"Your reputation score will ultimately see you slotted into one of three, colour-coded groups: “Good Player” (green), “Needs Improvement” (yellow), or “Avoid me” (red). Where you sit on this spectrum will be reflected on your gamer card."

Now correct me if i'm wrong but this just seems immensely trollable
Say if I had a game, on oh I dont know... CoD?
And someone steals my kill (OH NOES) I can spam anti-rep against them and have them branded as a "red player"
I see what the point is, and I see how it can be useful. But I highly doubt good gamers would take the time out of their lives to report people, they'd just ignore them.
This may just turn out the same as games like League of Legends where people spam: REPORT THIS N00B OMG every game.

Although
"The reputation algorithm is sophisticated enough to recognise when it may be being abused, confirming you will not be penalised for a few bad reports."

There is the chance that they could police this properly, and it will be great if they did. But if "Rep-Trolling" becomes big, the system may not be able to keep up.
But basically, if you get trolled one day, and rage at someone the next... You could see a hint of yellow creeping up on you.
The new system may also take into account current rep on Xbox Live, so if you have a history of raging. You wont be seeing green one XBO

so, xbox one fans...
how long can you stay green?

This is stupid, Don't games have certain features that show how good or bad you are like a win/loss ratio or something like that. "Because I want to waste my time giving some one else a good rep while my rep might look like shit"

I've never really liked the system on the original xbox. I don't have a mic and people still submit bad reviews on me for stuff that isn't even possible like trashtalking. The system is pretty dumb, cause people can just rate you badly when you win. I'm at about a 47% approval rating, and I doubt that they can police it well due to the sheer volume of reports that will occur.

Ooh algorithms.

Paying to be abused was never my thing (though this looks like it could be a positive move I am going with the "once burned, twice shy" mindset) and competition so rarely interests me so I doubt I will be on live at any point soon but I do eagerly await a breakdown of the algorithm.

I am trying to think how I would pull things off.
As you say troll potential is high so rating the raters probably figures in there.
The outliers would probably want to be sorted -- if a person largely gets positive feedback and the person giving feedback gives the opposite and routinely gives the opposite then....
Alternatively or perhaps in addition to there might be a calibration/dead zone ("everybody is allowed one").
Incidence rates of feedback might be interesting, as you intimate "nobody offers positive feedback" and depending upon the culture nobody likes to complain (going by trips to the US if I had to work with food there some of the would be customers would likely get a headbutt about 20 minutes in). I wonder how the weighting might be skewed there.
The level of automation/retention might be interesting. Anonymous feedback systems, such as they only kind of exist, have serious downsides and the fully vetted "spy for every spy" type things are an awful lot of work. Wonder if there will be moderator/gm types to check out and bias results one way or another.

Question too. Will there be incentives/rewards for maintaining green status and if so will that require upkeep (can I have a dummy account that is always green or does it have to put so many hours in).

Anyway theory coding is probably the worst type of coding so I will tie it off there.

I think if they monitor it, it could work out nicely. If not, then I can see people getting spammed for raging, trolling, or even just being too good. If you play a game and completely rape the opponents, I'm pretty sure there are assholes that will give you bad rep just for being a good player.

As a big green mother from outer space (who is, I assure you, quite bad), I'm green and mean. How will Xbox Live's new system handle a player like myself?

You get brown.

Also, it's not as if you won't ever be able to play the game again if you're red. Just means everyone else will know you're a stupid 12 year old who likes to fuck mothers.

I'd intentionally go red if I didn't normally.

I loved getting negative rep. Friends and I always compared negative rep on XBL. That's why whenever I gave people bad rep I did it for like...quitting games or something. Something not actually good. I got lots of negative rep for harassment, haha. Apparently Halo players didn't enjoy my spartan junk in their face every single time I murdered them.

The only way this kind of system works is if you are forced to give rep, and you gain something for giving good rep. That's all. If you don't gain anything from giving good rep, then there's no mativation to give it. nobody would give a care.

While I agree the execution should be done carefully to avoid abuse, the idea itself is pretty good. In fact, when thinking back on extra credits' video on harrasment, I'm supporting it absolutely.

In some ways I agree. In others I have to say something like have you seen likes, medals, trophies, achievements, subscriptions, feedback forms/moderator forms, guest books.... all of them pointless in my estimation but people go nuts for them (I say this as a web developer, as a moderator of sites, as an observer of such things and as a cynical bastard). Similarly the issue of bias in the system and engagement with the system, beyond what I just mentioned, is a long studied and arguably somewhat solved problem in marketing and related fields.
Likewise I would be surprised if there is not a kind of hidden incentive to give feedback -- doing so labels you one that engages with the system and thus makes for an easier time.

I think my rep on Xbox 360 is pretty shitty, due to the fact that I have little brothers that scream in the mic when I let them play black ops on my profile :/
I'll try and go for better rep when I play on Xbone ^_^

Well, I can say for sure that this isn't going to end wel..

Kids still play on COD online, hell even 8 year olds play it.
And iirc, the game was 16+
MS doesn't allow underaged people on mature games online but they don't do jack about it.

First reaction, 'oh right, like the Xbox Live community needs even more ways to be a dick to each other.'

This sounds as good an idea as allowing George Lucas access to a pen these days.
