Of course it's old news. And I think it makes sense when you think about it. They probably had Vita plans and they canceled when it didn't look favorable. Tabata said their plans are getting a clean slate. It's rather sad.

It seems insane at this point though, with the dub fully paid for and completed (and so presumably the entire game translation). Unless there's some factor we don't know about, the cost of completing it and using a digital only release, should surely be less than the profits they'd get back.

Since they're not releasing it now we have to assume that at some point they intend to do something with it.

Collector's Edition? Maybe... I can see it.

Unlikely as that implies the increased cost of a physical release, which given it's a PSP game implies two UMD's, which rules out the Vita (the primary portable focus)

Digital only means a much cheaper associated cost than physical. It just remains to be seen whether they intend to beef up the game and release it in a revised Vita form, or just wait it out for something else. I'd have thought even as a PSP game it'd be attractive to Vita owners so it's really confusing why it'd be left in the can.

I think a International version was in the works but I think the problem is viable platform and how to get it out there with favorable sales.

I made the changes from "Empire" to "Imperial" and checked it in.

I started looking at the character profiles doc that Hakurou translated. That will take me a while, so I marked it on the tracking doc that I'm editing it.

Mostly it's just changing "L'cie" to "l'Cie", but there are some passages that Hakurou commented that he's not too sure about. I don't know enough to know either, so I will avoid making a choice. I'll make my edits and check it in, but I'll make a note on the tracking doc that we should revisit it.

It's really cool that this was discovered and I really hope a fan translation does get done (or Square DOES stop being stupid and just translate it themselves... a proffesional team could get it done within a few weeks and they wouldn't even have production costs because they could release it as a download only title but what the hell ever). Anyway, I skimmed through some of the earlier comments and as much as I'm looking forward to a translation, please.. for the love of GOD don't fan dub it... fan dubs are the easiest way to ruin just about any project anywhere.
Judging from the current dedication of the team. I don't think this project will die. :)

As long as I'm around you have nothing to fear. I may be useless but if I have to, in the future I will take the Japanese language and cram it into my bone comprised skull if need be. By the Crystal's Grace I promise thee. The only question is time. And that I cannot foresee.

Well, Front Mission 2089 was developed with English interface and localization, but never get a US release. And there are also antecedents of Square-Enix/SquareSoft games partially translated, or with translation almost done, but never released outside Japan: Final Fantasy II (Famicom), Seiken Densetsu III (Famicom), Front Mission (Super Famicom), Bahamut Lagoon (Super Famicom), Front Mission - Gun Hazard (Super Famicom), Front Mission 2 (PSone)...

Sorry for the offtopic. And nice work, guys! Keep it up!

Don't know where you're sourcing your info from but the comparative work done (if those Type 0 reports are true) between your examples and this is huge. Not only is the amount of work required to translate Type 0 far in excess of the games you list, but things like FM 2089 had none of the script translated, just menu's and stat's (and some of those you mention seem to never have had any localisation done....eg. according to HCG101 FM2 was never considered for an English version.

The point of interest here is that if there really is a completely localised version floating around Square-Enix may suddenly become very aggressive once they learn of a planned fan translation.

Or they may start work harder on encryption of games, because fan's easily crack it.
But it is off topic, any news about translation?

As long as it's a man made encryption, there will be a man made decryption possible for it.
Beside just seeing how often SE have been reusing systems in their games, tells me that they don't really want to spend time developing new systems.

If I was SE I would rather spend my time working on the actual game than worrying about preventing fan's from cracking the game.

Square is more focused on Lightning Farron at the moment and establishing their money pump that is XIV. News on translation from Square themselves? Perish the thought child. Tabata has been the only one to share any glimpse of any hope. And he simply said it isn't happening in a round about way. They want to but can't until a opportunity presents itself.

If it makes you feel any better I appreciate it. A lot. Still irks me that GILGAMESH could have been playable. If only there was a way...

GILGAMESH.

I mean come on now

Guys I've been talking to a guy over at the Spanish forum, who claims that he can play a PSP ISO bigger than 2 GB, I've made the same tests as him with negative results but since he even uploading a video showing it... Can someone extract the game's BIGFILE (yellow.pkg, with UMDGen, for example) add zeros at the end of the file so it surpasses the 2GB filesize and put it back in the game (UMDGen again)? If we confirm it does not work, I'll upload the merging tools I have (optimized videos, etc...) otherwise I can do a non-optimized one. Regards and thanks:
