So, I tried it in both FF and IE and the list doesnt appear to be sortable by region, clicking that does nothing. Otherwise, it's really nice.

If you use the offlinelist program and the 3ds dat, you can sort them by region.

Does someone actually know why they were dumping if nothing existed to play these roms before gateway 3ds?

Because ROMs aren't just for playing free games. They're for archival too.

You are right but what is the point of archiving your roms if you can't use these backups?

And they dumped because they can.
I can pretty much sympasize with doing a tech project like developing a 3DS ROM Dumper just for the hell of it and Internet "fame".

it's not for personal archiving, it's for archiving in general. There's many (non-3DS) games that you cannot get and play anymore because they went out of production and there's no known surviving copies. If they had ROM dumps they would still exist.

So people will dump games even if you can't play them because ROMs are not just for playing.

And also it is good to have some test data when developing a flash cartridge. Having ROM dumps makes experimenting with cracking the signing/encryption and emulating a real cart much easier.
Maybe not a priority for the guy(s) who built the dumper (forgot who it was), but it was very likely that some day there'll be a flash cart for 3DS, and here we are.

Generally you need to backup things while they are available.
When you need to restore them its to late.

Can't get 3DScrc Renamer to detect roms? what does the nameing convention have to be for the .3ds files to be detected?

Note: I have set the path to the folder where all the roms are.

You might have to have them zipped.

yes, like mickcris said, zip them first then use the rename feature.
If you use uncompressed 4GB+ file, they will get corrupted or could be deleted.

that's what the download page and the known bug page SAID IN RED.

REMEMBER TO ALWAYS USE COPIES OF YOUR ROMS WHEN RENAMING

DON'T REBUILD 4,00 GB (4294967296 byte) 32768 Mbit ROMS OR LARGER, JUST ZIP THEM FIRST AND RENAME ONLY ARCHIVES (Settings/Misc/"Check" Only rename archive) OTHERWISE IT WILL BE CORRUPT AND/OR DELETED This is because the zip library cost money to support this

WE RECOMMENED THAT YOU ZIP ALL YOUR ROMS FIRST, BEFORE RENAMING AND THEN SELECT ONLY RENAME ARCHIVE , AS IT IS MUCH FASTER.

The last few new rom release's, I can't find on the internet, do there release the NFO first and then put them on the internet at a later date? (NOTE: I'm not asking for roms).

The dumpers don't put the releases on websites at all. They put them on usenet/groups or something, then other people from there will often download the dumps and put them on various websites whenever they feel like it.

That will take a long time to rename, much faster with have them zipped
If you want to rename .3ds files without zip them first you have to check in "settings-URL/PATH-Search also for.3ds files" and also your roms must be in 3Un folder that 3DScrc made when you added Storage Path and all will be renamed and moved to 3Cl folder if accepted by the database (that goes for ziped roms also) But don't do this with 4GB (32Gbit) roms as mentioned before, they will get deleted if rebuilded, so they should be zipped and only renamed

@Pong: Not sure if this has been mentioned and if you take care of the essh.co list, but the sort by region doesn't seem to work. All other sorting methods do though.
