depends really for example if your out and about alot and would like to have monster hunter with you or are you satisfied with just playing at home. I for example love playing MH3U on 3ds xl because i like to play in bed before dozing off :D.

The Barroth wasn't really a challenge. Beat him on my first try. Using the switch-axe btw.

Also, question. Cha-cha has different masks, right? And I have to forge those masks from different materials. Do I get the materials from monsters on quests or from Moga Forest? And what mask do you guys suggest? I'm still on my third hunter rank, unlocked the urgent quest.

yea, barroth is pretty easy, and SA's are decent weps to use, decent atk and all that. and yes cha-cha does have different masks, some require materials from monsters you hunt. as well as some monsters you hunt end up coming to the moga woods. for instance you can make a qurupeco mask, which requires some materials from that very monster. other include the lantern mask which require you break the gobul's lantern. and there is a story specific mask, the Ancient Mask that requires you to have various materials from lagiacrus and "fish" Sharqs. and then there are masks like the grill mask, which requires you to trade with the argosy captain to get the double bbq spit. these are just a few of the masks you can make, and there are many more. when ever you see a [...} bubble over cha-cha's head, it means that he has an idea for a new mask, and you go talk to junior for the details.

as for mask suggestions, all depends on what you want them to do, if you want an extra inventory slot but still want to cook, use the grill mask. for quick air under water without the need for oxygen supply, ancient mask. or just use a mask with multible ability slots and choose abilites according to the next monster you going to hunt or all around prefrence like giving poison atk and affinity boost. I personally set mask abilities to what ever the next monster im going to fight is. or sometimes I just set it to poison or slime atk and atk boost.

Awesome kill of the ivory lagi.

I just forged the dios slicers, and I'm having a blast with them (I'm sorry for the pun!). Dios is not that hard, just annoying. All I had to do was roll into his legs to avoid the explosions, and roll to the side. (I ended up capping him twice in order to get the stuff for his slicers.) I might go for the sword and shield combo next.

Also - I managed to kill the three 'nox in a row. It was a narrow thing, although. I ended up not having any stamina recovery items, and the last one ended up poisoning me. The antidote herbs didn't work, and I ended up noticing that it was roaring too much. I then run up to it, and start wailing on it. It dies, just two seconds after the 10 minute warning pops up.

Just attempted to slay Jhen Mohran again. Didnt succeed, although it was flinching like crazy from the attacks on it's arms. (I managed to blow open both his weak spots on his back, and tear up both arms.) I end up repelling it - bye, Jhen! The rewards screen pops up, and I find a deep dragongem in the rewards. I head back to the village, and I absentmindedly check Cha-Cha (he's wearing the mock melynx mask). He has a couple of fins and another deep dragongem. Really, Cha-Cha? I didn't need that, but okay...:)

I LOVE the Mock Melynx mask. its just so awesome! though with cha-cha in Melynx and Kyamba in felyne mask, I end up being blown away with random explosions lol. congrats on the repelling, that thing is one hell-of-a dragon.

Lol. I stopped using the felyne mask; it seriously annoyed me. (I use db, and seriously, the times that he blows me up when I am doing the dragon dance.) Second time repelling the thing. It seriously annoyed me because it managed to nail me several times when I was on the rope. Argh!

Yep, I had the same problem with that quest. I ended up using a water blade on it and bringing along some dung bombs to deter the things it summons! Annoying little beastie it is.

Hey, I've just joined the forum cause I was lurking for some time and saw that you have nice MH3U conversation here. As far as I know the only mandatory capture quest is Arzuros, I don't like capturing so I was skipping them (will probably come back later when I have Capture Guru + better weapons). I'm right before Ceadeus, so I can only speak for low rank village.
On the weapon topic, I'm using Long Swords and Hammers. I'm happy with their DPS and breaking potential, but I'm considering making some Switch Axes. Will does add anything to my arsenal or is the weapon too similar to Long Sword?

I still hardly touched Switch Axes, I wound up going back to hammers and just plowing through low ranks and high ranks.

I love the SA. its a great weapon IMO. I only use hammers for Gigginox and the Rath's. for some reason I just love knocking them out lol.

Arzuros is pretty easy to capture. He visibly limps and drools. Ceadeus is okay, it's just a very long fight. (There is no reason to bring the Ancient Mask - you can use oxygen supplies and there are oxygen sources down in the fight.) First, break it's beard - it will swim in a long straight way. This will make it rush to the last part of the fight. If you time out and get "you have repelled the monster", you can take the same quest again to kill it. You can jump off the shortcut near the camp..and it will bring you immediately to the fight with the repelled Ceadeus.

I might try out hammers - I've been happy with the dodging capabilities of dual swords, and the sns. I sometimes use greatsword - it's good for breaking things...:)

Hammer are great, but it took some adjustments after playing with long range LSs. I wanted to play DS, but constant need to sharpen discouraged me. I know I can get a faster sharpening, slower dulling sets, but I can't be bothered yet. I've spent some time hunting Rathalos and Lagiacrus yesterday and it made me rethink my plans for the game. One of the biggest appeal of the game for me (other than fighting big-ass monsters) is the collection/customization of weapons and armors. My initial plan was to collect most armor sets for the monsters I like to fight, but then I saw Plate drops and decided to just rush through Low and High rank focusing on weapons upgrade and start collecting stuff once I hit G.

Just did the village quest - "it's clobbering time". An Agnaktor, Volvidon, and a Rathalos. I intended to capture all three. Was wearing Pleisoth armour, and wielding the dios slicers. The agnaktor was giving me trouble, and just slapped me silly - I had used 8 potions, and he starts to limp when I'm trying to whack off it's tail. It dies mid-swing, and I end up wandering around until I find the Volvidon. It's in area five, the area with a ton of respawning mining areas. I start wailing on it, and it manages to poop on me. I think I'm in trouble until I see it start drooling. I end up setting up a shock trap, and getting licked in the process (eeeeeeeewww...Volvidon cooties!), and he walks right into it. I toss two tranqs, and he's out like a light. Again, I start wandering the map looking for 'Los. I almost run into Rathian, but it flies off without bothering me. I get annoyed, and I'm hungry and low on stamina. I wander back to base camp, grab a couple of rations of the box, and notice the psychoserums. I end up eating two rations, and taking a nap to restore both kids. I end up taking a psychoserum, and see a vision of the Rathalos entering the watery area of the volcano. I shake off the effects and run into the area. Right now I'm thinking...oh shit, because if it calls the Rathian, I don't have any antidotes on me. I fight 'Los for a while and get annoyed at the fact that it isn't limping at all. Just as the clock hits the thirty minute mark, I end up taking it out with a strike that removes it's tail. I then carve the tail, just to find mega potions...

I'm absent-mindedly checking the almost full rewards screen, when I notice a new icon on the rewards. It's red and I think, "Oh, a Rathalos part? Cool." I check it out, and it's a Rathalos Ruby. Now why can't I get a single freaking Brachy gem? (I want to make Dios Slicers+ and the skirt piece of armour!)

@ Moczan - lower rank DS have terrible sharpness. I was using Great Wroggi armour up 'til HR village. (It has razor sharp - which takes reduces the need to sharpen.) Right now I'm saving up for Brachy armour and probably gemming in more sharpener skills or similar.
