Great review, though I'm slightly confused by the GBA performance. Is GBA performance really slighly better with the lite version ? mem cards won't make a difference (apart from initial loading times perhaps). Could it be you have different settings on in the the clients ?

thanks fos much FifthE1ement, great review, makes my recent order of the SCL seem like a good idea for sure now (i was worried i made the wrong decision not cause SCL is crap, but because M3 lite could be better and considering its coming out soon, i could've waited an extra week or two)but now i dont care, i dont think M3 would have anything that much better on this card, i had feared for GBA support but it seems ot be fine, cant wait till i get mine.

Memory bandwidth has been greatly improved which is why GBA games now load and save twice as fast as previous models. I have also tried different settings and it didn't make much of a difference.

heya great review... just one thing that i wanna know...
How is battery life using a nopass device and the Supercard Lite compared to normal DS Lite battery life?

Guess it is the only thing left to consider before i make a decision to purchase or not... =)

but yah, great review ^.^

Its exactly the same as my SuperCard miniSD version. Here are the results from ImmortalNinja on scdev forum:

QUOTE said:
Ok did a proper test this time with all the same settings.
And it clocked in at 4hrs 22Mins.
So in summary so far:

All using the same SuperCard MiniSD and the same battery leaving SuperMarioKart
Full Brightness and max vol through headphones:

UnFLashed DS
Orginal Cart: 5hrs 10Mins
SuperKey in DS Slot: 4hrs 15Mins
SuperKey Removed: 4hrs 22Mins

FLASHED DS
DS Slot Empty: 4hrs 20 Mins
DS Slot with Cart: 4hrs 24 Mins
Using SuperCard Lite: 4hrs 24 Mins

So I conclude that having a flashed ds or superKey makes bugger all difference to battery life during normal play...for my DS.
I'm quite sure it makes a difference to the sleep mode though.
Not sure how I'm going to test that unless the difference is significantly different.....

KK

edit - Not as controlled as I would like, but I guess I could put the DS in sleep mode over night and then see how long the battery lasts coming back to the game in the morning.

My results were just a tad over his but I guess they would be the same depending on how you played it.

Enjoy,

Gambia, The
Nice review. I respect your effort and hard work on this... but somehow i don't trust you on all the 10/10's.
You also sayed that your miniSD has no slowdown at all (compared with your original games) and now you say its much slower than the SCLite. Remember?

With my SuperCard miniSD and ATP 150X 2GB miniSD all games even Animal Crossing and the Castlevania movie run flawless.
I'll be sticking with DS Phat, SuperCard miniSD, PassCard3, and ATP ProMax 150X 2GB miniSD! I have no slowdown in Animal Crossing or in Tony Hawk, and my Castlevania test is flawless with perfect video and audio.
QUOTE(FifthE1ement @ Jul 28 2006, 03:03 AM)So yes there has always been some slowdown with a 66X miniSD on the SuperCard miniSD. With 150X you have no slowdown what-so-ever on the SuperCard miniSD.
Maybe it would be better to give us the times you have stopped and not a personal opinion (10/10 rating).

The SuperCard Lite was rated against the miniSD version and once I tested them side-by-side I could tell the difference. I still say with the SuperCard miniSD the slowdown is almost undetectable but it can't computer with the SuperCard Lite which removes it altogether. I think the SuperCard miniSD and a fast miniSD s the best choice for a user that still has a Phatty but if you have a Lite the "Lite" version is the way to go.

You can bust my balls about it but when you are using the SuperCard miniSD version it seems like you have no slowdown as you have nothing to compare it to. But once you get the SuperCard Lite and put them side by side you can see how much slowdown there really is. It’s all about perspective and you don't know how much you were really missing until something better comes along; and boy is the SuperCard Lite better!

I really like the amount of work that went into this review -- that's some good stuff. I'm not gonna lie, if I wasn't a huge G6 fanboy and hadn't already picked up the G6 Lite your review would be swaying me toward a SuperCard Lite even after swearing the shit off after so many less-than-perfect experiences. I disagree a bit with you about not being able to pick up on slowdown unless you've seen better -- I feel like it can be pretty obvious, but I also feel like a lot of gamers are blind and plead ignorance in order to pledge support for the product that they purchased.

I'd be interested to compare the performance of a whole mess of games on the SC Lite vs. my G6 Lite to see if I can still spot the discrepencies. A SuperCard with perfect playback (even using high-speed microSD media) strikes me as simply too good to be true at this price point. Your review has piqued my interest, though!

I do find myself staring at something strange, comparing other reviews.

Cons:

- Hard to pull out of the DS Lite.
- No transparent glossy layer like the DS Lite dust cover.
- GBA performance could be improved.
- Should support FAT32 by now.
- No extra cart colors as of yet.
- Menu system is dated.
- No RTC feature.
- No internal battery.
- NDS GBA linkage function needs work.
- Since microSD slot is front loading it could fall out.
- Doesn’t work in the DS Phat.
- GBA saving is tricky for newcomers.

Example, g6
- Pulls out easy
- Top GBA performance
- 4 Colour cases
- Touchscreen menu, Fast boot up, etc.
- Internal Battery
- Internal memory
- Works in DS phat
- Easy saving system.

..And when you compare the cons of it, the list is ''very small'' compared to it.
How comes everything still get's a nine then.

No hard feelings but, their should be a number to compare, if it all gets 9, 9 , 9, it's like all equal

As performance, the G6 Lite vs the SuperCard Lite: I have played both and the SuperCard Lite edges out the G6 Lite when using high speed flash media. Its performance was overall smoother and load times were shorter. Other users have also had this opion when comparing them using high speed microSD memory but I suggest you try it out for yourself. I can tell you the SuperCard Lite is everything the G6 Lite is but better since it can store 10X the amount of games!

As for the bullet points, most don't interfere with gameplay as they are cosmetic problems.

Here is a list of my cons of the G6 Lite from my flashcart and homebrew guide since you only posted the :

G6 Lite

Cons:

- 4Gbit (512MB) is the biggest size and it’s not expandable.
- Memory size makes movies and music almost impossible with games.
- Lite version is available in different colors but there's no guarantee what you'll get in the box.
- NDS GBA linkage function needs work.
- Slow writing speed.
- Software isn’t as easy to use as competing flashcarts.
- Menu is clunky and slow.
- You can easily make a mistake formatting and the recovery software isn't that helpful.
- Poor homebrew support.
- Corruption is starting to appear in many users G6 Lites rendering saves unusable.
- Its one of the most expensive flashcarts.

The review itself is lengthy and it's obvious you put a lot of work into it. Nice job. but another thing that is obvious (even before you wrote that review) is that you're a supercard fanboy so i can't take your review as one of an objective reviewer.

Because the cards got a good score, the reviewer is a fanboy ? The fact that it runs DS games superbly doesn't matter ? Whi9ch is the most important thing for a flash cart these days.

There is certainly no shortage of M3/G6 fanboys at this site.

Too bad the G6 Lite has a slow, god-awfully ugly interface. Too bad the G6 lite is limited to 512MB.

These two factors take primacy over all of the other stuff you mentioned, except of course GBA support. SC lite needs better GBA support and they should've gone FAT32 by now.

SC should've had all their non-working GBA games compatible before they switched over to DS development which was like a year and a half worth of time..

Note: I'm not talking about slowdown in games since that's the fault of the crappy ram romman used for the intial Supercards, but I'm referring to those few that simply won't work and still don't to this date..

I mean they're super fast and efficient fixing DS games.. What the heck is up with their carefree GBA support that was supposed to be the main foundation of the Supercard when it was first introduced?

Sorry no, DS is and was their main focus with the SuperCard. I don't play that many GBA games but the ones I have tried and do play often work great. The SuperCard seems to get a bad rep about its GBA compatibility even though it is not nearly as bad as everyone says it is.

The Supercard came out a little less than a year before the DS came out

They didn't start DS development until 6 months later around the same time as the M3/G6 initial release..

Don't give me that BS that DS is their main focus since the beginning, it WAS a GBA Flashcart first and foremost before they ditched it for the next best thing..
