the wii remote controls here, but this game is SO good that I finished 2 times. And i still want to unlock the others endings
the problem is the sensitivity to control the flashlight and the camera, is poorly responsive, very slow, my wrist hurts at some times. the button Z to fix the camera on the ghosts helps a little, but i think it's still annoying

Fatal Frame IV have motion controls too, but i haven't played yet to compare with the remake

Another similar game is Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, i bought this but haven't played also, but i heard good things about this

Endless Ocean: You only use the Wii Remote here, nunchuk is unnecessary, with the pointer you move your character, although I like to try new and different game experiences, I could not like this, so i don't played much

Cursed Mountain: You use the wii remote to aim and shoot the spirits, then you have to make the right moves with nunchuk or wii remote that appears on the screen to exorcise them, the controls here are reasonable. But is a good game

Pikmin 1,2 and Metroid Prime Trilogy: Ports from GC versions, with good Wii remote scheme
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, exclusively for wii, same as above

sorry for my bad english

When it comes to accuracy, I think it certainly depends on the game. I mean, Skyward Sword's combat and level of precision is much easier to achieve with motion than with buttons, as opposed to say, Twilight Princess, where swinging the Wii Remote just results in a slash (in which case, it's not really precision as much as it is a short cut.)

But, for remapping, I think there's a way to turn those "Short Cut" gesture controls into button presses, isn't there? I remember watching a video on YouTube where the person mapped reloading a grenade, which usually took shaking the nunchuck, to a keystroke. I thought those settings were built into Dolphin? It wouldn't really work with a game that relies on directional gesture input, like Skyward Sword, but for a game that simply reads whether or not thr remote was shaken, like Twilight Princess, it should work fine.

Edit
Sorry, misread that last part. As far as I know, the only way to remap buttons/gestures on the Wii is on a game to game basis, and that's only if the game supports it. Games like Call of Duty and Medal of Honor usually do to some degree, but most games that rely on motion control as the main method of input do not.

So you are saying that a billion dollars research that led M$ to the creation, development and marketing of the xboxone with mandatory kinect is useless ?

Luckly, some games like Sonic Riders provide an alternative controls option using the GC controller (motion-sensors free).
The full list is here, obviously i'm not interested in listing those games...
