I've been playing with my G6 all week. This is my first flashcart for my ds lite. I've noticed a significant amount of battery loss. I havent' been playing it a lot, but i've had it sleeping. And just sleepign its burning a ton of battery life.

I'm used to letting it sleep for days without having a battery problem. But now it seems to be sucking it down.

I read somewhere that hte g6 lite take practically NO battery life, and that if you wanted to, you could flash the DS with FlashMe to let you use the system without the Passcard3 in order to save battery life.

Is this true? Should I flash the Ds Lite, so i dont have to use my Passcard anymore? Will this really save battery life? Has anyone had any experience with this?

Also, is there anything ineed to know about flashing? How different is it dealing with a flashed DS rather than just using this simple Passcard3?

thanks guys!

The debate whether or not a passcard will take more battery will never end as no one has done a conclusive test. you can flash your DS, but you need a retail DS cart in the slot to sleep.

It may be the Passme, try taking it out once your G6 boots up, but you won't be able to use sleep mode.

The fact that you can remove your passcard after booting shows that it is not needed any more and will not drain your battery life.
Booting up your system with a passcard should not use noticable (does this word exist? sorry for my poor english;)) power either.
Sounds good to me, but maybe im totally wrong for some reason.

But it DOES show that it still reads off the DS slot, thus possibly still draining the battery. How else do you explain that sleep mode works with a DS card in but does not when there isn't?

Plus removing the passme when ingame did result in an insta-crash for me with my unflashed DS.
Also when I flashed them I gained around 30-60minutes of gameplay. (This difference my perception, not measured.)
So I think we can pretty safely say that the Passcard is acessed during gameplay, and thats the GBA slot plus an NDS game plus the passme device = power drain. Also the G6 lite draws a tiny bit more power (Again 20-45minutes of difference from my tests - no big deal, but it adds up as you see....) than originals, due to the fact that it uses the NDS's battery to charge its own internal save-battery.

Also please notice that until further updates the G6 does not care for sleep mode - its internal battery will charge still and drain your DS until it's fully charged. G6 team said something about 6-8hours for a full charge.

ahh, ok, so thats what it is. So basically, if you have it sleeping throughout the day, it should be fine. but just go ahead and shut it off at night, or it will spend all night sucking the life out of our battery.

Did they say if this could be taken care of in an update?

Ok, so last night I flashed my DS Lite and i'm back to report.

I flashed the ds, and am using a retail cart to allow it to sleep. I played a bunch last night, then set it to sleep over night. By morning, my battery was still completely full! Not half, not 3/4, FULL.

Using the g6 lite + passcard3, the ds wouldn't even last over night in sleep mode. THe battery would completely drain.

So, If you'd like to get your long lasting battery back, i'd suggest flashing your DS, its way worth it.

The retail game does not do whatever the passcard does when inserted. That passcard is doing something very nasty. Cause my battery life is back up to normal again.

I just remove the passcard as soon as the G6 menu comes up. Haven't had a crash yet. (but I've only tested 6 DS Games). I can even remove it when a game is running without crashes (Castlevania DOS and Tetris).

The only drawback I've seen so far is that you can't go into sleep mode with the passcard removed.

That's an interesting result seven5. I was worried that it was the G6 internal battery that was causing your DS battery drain, but it sounds like that isn't the problem after all.

I wonder if some pass-devices are better than others. Hopefully there's one that acts much the same as a retail game. Some people would rather not flash their consoles.

seven5: Why didnt you just start the DS with Passcard3 and then when executed a game, remove Passcard3 and replace it with a regular DS-game, then put it to sleep and see if it would last.

Can someone try this?

If you go through the trouble of removing the passcard, you might as well flash the DS

Removing the passcard gives me finger exercise. I need more muscles anyway.

I am not hardware inclined enough to risk bricking something by having to open the unit and short something just to flash a bios.
PC Motherboard flashing=no problem. Having to short stuff= problem. for me, at least.

Not everyone here is technically minded as others....
You did see what happened in the other user's post, didn't you? I'm also nervous and unsteady with hands. Sorry--no bricked DS for me.

I've definatly been against flashing my ds due to the fact that I don't want to brick it, that would make me beyond sad. But if flashing+retail card=happier longer living ds i may have to do it. I'll reserve judgement until I get my hands on my own flash card but I'll keep this in mind.

Sleep mode works fine if you replace the passcard with a regular game.
Of course -removing- the game causes an instacrash

So, basically:
1) Removing the passcard (or a regular DS Game) when a DS game is already running through the G6=crash
2) Removing the passcard before loading a DS game= fine (but no sleep mode, but also no excess battery drain).
3) you can then reinsert the card or a regular game for sleep mode again. I don't know how the regular DS game affects battery life or not, though.
