Tried it again and got the message:
ERROR: Can't change Mac: interface up or not permission: Invalid argument

I did everything as sudo
It's a lost hope, your card can't change the mac, some are limited to that, others are limited to not even allowing to make a access point

But i could change it under Backtrack... in Backtrack i didn't get the script to work...
Anybody knows how to change my driver for the wifi usb? perhaps my driver won't allow changing mac...

You are allowed to use a password. You won't be able to connect to Nintendo Zone with the app, but you should still get streetpasses. Just make sure you set up attwifi as a connection on your 3DS and enter the password. Then just close your 3DS and wait for a few minutes.

If this doesn't work, try using luyaoting method on this page. It's similar to the method using Virtual Router Manager, but it doesn't require it. And it's the same as in, it doesn't let you connect to the Nintendo Zone app, but that you'll still get SP's.

Okay, I've updated it. Turns out I used the wrong command - I set the mode to allow instead of starting it. Could you redownload from the post? Try if it works. Feel free to PM me or post here for feedback.

That version seems to work now. Thank you!

I combined it with the 3.1 version of that script. Works perfectly for me (both with ethernet cable and with just wi-fi... though with just wi-fi it breaks up my internet when it switches MAC).

Does the connection check succeed with your 3DS?

For everyone who wants to create an AP with Windows7/8
You need:
A. a computer/laptop/tablet with built-in wireless network card
or
B. a computer/laptop/tablet with a wifi USB dongle (wireless USB adapter)

(*Because of the limitation of WIN7/8, the second hex digit of the MAC must be 2, 6, a or e)
(*ethernet is unnecessary)
(*don't need any software to change MAC)
(*don't need any software to create hosted network with built-in wireless network card)

=>If you are using [A. a computer with built-in wireless network card]

Fist, change your MAC
1.open [Device Manager]
2.find your wireless network card under [Network adapters], and double click on it
3.click [Advanced] tab
4.select something like [Network Address] or [Locally Administered Address] in [Property]
section
5.select [Value:] and enter the MAC address you want ([Not Present] is the default)
6.press [OK]

Then, create a hosted network
1.
WIN7: press [Start], enter [cmd] and hit [Enter], right click on [cmd] and select [Run as
asministrator]
WIN8: open [charm bar], press [Search], enter [cmd], right click on [cmd] and select [Run as
asministrator]
2.input [netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=attwifi key=password](change "password"
to any passwork you want)
3.input [netsh wlan start hostednetwork]
(*you can input [netsh wlan stop hostednetwork] to turn off the hostednetwork)
(*you can input [netsh wlan show hostednetwork] to show the configure)
4.go to [Control Panel]=>([Network and Internet]=>)[Network and Sharing Center]
5.you will see [attwifi] there, it will show [Local Area Connetction*##] after [Connections:]
(## could be any number)
6.find the network which is connected to the Internet, click the words after [Connections:]
to open the status
7.click [Properties], click [Sharing] tab, check [Allow other network users to connect
through this computer's Internet connection], and select [Local Area Connetction*##] (the
connection of the hostednetwork[attwifi]) (maybe you don't need to select because you only
have two connections)
8.press [OK]

Finally, change your 3DS network settings
1.open your 3DS, open [System Settings], click [Internet Settings], search [attwifi] and
enter the passwork
2.close [System Settings]
Last step: turn your 3DS into sleep mode (suggest) and wait for streetpass!
(*you can't use nintendo zone app because your are using an AP with encryption)
(*your hosted network will stop automatically whenever you change your MAC)

=>If you are using [B. a computer with a wifi USB dongle (wireless USB adapter)]

Fist, change your wifi USB dongle's MAC
1.open [Device Manager]
2.find your wifi USB dongle under [Network adapters], and double click on it
3.click [Advanced] tab
4.select something like [Network Address] or [Locally Administered Address] in [Property]
section
5.select [Value:] and enter the MAC address you want ([Not Present] is the default)
6.press [OK]

Then, change your soft-ap's SSID to [attwifi]
you could either retain the encryption or remove the encryption
If you remove the encryption:
Just turn your 3DS into sleep mode (suggest) and wait for streetpass!
If you retain the encryption:
1.open your 3DS, open [System Settings], click [Internet Settings], search [attwifi] and
enter the passwork
2.close [System Settings]
Last step: turn your 3DS into sleep mode (suggest) and wait for streetpass!
(*you can't use nintendo zone app because your are using an AP with encryption)

==================================================================
Because I'm a Taiwanese (Chinese), it's hard for me to make this [HOW-TO]. Maybe there is
something that I didn't express clearly. I'll be glad if someone points out my mistakes.

Hi. I'm trying to use the method A., but when I reach the Sharing part (the step 7), the Local Area Connection (in my case, number *12) doesn't appear, only the wi-fi and the wired options. I have a Windows 8. What could be the problem?

You need to right click on the wired or wi-fi connection (depending on which connects to the internet). I think you're right clicking on the LAN connection, since both wi-fi and wired appear. If you click on wired, then only wi-fi and LAN will appear as sharing options. So:

- Right click on wired or wi-fi (whichever one connects to the internet), select properties
- Click the share tab
- Check the sharing option. Select LAN connection.

It worked, thanks. :)

Yeah, you can SP the same person multiple times. Once I passed someone 4 times in one go. A few times 3 or 2 times. It's because others are cycling through MACs as well. Anyway, I use the cycle script as well. Just set the time on what you prefer. I started off with roughly 5 minutes, but that took too long. So I made it 3 minutes... 2.5 minutes... then 90 seconds. It usually takes 60-70 seconds, but sometimes a bit longer. Though even with 90 seconds it can take too long, but if you don't mind it skipping sometimes without getting a pass, then that's a good number, IMO. Of course, the time could vary per person.

Best guess... this person is also using the cycle program and has it hit the MACs shortly before you do.

No, only if the 3DS is open it's pretty much constantly connected. If it's in sleep mode, it's not. I thought it connected like once every 5 minutes at first, but it seems closer to once every 30-60 seconds (and it looks for something to connect to for roughly 30 seconds... usually also shortly after closing the 3DS). The 3DS works this way to save power in sleep mode. If it finds something interesting, it connects and uploads/downloads a decent amount of data. If not, then it uploads and downloads just a tiny bit of data before going its own way again.

I have the same thing. Although I noticed the following:

The script changes the MAC, then resets the adapter and then restarts the virtual router manager. That's when my 3DS is unable to log into the WIFI, untill I change the password in the manager.

Yeah, it is. Did you check if the 3DS connection test is successful and that it connects both to the access point & internet?
And if you leave the 3DS open, the Nintendo Zone app should light up when it gets internet access (since it detects the attwifi SSID). You should get an error when you actually try connecting to Nintendo Zone though, since Nintendo Zone assumes there's no secuirity.

Anyway, if all works like that, just close your 3DS and wait for streetpasses. If you're still not getting them, it means that the MAC changes aren't coming through correctly and I recommend going through the steps of the setup again to be sure.
