It wasn't? I couldn't find an official list, so I went to Wikipedia and pulled up the newgrounds entry, went to the page for all the accounts listed as having created it, and multiple showed a Binding Of Isaac demo as one of their contributions.

So even if it's not by the same "team", it seems it was done by the same human beings.

EDIT: Grammar.
They both were designed by Edmund McMillen, but both games had different programmers.
He also released The Basement Collection
which is basically all of his free flash games now for $4.

So the flash feel is because of his art, but the actual coding depends on who he is working with.

Flash is very laggy and slow, even on pretty good PCs. The games are good and I liked both the Binding of Isaac and Super Meat Boy, but fast-paced games really suffer from the sluggishness of Flash. I've died so often because of input lag in Tower of Heaven and the flash version of Hexagon. I didn't have this in Super Meat Boy so I seriously doubt it was made in Flash. That, and they had to create a (far inferior) Mac port, which they wouldn't have had to do if it was made in Flash like the original Meat Boy.
Java is pretty bad too but no one cried foul about having to pay for Minecraft.

I know, trust me. My old PC would sometimes lock one of the keys when playing Minecraft and I'd have to press the locked key again to unlock it. So sometimes it kept walking forward and the only way to fix it was by pressing forward. Not nice if you're in front of a cliff/lava/enemies/whatever. Not to mention the giant occasional lagspikes and pretty horrible overall performance. I hate Java-based games just as much as Flash. The games themselves may be good but they could've been even better if they were just written in a compiled language.

See, the issue there is the difference between a browser plugin, and an entire platform. Flash is, as it's core, an interpreter for vector graphics and scripting meant to be run in a browser (even the official PC flash player programs have been touchy at best over the years).

On the other hand, Java is an entire platform that exists in many, many other places, and is much more powerful. As for other places, java has been used in cell phones for cell phone games for years, way before modern smart phones and android/iOS and such, running programs and games on those low specs in embedded environments, and Java even runs on lots of DVD players. As far further as non-gaming aspects, Java is used as the backend for a lot of servers. Gonna' run a server in flash? Fuck no, flash is a client application, it's not made for that. Hell, Android is somewhat related to Java.

did not expect this to arise from my thread

also weren't they moving binding of isaac OFF of flash?

oh, and i'm pretty sure VVVVVV is flash and that's an awesome game. we all have our own opinions in regards to things; no need to vehemently insist yours is right when there really is no right or wrong opinion. they're just opinions.

Oh boy, another flash game that costs money!
Go back to /v/, for God's sake. If you're stupid enough to think that a programming language genuinely relates to how good a game is, you're probably to stupid to be allowed to play video games.

First of all, calm down there. Second of all, I'm not referring solely to Flash itself. The game looks like a Newgrounds game, and if it's anything like Super Meat Boy and The Binding of Isaac, will play like one as well. Low quality indie games that belong on a free-to-play website should NOT be sold for money, and I'm not going to support it, or anyone who buys this crap.

Super Meat Boy had a ton of content and was a very fun game for the most part. (although some levels were just frustrating) Same for the Binding of Isaac, it's a good game with great replayability and a metric fuckton of powerups. Besides, you don't even know anything about this new game except for the art style and that it's about cats. Also the general opinion seems to be that you're wrong http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-360/super-meat-boy http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/the-binding-of-isaac

All I'm hearing from you is "I heard people on /v/ say this so it must be true!"
Binding of Isaac was one of the most entertaining and deep games of last year, and after Sonic Generations was my game of the year. Super Meat Boy I'm not as fond of, but it's still a good game.
If you seriously, seriously think that the fact a game is made in Flash, or that a game has a low-fi art style, is a genuine reason not to support it, you are not a gamer. You're an idiot.
I'm not going to calm down, because it's morons like you who hold this industry back. I bet you called out Wind Waker for having a cartoony art style back when it acme out, completely ignoring it's one of the most immersive games of all time.
Is there a way to block people on GBATemp? I don't think I can bear to read any more comments from this idiot any more.

The Binding of Isaac is a lazy, repetitive, uninspired rip-off of The Legend of Zelda, full of retarded memes and references to death, hell, etc. that people think is "deep" and edgy, when it's really not. The art style (If you can even call it a style) is lazy, and even though they can easily afford an artist that could make something outside of thick, black outlined, simple shaded 2D Flash drawings, they refuse.

And no, I enjoyed Wind Waker, because it had an actual art style, not blobby drawings with black outines and no shading. It wasn't a blatant ripoff of another game, it didn't contain a bunch of stupid shit to try to sound deeper than it was, or make manchildren who think "FOREVER ALONE" is funny laugh. It was an actual game, not a dull ripoff with no aesthetics whatsoever.

Also, why do you you keep mentioning /v/? I don't even go on 4chan. It's my opinion, stop crying over it.

It's nothing like TLoZ. Zelda is not a dungeon crawler. I don't even like dungeon crawlers.

But I agree Binding of Isaac should be free-to-play, it's not that great. Super Meat Boy however is in a different league, it's so addictive yet frustrating, it controls so well and the soundtrack is amazing.

Maybe it looks like a Newgrounds game because the team originated on Newgrounds? What about Castle Crashers? Is that game bad because it started from Newgrounds? It's a certain art style indicative of these games, it's not bad because it "looks like a Newgrounds game", it looks that way because the team originally put its work on Newgrounds and its works used a similar art style.

I really don't know how you can say they're "low quality" when they have a lot of work put into them. The levels of Super Meat Boy are very well designed and incredibly difficult, Isaac has a lot of content and attention to detail.

I theorize that we're in the "Let's hate on Team Meat/Edmund McM games because it's hipster" phase of gaming.

Sure, sure, I believe you! When you are literally repeating verbatim the 'arguments' /v/ uses against Isaac.
Binding of Isaac is a 'tribute' to the original Legend Of Zelda in terms of UI and the way all the rooms have 4 walls and doors. The actual gameplay is totally different, more of a mix of SMASH TV and roguelikes. And in terms of depth - I'm not talking about it being 110% deep and edgy, I'm talking in terms of gameplay - 100s of items that combien to make each run different, and most requiring you to master them to use them at their most effective. There are a grand total of three meme references in the entire game (5 if you include the DLC/expansion).
But ultimately, it's pointless arguing with you, isn't it? You're not going to change your opinion and will continue to only buy AAA titles that add nothing to the medium. You probably think Dishonored is only 4 hours long and XCOM is a consolised piece of trash, too!
