Loving the entries so far! We have some real talent on the forums
Edit: No, it doesn't have to be 8 or 16 bit. Just as long as it can be recognized as sprite art. I don't expect everyone to know what the technical limitations are of the various consoles of those eras.
Well hello there fellow tempers! This is my entry for the contest.
It says in the rules that our sprite/pixel art needs to be original, but it doesn't say that it needs to be game related, so be aware that mine is NOT!
So:
1. I have a big passion for birds, any kind of birds, so I made a pixel art where some birds are chilling on a beautiful spring day!
2. I like to sew..Yes you read it right, I sew, and I'm proud of it! Some call it art, some call it a hobby or they can call it anyhow, I love to do it and it doesn't matter for me what it is!
I sew on a material called tammy or etamine or whatever are you calling it...whe call it etamine or goblin and you make X's most of the times and with those you make all the shapes and stuff.... blablabla...
So...I make all my projects and "illustrations" using old school markers and grid paper! I have proof and I can prove it, that it's all my work, so anyone who wants to verify just contact me and I'll prove it!
I have many projects done and all are still like new (almost)! I started learning sewing since I was in the 4th grade and since then I started mastering it and grew to love it!
I'll post multiple pictures to show you the project from different sizes and stuff...But I'll write it there which is my entry, so don't worry about multiple posts...
P.S.
For those who still want more proof I can post the source material if needed, in .psd format!
IMPORTANT!
Initially I wanted to upload the pics here on the site, but couldn't figure it out how to...
Until I figure it out, I'll use Photobucket to share, because there I have a whole album dedicated only for this!
Every help is highly appreciated!
Well Let Us begin!

TO ANYONE WHO DOESN'T REALIZES, EVERYTHING BEYOND THIS IS JUST AN EXTRA AND NOT FOR THE CONTEST!
I made some Specials for those who are interested!
This was the one I wanted to make my contest entry, but I figured that it would be rejected, due to some reasons, so I decided to go with the simple one!
Mainly I refused to use this, because the letters aren't entirely mine! I saw the style somewhere and decided to make my own pixel font thingy version....SO this is what came out of it...!
But if I get some extra bonus points for it I won't mind!

For those of you who still want more, I decided to edit/cut the pictures so that all of them can be a single picture and I made different sizes just for you to enjoy!

Well that's all folks! My the best win! I wish all of you luck and all good! There are a lot of great entries there so the contest is tight! If for some reason I get rejected then I wish you all luck again, but if my entry is eligible then as I said earlier, may the best win!
Especially Nuahel's and pyro's entries! Man those are on of the greatest entries ever! Look at all those details and colours! They sure deserve a separate prize!
I hope I didn't offended you two! Yuo know I'm joking!

I don't really have any other experience with other styles of spriting, (that are not based upon Pokemon or TWEWY or Phoenix Wright) so it's nice there's no restriction. That would essentially kick me out of the running if there was. If I tried a new thing and it ended up horribly, I wouldn't have a submission.
The 8/16bit restriction wouldn't effect the entries much, basically an 8-bit era sprite would usually be restricted to a 4-bit palette (16 colours, usually fixed to the system) whereas a 16-bit era sprite would usually have access to an 8-bit palette (256 colours, fully editable). I really don't see those restrictions making any difference. Sprite sizes wouldn't really com into it as most, if not all systems have overcome those limitations by using display tricks like redrawing and moving sprites during screen refresh etc.

Back when I tried my hands on making games (never really made any very complete games...) I made a sprite of a Chinese girl wearing a red dress that I was kind of satisfied with. Unfortunately I can't find any of my old project files anymore... So I tried to recreate the sprite somewhat from memory:
The legs/feet didn't turn out too well... Though admittedly I was never much of an artist (more of a coder), so I guess even the old sprite might not have been much better than this one. I probably won't have time to adjust the sprite much before the contest deadline, so I'll just leave this here.
Here's my entry... Brian Griffin doing the Peanut Butter Jelly Time dance!
Not sure how big this will show up, did it in paint zoomed, then did a screenshot and a paste to keep the pixel effect.... so I'm putting it in a spoiler tag wasn't always displaying for me, so here it is directly:
Story: a friend of mine wanted to create his own pokémon version a long time ago (something a gave up on later...) and asked me to help him create some new pokémon. So he gave me a bunch of sprites and using paint I managed to create some new designs/Pokémon. This one is based of the sprites extracted from Houndoom and I edited it to make it look like the legendary Fenrir wolf. So there you have it.
I hope that new guys are allowed to enter this compo, I don't think I read anything that says I can't.
If I'm wrong, I apologize.
My entry
It's the old man from the box art of Phalanx, for the SNES

I'm sorry, first post and I've done went and screwed it up. I somehow misread the BOLD print in the entry rules that said that existing works weren't allowed. Very sorry about that!
I do have a sprite I've been working on, I'll finish it up and post it instead, If that's alright?
EDIT
The sprite I'm working on may not be finished by the end of this contest, so I guess I'll enter this scrap from a while back
Its a soldier with a shotgun.
If I finish my other sprite, I'll trade it out.
As far as I know, it's wrong. A animation can be also considered a sprite.
"a sprite is a two-dimensional image or animation that is integrated into a larger scene. Initially including just graphical objects handled separately from the memory bitmap of a video display, this now includes various manners of graphical overlays." - Wiki
But if this contest asks for only one image sprite, then ok. (I may try doing something for this contest too ..let's see how it goes )
