Why are there no SNES games on the 3DS VIrtual Console?

I mean the the 3DS is equally powerful as the wii. so why no SNES? they could probably release N64 games on the 3DS as well..

Any thoughts or rumours?

Maybe because of the screen resolution and the game's aspect ratio, for example, they made a port of EarthBound to the GBA and many things were changed, including music, and there was so many graphical glitches because they had to change the ratio to fit the GBA screen.

I don't know for sure, but either the 3DS is not fully capable of emulating the snes or they are waiting while sales of gameboy/nes games are still profitable. If they release snes games now, nes/gameboy sales might decrease. I think this theory might be right, because they still have to launch gba games, which we know for sure that the 3DS can handle

You can't compare the GBA screen resolution ( 240 × 160 pixels ) to the 3DS ( 800 x 240, + 320 x 240 ) !

However , SNES had several, different resolutions, depending on the game and on the screen mode ( images may be output at 256 or 512 pixels horizontal resolution and 224, 239, 448, or 478 pixels vertically).

So yeah, resolution in not an issue, and even the odd game with the odd resolution could be easily scaled to fit the screen, as for example the SnesDS is capable of scaling downs games to the 256 x 192 pixel DS screen !

I guess with time, we will get it, unless somebody finds a way to run an emulator on the 3DS, then we'll get it even sooner ;)

Well the GBA's resolution is less than that of the DS... and the 3DS's top screen is big enough in most situations, and the 3DS should certainly be able to scale.

Well they recently confirmed that they are working on WiiU specific VC that's capable of off screen play and they also removed the Japanese Wii VC page.
So they are certainly working on VC related things right now, hope it's a sign of more to come. Maybe they'll make the VC games available on both eShop's once they have the emulators and games up and running?
In any case hope they don't make people repurchase VC they already own in Wii mode.

Nintendo said Genesis games would come to the VC, they just haven't yet. VC releases on the 3DS are slow, we only recently really started to see NES games aside from those offered to Ambassadors start to show up in the VC. My answer: give it time, I'm sure the 3DS will eventually show the SNES some love. As it is, I'm pretty sure we will eventually see other GBA games aside from those offered to ambassadors appear in the VC. Afterall we know for sure the 3DS is capable of running GBA games via the VC.

You wont see Super Mario All Stars, at least not for a long while after they start (assuming they will) releasing SNES games on the 3DS. This is because Nintendo will want to make the most money it can off of the individual releases of games the NES saw that made up All Stars. As it is SMB1 and The Lost Levels are already out. And in Japan SMB3 is just about to be released, or was very recently released. From there logically, Super Mario Bros USA will be the last release. For the sake of progression, NOA might wait for Super Mario USA to make its release in Japan first, then release that of course as SMB2, and only then get around to releasing SMB3. (bah! I can't wait for number 3 to come stateside!)
