Hacking Cracked DS Lite!!

Hey what's up fatfree, thx for referring me to this forums since the bastards at Nintendo website won't let me post until I jump through their nutty 3 day admission process

Yeah I'm affected also, cracked hinge ftl! Also, I'm not sure if anyone else has this issue, but the bottom right corner of my DSL is loose/woobly. Unlike the other corners, if i presss down on it i can feel it sorta sink and depress down.

Overall I'm impressed with the DSL and I don't think any of these issues are going to make me return it right away, but I'm definitely going back to the store I purchased it to get another copy of my receipt. Nintendo has a 1 year warantee for hardware defects (omg awesome) which include dead pixels and what such. Good stuff.

I am wondering a few things, do the people who have the cracks normally use the ds at the 180 (flatscreen) or and at an angle (120)? after the it is crack does the screen able to lock in at 120 or does it goes to flatscreen straight away?

from what i see here it looks like most of them are americans....

Yea a bunch of people have discovered that they have a cracked DS once they read this topic. It seems to be bring the problem to their attention. Mine isn't cracked yet (crosses fingers) but now I've become paranoid every time I play mine I look at it to make sure.

i am not sure if its already known where those cracks come from or if someone already thought of this.

Let me explain (in my hopefully understandable english) what i think its comming from.

When you play for Example Brain Age, you have to hold your DS in another way, when you play with your right hand, like maybe 90%? (im not sure) you are holding it with your left hand and your pressing with your left thumb on exactly that point thats always broken on those pictures..

Maybe your so concentrated that you dont feel how strong your pressure is at that point while playing brain age

I have an idea of why the left hinge cracks! It's differerent than UnknownBeast's theory.

Look at this picture. If you hold the DS lite with your thumb on the hinge and the pen on the right hand, I think that makes it loose and also makes it crack.

I try to hold mine like this, my thumb on the dpad area while I'm playing a game.

It'd be interesting if there was a left handed person playing with the DS lite. If the lefty holds the DS lite on the right hinge and the pen on their left hand, then I suspect that the right hinge will crack.

I discovered my DS Lite has the same crack on the left hand side hinge. I'm left handed to so I don't think your theory works dOoBiX.

Very strange, I didn't notice it till I actually looked for it. My guess is that it is a standard defect in the way the mould is created. It applies to all DS Lites as the crack appears in exactly the same spot on every DS Lite from what I've seen.

I don't see what all the fuss is about, it's not that big of a thing, you can't even notice it and it doesn't affect your playing.

As long as my hinge doesn't fall off I don't care if there is a tiny crack

My brother told me my DS lite had a crack ages ago, just thought I didn't treat it right, (I never noticed before it though), I don't mind the crack, it helps differentiate between two DS lites.

Add me to the list of people with a cracked DS-Lite. Got one forming on the left hand side - hasn't completely gone through the entire hinge just yet.

Geez. Hans't it been like, only one month since US release? And all these cracks appeared?

My Enamel DS has no such crack and I've had it since April. Both sides of the hinge have the same lines that have been there since I opened the box. Those US Lites must've been rushed during production or something.

I wonder if Nintendo is going to improve the hinge, or will they just keep doing replacements until everyone's warranty is up.

That's going to be a crap load of refurbished DS Lites out there!
