Posting a System Check

Users can link to this guide so they don't have to write instructions on posting a SysCheck over and over. This is not a place to post your SysChecks, it's just a guide.

Creating a SysCheck.
  1. Extract the contents of SysCheckME.zip to the apps folder on your SD card or USB Hard Drive.
  2. Insert your SD card or USB Hard Drive into your Wii and turn it on.
    1. If you don't have an SD card or USB, you can still launch SysCheck as long as the Wii has WiFi. Just open SysCheck's boot.dol with ModMii (e.g. drag and drop syscheck's boot.dol onto ModMii.exe)
  3. Load the Homebrew Channel.
  4. Launch SysCheck ModMii Edition and choose to scan all IOS's.
  5. If SysCheck is stuck on one IOS for more than 5 seconds, it's frozen. Make not of the number it froze on and see Troubleshooting.
  6. Once it's done, press HOME to exit.
    1. Or Press A to upload your syscheck to the cloud. This is useful if you don't have an SD card or USB Hard Drive.
Posting your SysCheck.
  1. Turn off your Wii and put your SD card or USB Hard Drive into your computer.
  2. Open up "device:\syscheck.csv" with notepad
  3. Press Ctrl+A to select everything. Now press Ctrl+C to copy everything.
  4. Make a new post (in the appropriate thread) and create spoiler tags. Click between the "][" like so:
    SysCheckSpoilersNew.gif

  5. Press Ctrl+V to paste the contents of syscheck.csv between the spoiler tags.
  6. Save your post.
Troubleshooting
  1. Open up the SysCheck ModMii Edition meta.xml file with a text editor, preferably Notepad++ or Wordpad.
  2. Look for the "<arg>--skipIOS=0</arg>" line near the bottom of the file.
  3. Change the "0" to the IOS SysCheck HDE froze on.
  4. Save your changes and try running it again. If you are prompted about loosing format changes, save anyway.
  5. If it freezes on another IOS, duplicate the previously mentioned line in meta.xml and add the new IOS number.

Same result, including the dead controllers. I'm sure it's connected to the problem I'm having getting mario kart to work in cfg. I even reran ModMii on it hoping it would fix the issue but no luck there either.

It's a bug in SysCheck, although I believe the cause is unknown.

Try deleting Mario Kart and re-ripping it. It sounds like a bad dump.

I'll try a redump, thanks. It just struck me odd that the only two games I'm having issues with are both showing as needing IOS36 in Wii Backup Manager. Anyway, thanks for the suggestions.

Version 2.1.0.b15

* Report upload feature
* Some bugfixes in base IOS detection
* Fixed some typos in some languages
* Added detection for region changed Wiis, thanks Joostinonline

Edit: I also updated the Dop-Mii screenshot to remind people that they should mention what IOS's SysCheck froze on.

You've probably got a bad IOS. Try scanning the IOS's individually. Most likely one of them will make it freeze. If it does, the re-install that IOS by downloading a wad from ModMii.

I've tried using it once on my sister's Wii that I was soft-modding for her. It would go on it's business checking things then the suddenly the BootMii screen pops up....Is it supposed to do that?

BootMii basically pops up and that essentially ends whatever checking sysCheck was doing. So I just tell BootMii to boot back to Wii menu which it does with no problem.

There was a log file of some kine it placed on root of the SD card but only had like 5 lines of text describing what it was doing before BootMii popped up. Didn't seem to be very informative at all.

EDIT: Here's what little information it did save to SD card before BootMii mysteriously interrupted it:

Code:
sysCheck v1.6.2 by Erik Spyder

Region: NTSC-U
The system menu v513 is running under IOS58 (rev 6176)
Hollywood v0x11
Console ID: 106105461
Boot2 v4
Found 86 titles
Found 32 IOS on this console
Found 14 IOS Stubs on this console

BootMii isn't randomly popping up either. It only came up on it's own when using sysCheck. This is the IOS version of BootMii since the Wii is a post 2008 production unit. (but still has the drive that can read DVD-R/DVD+R)

As far as I can tell the Wii is running fine though. Dios-Mios Lite works, CFG Loader works fine on both Wii and GameCube games, and even the forwarder channels I installed for a couple of the homebrew apps also work.

All the home-brew I put on for her works. I even got the shop channel working by manually updating it. Looks like her Wii was up to date, but just didn't have the November update for the shop channel yet but remedied that quickly. Only hiccup was the WiiFlow refused to boot Wii games. Would just either get a black screen or it would go back to the Wii menu. Odd since the alternate loader I tried worked fine. Oh and I got PriiLoader installed and it's working as well. The hacks I enabled worked as well. (just enabled update blocks and disabled health screen)

Wii also plays retail discs just fine. So maybe I'm overthinking it. :P

I saw this guide thinking "Do people really need a guide for this?" but seeing that there are issues with some versions freezing makes me think that instead of a guide being made for this some improvements need to be made to sysCheck.
I too had it freezing near the end of the check and think it may have been freezing on IOS254 (BootMii) but can't remember for sure.
But for the time being this is a useful guide. Just have to make sure people link to it when they ask people to run a sysCheck :P
